Multi Touch orbiter ideas
« on: January 22, 2011, 05:42:40 pm »
I've been playing with the idea of making a multi touch coffee table (see http://nuigroup.com/forums/) recently and ideas of how to integrate it and use it with linuxmce have been buzzing around my head, then I stumbled upon this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tio5OvIqToc
A lot of cool stuff, particularly flicking media towards to the TV to play or display it.
With the recent explosion in popularity of tablet pcs it could be a good addition to LinuxMCE.

I'm willing to input however I can only programming i know is a bet of web stuff, but i taught myself that and I'm always looking for projects, if someone pointed me in the right direction I could start teaching myself what I need.

Awesome. :)

To get right to the point, the best thing you can do, is to build a working model of what you're envisioning..and to show it off.. get input (show off both the code and the finished product) so that those of us with ideas can also pitch in.

As I said I'm at a total beginner level when it comes to coding, but I've been a user of LinuxMCE for sometime and would love to be able to give back and contribute.

I was thinking of using something like this
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/titanium_10_launches_build_native_apps_for_desktop_mobile_ipad.php

to build a proof of concept which will basically be a cover flow style app flicking through either movies or albums viewing cover image and title and a flick of the top of the screen to play on the TV.

Again total beginner so I'll scour the wiki for how to access the media tags I need in pluto_media
and I've played around with implementing dce commands so I'll need to work out how to launch specific media files using them.

I'm probably over simplifying massively and my ambition likely out ways my skill but hey you gotta start learning somewhere

any pointers in the wright direction wouldn’t go amiss
