Installation issues / Re: MD setup: no route to host
« on: April 06, 2009, 07:30:11 pm »
After all the issues you've been having with that NIC, I'd spend $20 and buy a NIC that works, or hook up a laptop and see if it can grab an IP from your Core...

See this link, for example (this suggestion came out of a LinuxMCE forum post).  If it doesn't work, don't hold me responsible  :o

Users / Pluto Orbiter question-Web Bookmarks
« on: April 05, 2009, 02:52:39 am »
When I open up Pluto Orbiter and I'm in UI1 on my laptop I have an issue when I pull up "Computing, Web Bookmarks" and I try to connect to any of the Web Bookmarks.  As soon as I do, I get "Mouse" and then Left + Right buttons below that, so I can't connect to any of the default Web Bookmarks.  All Web Bookmarks buttons throw this up.  Is this because I don't have a mouse connected to my laptop...?  I use the touchpad.  I've searched high and low and there's nothing in the forums or Wiki.

For anyone who's got this board running successfully, do you see these messages in your syslog / messages?

"rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz"

** They seem to be harmless, but annoying for sure.

You need a space for that command:

cd /boot

You can also type "sudo -s" before you start the commands so you don't have to put sudo in front of every one.

It will work as described in the wiki article only.  I also was able to program functions from my TV's IR remote into the Gyration, such as turning the power on and off and picking an input source.  There are directions that come with the remote that describe how.  I, myself, and satisfied with how it works with LMCE.

Yeah, I think this is my issue.  Do you know where I'd go in the Admin Console?  I went under "Advanced, Software, Boot Sequence" but I don't see the Screensaver.sh process listed there.

Thanks,

Now I think it's related to a process spawned from LaunchPhoto_Screen_Saver.sh.  I've turned off the screen saver in the Admin Console, but this process was spawning and respawning until I killed it.  Now my box is stable.  Do you know how I'd keep that from loading on boot?

Installation issues / Re: Help... ATI Radeon HD 2400 - Machine Freezes

Take a look at this post.  You might have to get the new ATI drivers and there is a FAQ as well dealing with ATI cards.

I turned off hpet already  :P

My Asus P5NSLI has an onboad GB NIC and I stuck a 10/100 Intel Nic in the box.  Maybe I'll try to disable the onboard NIC and put another one in and see if the errors go away.

I think ztdummy's somehow causing my syslog to fill up with these errors:  "rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz"...eventually hanging the box.  The consensus is that disabling HPET in the bios will help...not for me.  Clean DVD install.

Thanks,

My kids think it's really cool that we've got Internet now on our TV and as such I can't keep them off it.  I searched the forums, etc. before posting.  Is there any way to set up a screen saver for this particular purpose?

Thanks,

I'm putting this here if others experience the same issue.  There's a built-in utility in LCMCE that allows you to resize your screen.  It presents a large red X that you can move around with arrows and the + and - key.  I was able to shrink my whole screen and it looks pretty now.  Using this obviates the need to manually tweak config files as suggested.

Thanks, but it's not Ok within X, LMCE.  I know this isn't really an LMCE issue, but I was hoping maybe someone had a way of dealing with it.  I've got the resolution problem resolved, but the left side of the screen is basically cut off a 1/2 inch.  It does it within X and outside of X.  I'm guessing that if the TV doesn't support adjustment within its menu system, then there's not much I can do, but I'm not sure.   The TV does support RGB adjustments for size within its menu, just not for HDMI input.   I have to use the HDMI though.

I was able to get it to a higher resolution using the AV Wizard.  Do you think your advice still applies though because the left side of the screen is skewed when I'm at the command line, outside of X.  Because the TV only has size adjustment for the VGA input and not the HDMI, I wonder if I'm just screwed.  I'm living with it but it's hellish annoying.

Can you share those settings that you put in Xorg?  I guess it's the Mode line?

Thanks,
