cvpn-hd04 media player as md or thin client
« on: July 18, 2010, 12:33:19 am »
hello, I'm new to linuxMCE, and I'm in the planning stage of building a core. I have all the parts and components priced and researched. A few months ago bought a network hd media player hdd enclosure. the model name is cvpn-hd04. any searches on the model name will give you results for shopping and purchasing the player, but I do know that it has the Realtek 1073 chipset. my question is can this device be used as a MD. if so how could it be done. this device displays in 1080p, has hdmi, component, and composite output. optical and coaxial sound output. 2 usb ports, and 1 usb(pc) port, and a Ethernet rj45 to boot.it also comes with a remote. it can accept up to a 2tb sata hard drive. plus shipping this device cost about $100.00 us. I included some pics of the player and the board. here are the specs i could find on this board.(400mhz, 128MByte DDR2 RAM, 256MByte NAND flash ROM)http://218.210.127.131/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=9&PFid=26&Level=3&Conn=2&ProdID=238. ]. this player has very good play back over the network, would be nice to have this as a MD or thin client in the bedroom or kids room, it's cheap and has good functionality. I don't know if anyone has one of these or something like it, but if it can be done I will gladly test it on my device.

I've got the Sumvision Enclosure MKV, which runs the same/similar chipset and was thinking the exact same thing. It would make a great little MD, but chances are it won't be compatible. If anybody has any experience with these I'd be glad to know how you got on.

As this is my first post, Hello all. ;D

Neither of these machines are going to be able to be configured as a MD. However they could be used as uPnP renderers and possibly controlled for play/pause/fwd/rew etc etc by an Orbiter.

All the best
