Try creating the folder
mkdir -p /opt/libxine/share/xine/libxine1/fonts

Drop the fonts in, then edit /etc/pluto/xine.conf adding the following (assuming it does not already exist) and give it a try.

subtitles.separate.font:<name of the installed font>

subtitles.separate.src_encoding:<the correct encoding>

I am not sure this will work, but lets start there. I am going over the source looking for a better clue.

Installation issues / Re: Videosettings initial setup screen
« on: December 27, 2013, 05:10:07 pm »
Hi,
No, no, no, no.....
I guess that all my hardware is as old as Methusalah, and i can install every OS on it except 64 bit, W7,8 Server2008 and greater. So it must be that.
It looks like i have an unknown videocard... Why don't you guys make a little tool, that i can install on a simple USB stick, boot from it, and a program on that stick tells exactly what hardware i have, thus asking me to update that info to you guys, and implement it in your MCE...  (wishfull thinking)
It would be more efficient in the proces of even bother to start this endevour, before i start agression mode 5, smashing with things, cursing, (and even at you guys). This is not intended to do so. I really like the software, i really like the possibilities, and i really, really, really want to see this to work.
By the time i'm an old dude, it could be happening.  8)
So, i stop changing video, and start to change the dhcp server, which i find tremendoes disturbingly not asking if i want it on my network, all ipad and wireless devices can't connect to the internet after installing this MCE, i think it must be my old hardware..... :-\
And when i tried to change from dynamic (dhcp) to static ip for the fifth time..... i gave up. Powercord out of the machine, networkcable loose, writing annoyance in this forum, and i'm going to relax with a cup of thea, playing a game.

I can not tell if i am in the neighbourhood these coming days, but if anyone has an idea.... glad to hear from you...
Thanks  ;)

A

The card should be supported.
What version LMCE are you attempting to install?
What is the output of lspci -nn | grep VGA
I am guessing its pciid is in the 014X range.

You might try either vga2 or running at 60hz. Almost everything wants 60. My guess is something simple like this.

Don't much care if you don't like the way networking has to work. It is an appliance. It must serve everything the way it wants to so it can control/use/be controlled by everything. Do not fight the network, or nothing will ever work right.

My recommendation, as in what works for me...

plug internet connection directly into nic 1, doesn't matter which, unplug nic 2 from anything.
Install either from snapshot or the long way.
Do not plug in network until past house setup (and all software installs) in setup wizard... so just sit there at MD setup and let the little dialog box tell you when installing new software is done.

I forgot... before my time away becoming l3mce the White... it was decided that automagic kernel upgrading would not happen. This and some other hardware requires the backported natty kernel.

For those with this hardware, or other newer nvidia stuff running 1004, where nothing appears in aplay -l  the following is required.
sudo -i on the core and ssh moonXX where XX is the moon number if this is an MD.
Code: [Select]
apt-get install -yf linux-image-generic-lts-backport-natty linux-headers-generic-lts-backport-natty
chmod +r /vmlinuz

If there is an issue then you might apt-get install --reinstall -yf alsa-base alsa-utils and remove the old kernel with apt-get remove. I am not providing that specifically because it would depend on what version your kernel is, which can change.

I will punch you both in the dick.

In other news I have a new scheme, and that might fix it.

Out of curiosity... I need speakertests.
speaker-test -c2 -l1 -t sine -D plughw:0,3
and then replace the last with 0,7

Tell me if either fire. For shits and giggles try 0 on its own... this presumes your gt is card 0.
aplay -l (as root) to determine.

Also tell me what version you are on
cat /etc/asound/version

Hello ladies.

I am back and done fixeded it. Turns out that my entire routine for audio was pissing off Xine_StreamFactory, which is looking for hard coded values, which I expanded to handle a lot more HW by assigning a device number. I then also reorganized the whole scheme so it wasn't finding anything it was hard wired to receive. Shockingly this was the only side effect of not looking where I was going or came from.

Bumbling through code is fun, but unwise. Good idea to grep source for everything you are toying with.

It is fixed in 1204. Will backport and pos will cook a package in a day or so. Will just need to update pluto-boot-scripts and it won't plague you further. Sorry for the trouble.

Big ups to phenigma for finding the prob.

Installation issues / Re: No HDMI video out
« on: September 27, 2013, 05:25:15 pm »
@Crumble, thanks for the direction.

I tried different combinations of the tv and monitor being plugged in and out a different times. It turns out that during boot mce does detect the TV via HDMI but it will revert to any other connector that is plugged in including the svid connector for composite out.

If i now have only the HDMI plugged in then the TV comes on as the main display.

The only issue now is the screen is offset to the right and need expanding vertically. The controls in advanced under mce will not move or expand the screen to the position i require.

I am guessing there is a setting in a .conf file somewhere that i can change the offset settings in.

Regards
max232

Hi max... sorry I have been busy.

1. Correct... HDMI takes lowest priority, so you really just want it connected. I at one point made it push signal over everything... but there was some flaky side-effects.
2. You almost certainly have a chunky xorg.conf due to the confusion of monitor outs. Unless you are using a laptop with an unusual screen dimension, it should not be offset or ill sized. mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.back  and reboot (without other displays plugged in) and it should dump you at AVWiz, and should be able to size correctly.
3. A converter is likely to cause more harm than good. They almost ALWAYS screw up the EDID data.

It should have installed the natty kernel on its own... very strange.

Again... during install, are we sure this thing had internet DURING the install?

It does... at least it tries to unmute everything. Do me a favor... go mute it in alsamixer. Run this as root and see if it unmutes it. I would look at any output.

Code: [Select]
aplay -l | grep card | awk '{print $2}' | uniq | sed 's/://g' | while read CardNumber; do amixer -c "$CardNumber" | grep '\[off\]' -B5 | grep "Simple" | sed 's/Simple mixer control //g' | grep -vi capture | while read MuteStatus; do amixer -c "$CardNumber" sset "$MuteStatus" unmute; done; amixer -c "$CardNumber" | grep '\[.*\%\]' -B5 | grep "Simple" | sed 's/Simple mixer control //g' | grep -vi capture | while read VolLevel; do amixer -c "$CardNumber" sset "$VolLevel" 80%; done; done

The only people I can think of for whom this is not awesomesauce, are you weirdos running Mac etc, where the PCIIDs are not part of any docs from nVidia concerning linux compatibility (sorry Ocho) so you will need to add your pciids to the template it creates. I would expect whatever it is will be a rev C. Check similar numbers.

I have changed the way the nvidia installer works.

Primarily this is because I have bevome very tired of keeping up with new cards, and figured out a solution. I now create a template file, which can be updated just by changing the url of their readme file for their new drivers.

So... for instance their current stable driver readme is here
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/319.49/README/index.html
There, under:
Code: [Select]
II. Appendices
    A. Supported NVIDIA GPU Products
Will take you here:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/319.49/README/supportedchips.html

Generally you can just replace /319.49/ with whatever is current. This brings down all the new cards and VDPAU revisions and creates the file "/usr/pluto/templates/nvtemplate" via a script I named nvidia-template.sh
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash

# The DrvrUrl can be updated to the current evo. I find this url by going to nvidia.com
# selecting the newest card series manually, then choosing the latest driver, and selecting readme.
# The appendix shows the Supported Chipsets url... to be entered here. This will bring in new IDs.

DrvrUrl="http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/319.49/README/supportedchips.html"
UrlLoc="/tmp/supportedchips.html"

leg304="legacy_304.xx"
leg173="legacy_173.14.xx"
leg96="legacy_96.43.xx"
leg71="legacy_71.86.xx"

wget -P /tmp/ "$DrvrUrl"

RevA=$(grep '<td>A.*</td>' -B1 "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")

RevE=$(grep '<td>E.*</td>' -B1 "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")

PidsCur=$(sed -e "1,/$leg304/p" "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")

Pids173=$(sed -n "/$leg173/,/$leg96/p" "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")
Pids96=$(sed -n "/$leg96/,/$leg71/p" "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")
Pids71=$(sed -e "1,/$leg71/d" "$UrlLoc" | grep -o "0x...." | sed 's/0x//g' | sort -u | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] | tr "\n" " ")

cat > /usr/pluto/templates/nvtemplate <<EOF
#!/bin/bash

##################################################################################################
# Driver PCIIDs. Currently 304 is as high as we go so driver current and 304 will work the same. #

So... nvidia-install.sh is much smaller now... and creates a template file if it does not exist.
