Thanks Zarec
A Linux novice but I just updated my core & MD last night and then got the problem of access denied so I followed your advice and it worked........thanks for the tip not sure why it is still happening 120 days later than this original post may be because I am using an old image I made back in Feb 2010, but still I just updated it last night.....any thoughts

Hey M
Grab a copy of something like Acronis or Norton Ghost and make a bootable DVD then boot of it and plug in a USB stick or USB HDD and make a backup of the whole HDD this is assuming you have a seperate HDD's for LinuxMCE and your data and it will do all the partitions etc when you do the restore to your LinuxMCE HDD, I have a separate 80Gb HDD for the core and then my software RAID.

If I stuff my system I can go downstairs plug in the HDD and boot off the DVD (I use Acronis) am I am back up and running in 6 mins saves so much stuffing around, the advantage is when I finally get a working image then I will just make another backup image and name it accordingly.............no downloading just nice and easy, you would only need to do updates & upgrades.

The only one thing I am not sure of is if there would be an issue with dist-upgrades as I have not done one since my original image I made in Feb last year but it sure makes it easy to recover if you stuff things like I have on a few occasions trying to test new ideas........this way it keeps the wife & 3 yr old happy

No problems,
The Ultra Iso works great along as long as your m/b supports USB boot, I fell for the trap of just copying the iso to the stick drive without fisrt making it a Linx USB++ boot drive, then I copied the iso to it.

Hope you find it useful, and I got the sources list from Kezza and it always seems to work, if you here of a working snapshot please let me know.............hope you get yours up and running. Next month when my limit rolls over again I might try one of the latest snapshots and by then the Gyration and RAID issue may of been fixed and I wish there was someway of adding the Foxconn fixes into the snapshots rather then having to do all the work each time to get the Atheros NIC to be recognised

I don't what's worse a slow or capped internet, here in Australia they are currently rolling out fibre to all homes but you can bet we will pay for the privilege of it and pay through the nose for downloads and uploads.....................it sucks

Hi MDH,
I share your pain I recently downloaded 23618 and spent days getting the core to recognise the RAID and also getting the Foxconn 330 to do a PXE boot with help from a lot of people, then only to find out the Gyration remote device template is screwy then suddenly the other day the database got corrupeted whilst searching for a movie to watch so I had to go back to my original image that I created in Feb last year and it's all running fine again.

As I am on a limited plan with my ISP I will have to wait until I here there is a reliable snapshot.

I am curious about this step -- svn co http://svn.linuxmce.org/svn/branches/LinuxMCE-0810/src/new-installer as I always just download the snapshot and use Ultra Iso to put it on to a Linux formatted USB stick drive saves on blank DVD's and the whole process is a lot faster.

I then do the following
 1. Boot off the USB stick and install Kubuntu
 2. Update the sources.list as per the attached
 3. apt-get update, upgrade and then finally a dist-upgrade
 4. Reboot
 5. Click on the LinuxMCE on the desktop and go get a coffee
 6. Do the Diskless Create

Should I be doing the new installer step as per your post

Installation issues / Re: Gyration Remote keys all wacky

Beeker, if your system is working normally a new snapshot install i really not necessary, just do a apt-get update, upgrade for the latest packages.

Also maybe do an sqlcvs update as it's possibile somebody already fixed/or made changes to the template.

You can then also try to remove the gyration from webadmin and have it redetected.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the tips......I tried the update and upgrade though I haven't tried the sqlcvs so I will give that ago and see what happens.........I did remove it and it found the correct device again but the commands were still all screwed up.

I with you don't really want to go through all that again as I now have the Foxconn working as a md and got the RAID back so it's really only the remote to fix

Cheers

Thanks
I am reluctant to scrap this snapshot as nearly all working now apart this........lost count of the reboots. In the end I might have to oh well another couple of long nights coming and 3.5gb off the isp quota..............

Installation issues / Gyration Remote keys all wacky
« on: January 26, 2011, 03:32:09 am »
Thought it was worth starting a fresh post is anybody expericing or have a solution to the issue with the current snapshots screwing up the Gyration remote, just about all the keys don't work anymore.

I have modified xorg.conf with adding the following as suggested by tkmedia and TSCHAKeee2 but still no luck

          Section "ServerFlags"
      Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
      EndSection

For me it was just the RAID that was not recognised so a small
fix in rc.local fixed that my bigger problem is now after creating my
md upstairs the Gyration remote button layout has lost it marbles
and as you say buttons do things that there not meant to etc

Hope someone knows why and also how to fix this issue

Took the plunge and rebooted the core and Ted's suggestion worked and now I can see the RAID

Thanks heaps Ted.....nice work
