Does HDMI audio work in lmce 710?
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:05:59 pm »
Good Morning

I've been looking to put a Core together for a while now.  I'm finally getting serious enough to look into nitty-gritty mobo details.  I've tried the suggestion of narrowing mobo's down to desired features, NVidia chips, and supported audio/LAN chips.  I kept coming up dry against the HDMI feature.  Everytime I found a mobo I thought would work, one of two things would happen:
  1. Someone on the forums would post an unresolved "HDMI audio doesn't work" or
  2. Someone (on the forums, or in the Hardware wiki) would state: mobo works, but I didn't test HDMI audio since I don't use it.

Next, I went to the Mainboards wiki and clicked on each listed mobo, one by one.  I couldn't find one that definitively stated that audio through HDMI is a working feature with 710.  So, long story short:

Does HDMI audio work in lmce 710?

Thanks

Yes

it's a matter of the right versions of many things.
It's also a linux thing not just a linuxmce thing.
Another words get it working under Kubuntu 0710 and it should work under LMCE

I have a MSI- MEDIA LIVE that works fine with hdmi audio.

Unfortunately like most compatible 0710 HW its out of production.

Did you unmute IEC958 in alsamixer.

I actually did nothing special other than unmute IEC958.

Mine is actually set to analog input.

After a quick router reload my IEC958 gets muted..... wonder if its because i am set to analog.

OK.

New cable, new rebuild, unmuted in alsamiser and still no joy.

What am I doing wrong?

Will build with mythbuntu and windows I think if I get no joy from MCE.

Please someone help before I give up.........

Might be some audio settings in BIOS that are different to tkmedia... check those.

Hi Andrew,

You ship these PC's out with MCE on them.  I am sure I saw them on your website before it gave me a virus.  :(

What bios version do you use?
Do you use HDMI?
What are your bios settings?
Do you have an additions to MCE to make it work with the MSI Media Live?

We have not shipped the MSI Media Live for more than 9 months now I'm afraid. But when we did ship systems based on it we did have audio working over the HDMI connector.

Re the virus you mention - apologies for that if it came from our site. We did have a brief outage last week but you are the first person that has reported anything to us. Our site has been completely reinstated now and is definitely clean now.

All the best
