tearing in mythtv 0.26 on 12.04
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:16:46 am »
I notice a bit o tearing in mythtv on 0.26. I watched a movie yesterday where I did not notice it at all. Anybody experienced the same and maybe has a solution. I saw on the wiki of mythtv that disabling composite in xorg.conf might solve it. Does this influence other behavior of lmce? I have a nvidia geforce GT520.

We do not have mythtv 0.26 in LinuxMCE.  The latest version is 0.25.

I don't think my question regarding composite was version related but it might of course be caused by the mythtv version... ;-).

0.25 missing stuff, with that version I had no way to get a working setup.

0.27 was working but very unstable.

so 0.26 seems to be the best choice. just have to get rid of the tearing.

I gave 0.27 another try and apparently something else changed because now it is running fine.

Also the tearing seems to be gone.

So, do you have MythTV 0.27 from mythbuntu working in LMCE?  Can you create a feature request ticket and detail *very specifically* what you have done to integrate 0.27?

I ended up adding to  /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code: [Select]
Section "Extensions"
       Option "Composite" "Disable"
   EndSection

seems to do the trick and stop the tearing.

Happily running Mythtv 0.28 using http://trac.linuxmce.org/trac/ticket/2136

So, would one need to do that for each MD or just on the core?

I am interested in learning more about how you are using MythTV with LMCE. I use Myth (standard .25 in 12.04) just as a backend to record TV shows from my HDHR prime with cable card. Since I'm only subscribed to broadcast channels which are coded copy freely the Cable Card setup works well. Only real problem is that the thumbnails no longer show in the orbiters.

Are you using LMCE as a front end or MythTV?

Display is takin care on each individual PC, so yes, the xorg.conf change has to be done on each PC.
