Setup Issues
« on: September 29, 2007, 11:49:54 am »
I allready have a windows network setup and running, with a file server etc... already setup. I have the windows network on the external network, but im having real trouble getting LinuxMCE to connect to my fileserver.

ive tried setting up the file server through the web admin but it wont pick it up and let me browse it.

ive also tried synbolic linking but i cant create the link

is there anyway of doing it?

also is it possible for me to just turn off DHCP and hook the internal network upto the same switch as the external?

A simple diagram of how your current network is connected together might help to understand what you have and how it is currently configured.

Re DHCP... the LMCE Core/Hybrid has to be the DHCP server for the LAN that your lmce devices are connected to - this is central to how lmce works. I can't see any reason not to intermix your Windows Network with the LMCE one - thats how ours always are configured. Just let lmce be the DHCP server (turn of DHCP in whatever device you currently have providing that service) and make sure that your Windows machines ate in the same work group as lmce and your there.

Post a simple diagram of your current setup here and I am sure you'll get plenty of willing helpers respond :-)
