Input/Output error reading error

I have tried ripping several DVD's but get the same error, Input/Output error or reading error.  Can someone help me find a what I have or am doing wrong.  I have tried two different DVD-Roms & a hard drive.  Could This be a CSS encryption error?  I did install the software.
