I continue to have this problem. I timed it and it happens exactly at 15 minutes. I have noticed that it doesn't happen all of the time so purps explanation may be the issue. I haven't gotten around to checking my bios yet to see if it is an issue as well.

Thanks.

I created the file, did an update, and then rebooted but mythtv still did not start up.
I then tried an update again but nothing needed to be updated.
I then installed mythtv since apparently it was not installed and rebooted but mythtv still did not start up.
While looking through the available packages I noticed pluto-myth-player was not installed so I installed it and rebooted and finally mythtv started up fine and appears to be working as expected.

It should be noted that I'm running a hybrid-core with no MD currently.

It seems very strange that an update would delete a critical component like this.

I installed the latest 810 beta updates and my MythTV vanished!  Apparently it was removed. Is there something I need to do to get it back or do I just need to wait patiently for a future update to restore it?

Thanks, Tom

Users / Re: How does one play a playlist?
« on: January 20, 2010, 01:45:32 pm »
I examined Wizard => Scenarios => Media Scenarios and everything was already checked. I selected Playlists from that page and then pressed the Test button on the following page and sure enough the Playlists showed up on my TV.

I then selected the Sort scenarios button on the Wizard => scenarios => Media Scenarios page and changed the position of the Playlists entry. I then regenerated the orbiter and checked to see if it was available from the UI.  The interesting thing was that there was no Playlists entry but the blank entry had moved. So I selected the blank entry and sure enough it was the Playlists!

So now the question is why isn't the Playlists entry getting its name displayed on the UI?

Thanks for your help.

It obviously sucks to be me because there is no playlist menu entry to be found. I also created a playlist from the UI as well hoping that it would show up but it didn't although it's available from the admin site.

I created a playlist from from the admin site to contain a few songs but I'm clueless as to how one gets the list to play.  I figured that there would be something under the Audio section of the UI but I have been unable to find anything and searching hasn't turned up directions either.

I'm running the 810 beta.

I have a bunch of complaints about the user friendliness of the system but since I didn't use the previous released system I don't know if they are related to 810 not being complete or if LinuxMCE just isn't very user friendly.  An example would be adding several Genres to a movie. They have to be specified one at a time instead of being able to select them all at once. So I had to scroll down the screen to get to the add capability, select Genre, scroll back down the screen so that one can be selected and added. Repeat for each Genre that had to be added.

Thanks, Tom

I'd like to know as well because not having any mute on/off feedback is very frustrating when trying to figure out sound problems.  If the capability is not present then I would suggest that it be added to provide the user some feedback as to the current state. Just showing the current state for a second or two whenever it is changed would be satisfactory.

I decided to reboot my system and test it one more time and now it appears to be behaving correctly. Previously, I had selected the "Update" button from the Orbiters page and then did a "Full Regen All".  I had also set "Seconds before power off" to zero as well after setting "Seconds before screen saver" to zero did not help. Neither setting appeared to address the issue until I rebooted.

Just for the record I am running a hybrid with:
  • GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
  • AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor Model HDZ720WFGIBOX
  • MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

No, it did not fix the problem.

I never timed it so it could just as well be 10 minutes.  Thanks for the recommendation. I went ahead and set "Seconds before screen saver" to zero. Hopefully that will address the issue.

Thanks again, Tom

I running 8.10 beta2 and the screen goes blank about every 15 minutes when playing back recorded shows (either from myth or ripped DVDs). Is there a way to disable this "feature?"

Users / Re: How to specify 1080i from Resulutions Settings Screen?
« on: December 12, 2009, 08:06:42 pm »
Thanks for the responses.

My TV is a Samsung Tantus which is 4x3.  I spent several hours trying the steps noted on the Custom Display Resolutions page but I could only get the 1080 setting to not give me a blank screen. Normally that would be great but unfortunately the colors were so distorted that it wasn't usable.  So I went back to the built-in 480p setting which looks fine from the LinuxMCE display but is challenging from the KDE since 480p is for 16x9 displays.

Ultimately, the Samsung is being used because that is what I currently have but I plan to get an LCD for the system at some point so this issue will go away for me.

I'm run 810beta2 from DVD and I have decided to try hooking things up to my TV and Amp.  My TV supports 480p and 1080i. I can get 480p to work fine but I can't find any setting for 1080i just 1080p.  I tried using '9' during startup and that got me to the AV screen but from there I could not find the 1080i setting.

Does it exist?

Thanks, Tom

I'm running 8.10 beta2 and installed it via DVD. Pressing 3 and then selecting VGA2 worked just fine but was inconsistent with the web page.  I opened the Nvidia X Server Settings tool and it shows that Nvidia driver is installed and functioning fine.

I'm using the following video card which is a newer than recommended but seems to be working fine. The OpenGL with alpha blending GUI looks great! I'm waiting for some cables to arrive so I can attach my TV to the system. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will go smoothly.

MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

Having only tried using LinuxMCE for the last 2 weeks, beta2 was a huge improvement over the first beta. I never actually got the first beta to do anything useful since video was a mess and there was no audio.  I have installed beta 2 a couple of times now from scratch just to make sure I was getting things set up correctly. MythTV is not being set up correctly. I spent a couple of hours this morning and I was finally able to get it working but I was hoping it just would work without any command line effort. It appears that kdesu doesn't exist.  I made a link to kdesudo for it and ran mythtv-setup to get things setup.  I'll probably reinstall from scratch and add the link before kicking off the linuxMCE install and see if everything just works.
