Doesn't install as shown on the YouTube video
« on: February 17, 2008, 09:41:54 pm »
I havn't seen anyone with this problem. I downloaded the QuickInstallDVD and burned it to a DVD. I installed Kubuntu but I didn't get an option to install the MCE as shown in the instruktion movie on Youtube. It only installed Kubuntu OS.

I'm starting to beleive it has something to do with the DVD+RW I used. Or could it be that the DVD-drive is set as slave. It sounds stupid but I can't think of anything else.

The Quickinstall DVD's are are bootable... you should not install Kubuntu on your drive first. Just put the LinuxMCE DVD into your drive and let it boot... beware the LinuxMCE DVD's will wipe the WHOLE drive that you point them at... you will loose any data on that WHOLE drive if you choose it in the first screen of the LinuxMCE DVD install process.

Enjoy!

I did boot just like yoy described from the start. I had read the installation guides available. It still didn't install LinuxMCE as shown in the video on Youtube. Any other suggestions.

I can only conclude that you downloaded the KUbuntu installer and not the LinuxMCE install dvd.

I think Venom986 is right! The DVD actually doesn't install Kubuntu or LMCE at all. It blows a ready made, pre-built image onto your PC. Sounds like a subtlety, but the difference is, you won't see any of the normal Linux installation steps, it just unpacks the image in text mode and starts into it so that LMCE can set itself up. It really is all or nothing, if it failed then you wouldn't even get Kubuntu, they are inseparable in that sense. Whereas, if you installed from the CD(s), you would get exactly what you are describing - the first stage is a simple Kubuntu installation, then you have to put the second and third CDs in to get the LMCE part.

I think you have downloaded the CD version by accident....

I concur 100% with the previous 2 analysis.

Might I suggest using bittorrent to download the DVD installer and use the link to the official torrents located here.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Mirrors

If you need a bittorrent client, I suggest uTorrent, for it leaves a small footprint and does not require a genius to operate.
http://www.utorrent.com/

This is the same identical method(except I have a torrentflux box and not uTorrent) and location I downloaded my DVD installer.  I have used this same image accross 7 different computers, more then 50 plus installations, and have not seen the behavior you mention.
