Network booting & Wireless Pluto
« on: October 04, 2005, 11:40:30 am »
Bit of a two part question here:

1) Pretty sure this is right, but can't find it written down anywhere right now, so I'm just gonna ask. Am I right in saying that by setting the media centres to network boot, it is possible for the core to boot up AND shut down the media centre remotely?

Also, how long does it typically take a media centre to boot?

2)I've just been looking into the idea of using a wireless network to run Pluto. I've read that the connection is not stable enough to send video over, but would it be ok for audio?

Also, am I right in saying by running wirelessly I would lose the core's ability to boot up and shut down each media centre?

Thanks for the help

Wireless booting media directors will not remove any of the functionality, however you may find the nfs mounts cause you problems due to the unstable nature of wireless.

I have tried this setup myself and after much frustration reverted to a wired solution.

NOS.

Hi,

The core is using WOL to boot up the media directors, and yes, it suppose to shut down them too.
Booting process is about 2 minutes, but i guess that depends on your hardware.
About wireless setup i can't say much since we didn't try it here.
We use wireless only for tablets.
