Diskless MD installs but no AV Wizard
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:33:08 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a Jetway J9F2-Extreme Core Duo mini itx Mainboard. Intel 945GM graphics, dual gigabit LAN. I disabled one of the NICs in the bios and successfully booted to PXE.

The media director installed (and appears on the admin site) but when the AV wizard normally appears I see the crosshairs for a second then I see some messages on the dos screen.
DCOPClient:Attach Internal. Attach failed could not open network socket.

Followed by another crosshair then:
kdeinit:Can't connect to the X server
kdeinit: Might not terminate at the end of the session
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-9258' to 'kded': ERROR communication problem with kded, it probably crashed

Also, messages about SAMBA for a split second just before the crosshairs flash on screen and it loops again. Basically it all goes wrong just as AV wizard is about to launch. Any suggestions? BIOS settings? Could it be an unrecognized NIC (despite booting and installing?)

Further info:
MD is 64bit
Core is 32bit
Just successfully added a dell laptop as a diskless MD with no problems.
NIC is REALTEK RTL8111B 10 / 100 / 1000 PCI-E LAN

First I'd like to suggest to leave it on for a while untill all activity seems to have stopped.  Easiest is to just walk away go do something else and check back in an hour or so.

If after a while the system has gone quiet and the screen is still not working, I'm afraid you're going to have to do some manual setup.

Cheers Zaerc,

It's running now and I'm leaving it alone. Mainly one message looping now:
lmce_launch_manager: cannot connect to X server :0

About 200 times so far. Will leave it alone and report back.

Also:
CIFS VFS: cifs mount failed w/return code = -13

OK. Nothing else is happening. Just the same message.

Any suggestions for a manual setup?

Unfortunately I don't have one of those chipsets so I can't tell you what exactly needs to be done.  But it's likely that you will have to modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and maybe even download and install the latest intel drivers.  Maybe somebody using these chipsets can give you some more specific pointers.

See http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers for some (general) instructions on editing the xorg.conf file.  I guess the intel-specific section should be expanded a bit, as that seems somewhat inacurate considering your experience.

The easiest/quickest way to get going right now, would probably be to set the driver to "vesa" and use UI1 for the time being until you have everything setup.

Thanks Zaerc,

Will start experimenting. If I can get it working I will update the wiki.
