tschak,

Perhaps you shouldn't respond to newbie's questions.  No need to curse.

He did say he was a newbie in his first post.

And, btw, point 3 also says "With regards to cable subscribers that currently do not have a need for a box for basic analog cable; the cable companies are not required to discontinue this service, unless they wish to. In this case, you may eventually have to use a cable box supplied by your cable provider"

So, his analog service may actually continue...

I had good luck with firewire direct from my cable box.
Got all the channels except the premium channels i subscribed to and also did not get pay-per-view.

It was an easy way to go for me and didnt have to buy a tuner card.

"I had good luck with firewire direct from my cable box." What is a firewire?

Which one would give me a better picture quality? PVR150 or Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 for basic cable?

tschak909

They both use the same family of codec chip and tuners. So the quality is the same.

Dude, are you fucking dense?

read point 3, and re-read your options again. I'm getting tired of you arguing with me.

Cable companies are also killing their analogue bandwidth to make more room for the digital transmissions... THIS MEANS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE TUNER CAN, AND THAT YOU WILL NEED TO USE A CABLE BOX.

p.s. do not use the PVR-350, notice it wasn't in my list. It only provides MPEG-2 accelleration for output, and is otherwise nothing more than a slow frame buffer.

Actually it depends on what cable carrier your using. Cox In San Diego California is going to downconvert their signals for 3 years so any regular tv is fine connected directly to the wall. Try contacting your own cable company as I did to find out if they are doing this in your area.
