Users / Which slingbox do i need with mce?
May 25, 2009, 09:46:02 PM
Basically as the title to be honest?  What is the cheapest / lowest spec slingbox i can get away with for an MCE install?  All i want to be able to do is listen to mp3s / music / internet radio in my bed room so not even fussed about a decent display.

Thanks

Users / What size system partition?
May 23, 2009, 05:02:44 PM
I am just about to finish building my first hybrid and was wondering what size should i make the system partition for MCE?  I have a spare 250gb sata drive but it seems a bit of a waste to just have this as a system drive, im guessing i could get away with a much smaller drive, but what sort of size is about right?  Im looking for a fairly standard hybrid setup with all my music on a NAS and a 1TB drive for DVD rips.

Thanks.

Users / TV RS232 commands...how to..
May 20, 2009, 10:43:45 PM
Right guys, after some digging on the internet i have managed to find the rs232 protocols for my Dell 37In LCD.  I have attached the page from the spec document, but am unsure how to get this information into MCE in a usable fashion.

Can anyone help please?

Pretty much as the title really guys.  From what i can see there will be no fiire chief  support in 810 (whenever it is released!? anyone have a date???), so what should i go for that will be forward compatible?  I like the gyro support that is demonstrated in the videos on MCE but dont want to spend $130~ on hardware that is going to be a nightmare to get working in the stable multi hardware supporting 810 version of MCE.

I have finally made the jump to getting my MCE hybrid setup!  Below is a list of the hardware i have ordered so far;

     AMD Athlon64 5050e Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail
   SilverStone GD02S Silver Media Center Style,No PSU
        Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro Sock754/939/AM2 Cooler

ASUS M3N78-EM NFORCE 8300 Motherboard
RAM-2GB    800MHZ 2GB 240 PIN DDR2 PC6400    A
HIPER 425 WATT 18DB SILENT PSU A    A
KWORLD DVB-T 399U PLUSTV DUAL DV    A
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.12 500GB

Im hoping this will be a nice little hybrid once i get it up and running.  I will report back as and when i get it working! (More likely report back asking for help!)

Hi guys;

i am just about to take the jump and build my first hybrid MCE machine.  Having read the wiki i cannot find any modern motherboards that positively list HDMI audio as working. After a fair bit of reading/research (and shopping around) I am pretty set on using the ASUS M3N78-EM which has a great wiki post about it (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_M3N78-EM).

I am just wondering if anyone has managed to get HDMI audio working on this board or not, the wiki is based around 0710 so im hoping version 8 helps...

Thanks for any info;

I have been fully sold on MCE by the video but really feel that a hybrid will best meet my needs.  I have been through the Wiki over the past few weeks and apart from some old hardware am pretty impressed with how far the project has come!  The question I have is if you were setting up a hybrid system would you still spend the cash on the slightly older MSI Media Live or look at a rebuild with newer hardware?

Thanks for any help!
