Installation issues / Re: Can't access web admin
« on: January 30, 2010, 09:16:28 pm »
Can you access from linuxmce itself? What about the internal network 192.168.80.***? That will be from your 2nd nic. I cannot remember if web-admin works on outside network from default but in web-admin wizard (one of the menu's I'm not at home so cannot check) is outside access link try ticking box for port 80 and try again.

Have a hunt on wiki for more info and security issues of doing this.

Developers / Re: Workshop: Datagrids
« on: January 30, 2010, 09:08:19 pm »
Has the workshop happened yet?

Even though I'm extremely novice programmer slowly learning and most of this would possibly go over my head I'm always keen to view webinars etc to help up-skill and hopefully down the track help out with the project.

I think it would be very beneficial to have any workshops recorded for reference afterwards and also for future developers who join. After a little hunting I have found the following have you tried it? From what can see it's a 30 day unlimited access free trial? https://www2.gotowebinar.com

Either way presuming nothing else booked in I'll attend.

Once the windows builder is back up and running constantly, this will not be needed, as the file will be packaged with the build.

Sounds good.... more than happy to help in the mean time.

Hi All,

I have put the file up on website at the following link: http://www.kbs.org.nz/downloads.html

Presuming I don't have any bandwidth limit issues then file will stay up.

Cheers

Users / Add a new drive - already formatted NTFS
« on: January 18, 2010, 01:33:09 am »
Now had the core up and running for a while and seems pretty stable I'm wanting to up the storage.

I have a 1TB drive that has movies on it and formatted as NTFS. If I add internally will it work fine with NTFS or is there benefit(or only option) of taking the data off the drive, formatting it ext3 and then reloading the data?

Added benefit of NTFS is I can shutdown slide the drive out and throw in other machine if ever needed.

Cheers

Installation issues / Re: Where has windows orbiter gone?
« on: January 17, 2010, 11:03:26 pm »
There is currently no windows orbiter built for 8.10. I think someone is working on it at the moment.

7.10 windows orbiter does still work(not perfectly from memory) if you can track that down.

Have a hunt on the forum as there is a topic already made in last couple months discussing this (not sure how much detail).

I'm also wanting to get a smoke detector system setup through the house. Z-Wave is pretty much out of the question for me at this stage if my understanding of the system is correct (all products on forums are not allowed in NZ due to frequency). I'm in New Zealand and there seems to be only selected few products around from place in Australia (USB hub and appliance controllers).

GC100 looks to be great product but the cost seems very high and as mentioned the Z-Wave $100 detector if needing 4 or 5 is not an option for a lot of people.

Hari how did you get on with the ethernet solution?

Looking for something readily available, affordable solution that won't break the bank! :)

Installation issues / Re: VOIP....please help
« on: January 13, 2010, 10:30:49 pm »
I'm kinda at similar stage mine, I can fill in details and it DOES come back with line displaying details, edit, delete but no status and does not connect(maybe does not attempt connection). Have not had a chance to go back and check my settings in the file (might have time tonight).

No idea what is wrong with yours sorry. Under one of the menu's at the top of the web-admin (maybe advanced?) there is phones page that opens up asterisk page I could not locate any logs which I was hoping would tell me where I had gone wrong. Page may or may not provide you with some information.

...Just saw your new post. Cool glad its working that page might be of use for backend status anyway

Not 100% sure but mine does show up in web-admin(even though does not connect). I used tabs between values.

Looks like your using spaces? Try tab and see how goes.

After setting up user info did you add to provider list?:

Make yourself sudo user: "sudo su"
Edit the Provider List: "nano /etc/asterisk/provider_list.txt"

Also make sure the spacing within the file is correct?

Sounds like more issues than holding shift to get wizard but as Mandingo said hold down shift key after bios screens and Linux starts up keep holding until wizard starts(I to have no beeps but that worked for me to get wizard working).

Oh and lock the PC away so girlfriend cannot shut it down....  ;D

Users / xmlTVNZ - Will this xml work?
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:50:20 am »
Attempting to get egp working for NZ and wondering if someone could have a quick look at this and let me know if likely to be any issues with LinuxMCE? Wanting to reduce chance of breaking anything :)

http://www.reven.co.nz/xmlTVNZ/Guides/LinuxGuide.aspx

If any easier solution I'm all ears! 1st time used MythTV so bit of learning curve.

I did reinstall yesterday and had similar problems. Ran sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 w32codecs and seemed to have fixed issue (tried a DVD and worked fine).

Welcome fellow NZ'er  ;D good to see others using LinuxMCE. Will you be setting up automation at some stage?

Trentend mentioned the main things to work out first around network and server config.

I'm still in early stages of using the system (rebuilding at the moment). Built a FreeNas server last week so might use that as storage instead of MCE.

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8070.0 has some info on android orbiter development.
