Looking through the wiki, I can not seem to really find anything about hdmi capture cards so I may stream our cable boxes.
Is this possible, any pointers to some docs would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

Currently there are  no hdmi capture devices.

The closest thing is the HDPVR with composite in.

I have on and will be trying to get it to work with the 0810 release.

"Trying..."
Ouch, so it doesn't work with the current release I gather.
Composite would be fine, I will post back later to see how you have made out.

In the meantime I will assume it needs to be hooked up to the tuner at the tv. It has an ethernet port, hopefully it can be controlled via a template.

Thanks!

The intention once this is working to make it pnp with its own template... Others are successfully using it with mythtv ( driver is very new)
So it will work just of matter when.

I doubt this works with IVTV, but it's worth the investigation: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

Makes for a very neat installation and unencumbered means of capturing your HD cable/HD satellite tuner. Some others are talking about this card's possibilities, but there are a number of obstacles that must be overcome first: http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/general/5271-hdmi-capture.html

One step is that ALSA now supports HDMI passthrough in Linux: http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2009/01/23/linux-gets-hdmi-sound-pass-through-support-via-alsa-and-kernel-2627-x/

Now all we need is a dependable driver for this card in Linux, stable compatibility with IVTV, and a general defeat of HDCP that governs its playback, and we're set! Hopefully we'll get a breakthrough soon...
