Installation issues / Re: No DVD decryption software

I'm also on a new install now and cannot get it working. Could this be related to ksmserver error and something is not being installed? http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=9541.0

You can change the "Seconds before power off" for the onscreen orbiter.

Cheers, will have a play around with that setting see how things go.

Looks like a cool product. Would not be powerful enough for livetv and unsure on other tasks. BUT if it could be booted up as a MD and cheap to buy it could probably be installed for audio, pics and web and be a nice addition to outdoor area for hidden audio setup that could easily be left running with max of 3watts of power usage....?

Do you have any idea what the cost of these units are?

Users / Gate sensor feedback to MCE
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:24:33 am »
I have a sensor on our drive way that sends signal to a unit inside and sounds a buzzer. The internal unit can be used as a relay whenever it is activated.

Could this somehow be interfaced with LinuxMCE? It's a Chamberlain sensor which is widely available so if someone already has one setup even better!

Here is a image from manual of what looks like.

So if receiver is turned on manually then I just need to be prepared to turn back on.... and get remote for MCE working properly and just use that for radio :)

Cheers.

I have the system setup to control my receiver via IR. The unit turns it off when MCE not in use. I'm guessing is screensaver or sleep mode of sorts?

Is there a way to stop this? Bit frustrating when I'm listening to radio and all of sudden receiver turns off :(

Cheers,

CRTL -Alt-F1 or CRTL-ALT-F2
Log in, and type ksmserver <enter>
You will receive something like "not installed, enter sudo apt-get install kdebase-workspace-bin"
Do it: sudo apt-get install kdebase-workspace-bin.
It will be installed.
Also do a sudo apt-get install konsole dolphin systemsetting synaptic
After this, CTRL-ALT-F7 and under KDE you will be able to install whatever necessary with synaptic.
It worked for me.
Hope this helps.

Pretty much fixed my issues. Cheers.

Have you tried going through the web install? http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_0810

Exactly per instructions. I have been using that as never had luck with desktop script in the past.

There is an issue with KDE not working that a few people are having including myself (unsure if all new installs) but there is a bit of a work around. http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=9541.0

Installation issues / Re: Can't access web admin

Hi Rob

Here are the instructions to get outside access: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Outside_Access

From memory you cannot specify the password for your users in AVwizard it gives you a default password same as userid. The Ubuntu login will NOT work in web-admin unless you have created another linuxMCE login with same details.

Not sure where it stores users (presuming you meaning in database?) but if the system is starting up then on the screen will be a persons name. Try using that in both username and password and see if have any luck.

When you went through AV Wizard you specified users. The user's name your created is the web-admin login and password ie user 'Bob' web-admin login is 'username = Bob' 'password = Bob' I think it is case sensitive as well.

I am reconsidering the datagrid workshop in light of future rewrites to orbiter, part of which will address deficiencies in the DataGrid plugin to replace with something far more flexible.

-Thom

Sounds like a good idea to skip it then as your time would be more valuable elsewhere than teaching something that is going to be out of date soon. Look forward to the rewrite!
