Blank Screen on Install DVD
« on: March 22, 2008, 01:07:02 am »
Hello all, I have searched the forums and found out there are some problems with blank screen after I have not got that far. I am trying to install the OS. I do get the screen that says KUBUNTU where I can install, Memtest, or Boot from HD. After I select Install the screen goes blank and I do not see anything again. I am running MSI M2N32-SLI Deluxe, 5600+, 4 Gigs mem, 8600 GTS 640 MB single video card. any help would be great. Cheers

I seem to have gotten a little further. I downloaded the I386 DVD and I have installed linuxMCE. When it restarts it goes to a blank screen. I did read the sticky about this but I am still not able to get anything. I can switch to another tty and log in. I have replaced the xorg.conf file. Still not working. Any help would be great.

We never use 8600 cards so I can't help other than to say that I am pretty sure that the card is getting mis configured by the AVwizard. There are several other threads here that discuss this type of problem - take a look at some of those for more details.

But unless fighting your 8600 card into submission is what motivates you i would suggest getting yourself a nVidia 6200 card as they just work - I use one in my home Core;

Here's a snippet of output from lspci on my Core;

Code: [Select]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)] (rev a1)
All the best
