I tend to agree with you... but you can see the logic here for the onboard  market;

AMD -> ATI
Intel -> Intel

So for nVidia & Via there were no real options... and i guess that goes especially for nVidia actually. Becuase even though they have possibly the strongest graphics chipset brand & technology they have no processor or other system builder chipsets... Via have those chipsets. Bringing nVidia graphics together with Via's system builder chipsets has a lot going for it...

Very interesting indeed. 

Unfortunately I've had some expenses come up recently (finishing my basement, and a car thats been in the shop for almost 4 years undergoing reststification is finally done with a big bill).  This means my plans to roll out MDs throughout the house are now put on hold, but perhaps with some of these new announcements I'll have some great choices when I'm ready to continue this project.

No match for Intel.

Strictly business speaking here, they have SFF boards out @ $69 that pack a nice punch.

Then add another generation and they'll add more features and keep the price inline or cheaper.

Intel can have price wars with AMD, Nvidia and VIA all going at the same time and still have enough money for R&D and profits. Which can't be said for the others. These competitors will have to come down to the largest determining factor for OEM's, price. Until, they get the price right, they wont have a chance. This is great for Intel. Now NVidia, has to fight 2 battles just like AMD, 1 vs. ATI and now 1. vs. AMD/Intel.

Long Intel. You don't want to wake the sleeping Giant (even though he's really not sleepeing).

Given the review I can't see this being a long term collaboration, unless of course VIA are aiming to drop their development of Video chipsets.  Although nvidia have a good enough product and brand and they may benefit from cheaper production costs by teaming up with VIA.
