Is it worth unlocking a core?
« on: February 25, 2011, 11:33:10 pm »
Hi all,

Just setting up my core again with a new motherboard and was wondering if any here unlock there cores?

I have a 2.7GHz Sempron 140. I believe this is powerful enough to run the core (dedicated core only)
Is it better to keep the low power and better stability (is that correct?) or to get more processing power?
I don't think the core needs that much processing power is that right?

Thanks Josh

if your core is down, the whole system won't work, including all homeautomation stuff...could be a real disaster so always go the stability-route!
Low power is a good thing as well for a 24/7 system.

That is correct, you really don't need that much oomph, and as _if_ says, stability is more important.

I bought the cheapest dual core going for my Core, and it never breaks a sweat; probably should have gone single core and saved myself a few quid. I've only 2 gigs of RAM as well, will upgrade to 4 if I get any spare, but I'm in no rush, everything runs fine.

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks guys,

I thought that one core would be fine. Just wanted to check.
