Users / Re: No sound through HDMI on Asus AT3N7A-I
« on: June 03, 2010, 10:56:28 am »
Thanks. I figured it out yesterday when I was fiddling about with the settings. I had to set the font to 4pt before I could read the whole list of connections in KMix (not all the outputs were listed in the mixer), for some reason text is huge on the desktop.

Any idea why sound is muted initially?

I've tried the guide on the wiki but everything is up to date. I even used asoundconf list to find out what sound cards were being used and all I got was "NVidia", which is technically any of the 4 output methods available on this board. aplay -l told me I had analogue, digital and HDMI but so far I've heard nothing come from this board.

I really need help.

P.S. Is there any way to change the output without running the avwizard again?

Same problem here with RAID 5. I eventually gave up and just used them seperately.

I updated MCE this morning with apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and now when I go into webadmin I can't get the "rebuild image" button on the media director page to work. Usually it goes to another shell style page and does some stuff but nothing happes for me.

I told it to allow unsigned apps. Still nothing.

The problem was the sources.list file being outdated. I downloaded the latest DVD install at the time and the updates have been fine. I'd probably have been ok just updating the sources.list file manually but I'm still learning the intricacies of linux so I didn't want to break anything.

P.S. The DVD was on my desktop in 12 minutes so i'm not too bothered if it needs downloading again.

I had the same problem with my N96. I gave the phone as many permissions for installing programs as I could find on the phone (including the guide which pointed to things which weren't there) but even after I installed it I got the same error message.

Furthermore, when I MCE discovered my phone and I set my phone to be a Symbian phone, the application would be sent to my phone fine but then my phone would delete it instantly. I tried several times but the only way to get it on my phone was to copy it across using the cable. But like I say, once installed I couldn't use it.

Users / Re: Asus AT3N7A-I NVidia Drivers
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:52:25 am »
Yeah it was rebuilding the image when I noticed the older drivers. When if finished and rebooted the drivers were fine. Still no HDMI audio though. And I've checked tha ALSA drivers and they're up to date, or as up to date as they need to be for this board to play through the HDMI. I'm back at college today so I'm gonna update the packages then if there's anything new I'll rebuild the image.

Should the Asus AT3N7A-I motherboard be using version 173.14.12 for the NVidia drivers? I'm having trouble gettin audio output via HDMI and I think this may be the problem, though I am a Linux noob (see previous posts) so it may not.

I know the core has 195.36.15 installed so I don't know why my MD (It's a netbooting think client btw) would use an older version.

Done. Should I post one about the flash drives and software RAID?

The drives are FAT32. I've never seen them appear as internal drives in 810, and I'm not sure why.

The thin client is working now, the architecture was set to amd64 instead of i386.

Here's my new list of problems:

1 - Software RAID doesn't work. Using the admin page I get as far as telling it to create the array and I get the "degraded, rebuilding" message, then when I leave the page it says it's failed. I've tried with all the drives formatted to ext2, all the drives bare and ticking the spare disk box for each disk. I've also tried creating a RAID 5 array using the command line (mdadm) and it just tells me "error opening /dev/md0: No such device or address"

2 - Flash drives do not appear in the manage drives section of the orbiters. I can navigate them with Dolphin and copy files into the public folder but they won't appear in MCE and as such won't show their files in the video/audio/picture browser.

3 - I have 2 DVD drives in the manage drives section, despite only having 1 drive. I put in a disc and both drives showed the album was in it.

4 - Videos are jumpy. It worked fine in 710 but now is jumpy as hell. My copmuter has 2 Radeon HD4850s so this should not be a problem (P.S. Even in 710 I couldn't get transparency to work).

5 - My thin client won't netboot. It gets so far through the boot process (the last line I see is after the attempt to connect to the yp server or something, but there are a few lines after that), then shuts down i.e. the Kubuntu splash comes back up and it does a proper shutdown, not just dying and starting again.

I can't remember if there are more but any help I can get with any of these problems are extremely welcome, this is part of a college project and I'd rather have my server workin than write a report on why it failed.

Cheers,

Installation issues / Re: apt-get update -> "Hash Sum mismatch"

Is there any way to update the sources.list file instead of downloading the DVD and reinstalling Kubuntu again?

I downloaded the 8.10 DVD version. Everything works fine until I try apt-get update. Everything downloads fine except for Packages.bz2, which fails due to a hash sum mismatch. I'm starting to think it's this file that fails to download that's screwing up the rest of the LinuxMCE install.

EDIT: It's an older version of 8.10, I just assumed that the update would bring me up to the latest version. I'll download the latest DVD and try again (at college so it's going at 3.8MB/s, yay!).

Yes, hence the icon on the desktop.

EDIT: Can I install LinuxMCE on top of Kubuntu 10.4? Maybe if I use a moer up to date vesion of Kubuntu I can get everything to download properly before installation.
