Before i even dive head first into the screencasts for new UI's, i wanted to find out if others were able to produce any alternatives with ease?  Has anybody been able to come up with a viable alternative after watching the screencasts? I would like any and everyone who has taken this task on to please list the pitfalls and any promising information.  Is the software used for developing new UI's difficult for a newbie?  Also, i searched posts in the forum and have been following the cirion windows 5/6 plutomo post, has anyone been about to get anywhere with this or has it been a nearly impossible feat? trying to find out if any of this would be over my head.  If you computer geniuses are having a difficult time with the above mentioned items, i know i would have a long way to go.  thanks guys. ???

Hi Thom, I can appreciate what you mean when you say it's a geek cop out. The only thing is that we may not be the only one's using linuxmce, I love and it im already addicted to this thing.  By the way i appreciate all the work you geniuses have done, what you devs have done, especially you and Hari have done thus far is amazing! round of applause. back to my point...i'm sure many of us are trying to get our friends and family to use and appreciate linuxmce the same way we do.  That was just one of the questions posed to me from friends when i was showing off my system and I kinda saw that it was a little bit of pain to have to make several selections just to play a audio/video file. I know it's open source and we have a choice not to use it, but like i said we love it, but maybe we can make one or two little tweaks here and there so it's usable for those that just want to click one or two selections and have the file play quicker can do so. please don't take offense to this, it's just a observation.   ::)

hmmm perhaps, possibly making the selection of the song be the trigger for playing the song instead of having to go to the play/close/delete/move screen(like windose off((windows))).  Maybe it could be made optional to have to go through that screen since closing the screen can be done by remote normally anyway?  :)

Forgive this noobie for what may be a stupid question, but is there any way to cut down on the number of steps needed to play media?  Example: if i want to play a audio file using a orbiter or remote, i have to go to media, then go to audio, then select a album, then sect a song(the last two of which i understand), but then still have to choose play, close, delete, or move, in order to play a file.  Now again, i'm new to this so maybe i'm missing this. I read the wiki and went through forums.  Is there anyway to reduce the steps needed to play media? thanks :)

My apologies for my lack of understanding. I just started using he system and have been using a ati remote that came with my ati video card. The only things that work on the remote when working with linuxmce are the mouse and the left/right click buttons on the the remote.  I just wanted to know that there is a remote or a way that will bring up the orbiter menu before i went any further with the sytem. hope i didn't sound as if i was complaining because i do rather enjoy using linuxmce thus far. ;D

Sorry, what i was referring to was UI2 with alpha blending.  Please tell me how you accomplished watching a video file or myth tv and used a gyro remote to bring up the menu in order to control the lighting or use the telecom/alarm feature? thanks  :-\

Hello,
Is it possible for one to create a UI that will allow a user to watch TV, Movie, play audio etc. without having to exist myth tv/xine player to turn on the lights, arm the alarm, answer the onscreen phone?  The alpha transparency is aesthetically beautiful, but not useful if one must exit the current activity to complete another task such as turning on the lights or viewing cameras.  Can the transparent floor plans for lighting, media, security etc be transposed over media such as myth tv programming?  I know of the other option which is a orbiter, but i do enjoy using the UI3.  thus, my questions whether or not it is already possible or is it even possible to make using tschak's UI tutorial?
