Ive made an honest effort to try and learn this distro and learn MCE, but its been over 7 years since Ive even used Linux.

One problem I have run into on this site is that when using the search function, articles and threads that are displayed have been outdated and rendered irrelevant. For example, the search function and the wiki both presented conflicting and confusing views regarding JavaMO and its compatibility. The wiki has a very short article and only mentions a few devices it is even compatible with, meanwhile, the search function showed me threads that lead one to believe that it JavaMO does not even exist or is still in development! Same goes for looking for information on motherboards that are compatible, the wiki said yes, and threads said no.

So I apologize if I pissed anyone off, it was not my intention and all I really wanted to do was learn without sounding 'whiny'. Therefore, Im not going to mess with it anymore till I get my box put together after the holidays and meanwhile i try my best to learn more about the LinuxMCE and some other media center options which I have already discovered may be better for my needs and with more understanding forum users.

No hard feelings toward anyone, ill reserve posting anymore until I have the box put together i intend to use permanently.

Dude calm yourself, I read that but was under the impression that it would only affect me if I was running more than one device from this box. I apologize for wasting your precious time man but come on.

So adding a second NIC card and reinstalling the Os takes care of the problem, got it.

I did... it didnt work

Regardless, I reinstalled the OS and made sure I knew the password. Now it works.

I thought the two NIC cards were only if I had more than one unit? Currently I am running MCE on my main computer and having it act as my core and media manager. Besides, the internet started working.

Users / Crash while installing Nvidia drivers
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:55:35 pm »
Im following the instructions from the wiki regarding downloading and installing the latest nvidia drivers but im getting a weird issue during the process. I downloaded the correct driver, then switched to telinit 1 so i could install them, but it seems that once i do this, about a minute later the UI crashes to the main console and says *Restarting UPnP Media Server Fuppesd* I tried continuing the installation from this console but it told me the file could not be found.

What would be causing this?

Well I decided to go ahead and reinstall linuxmce after running into roadblocks trying to login to the server.

Anyway, that issue is resolved except now I can't get online! It did the updates at the beginning ok but none of my browsers are responding.

No I didn't, if I'm understanding it correctly I just need to download it and place it in the correct user pluto folder?

Is there any installation requoired for that? And is there an apt get command to get it?

Users / Blackberry as orbiter with javaMO

I downloaded and installed JavaMO to my BB and installed my Bluetooth dongle to the pc and it found my phone fine, but when I open the javaMO app, it says awaiting connection. How do I tell mce to use the bb as an orbiter?

I tried the method that the wiki suggested, which was using the first family members name as both the login and password, this did not work regardless of caps.

I'm at work atm so I will try using the other method when I get home.

My reasoning for doing this is that I am trying to install the NVIDIA drivers for my card, but it asks me to shutdown the x console(?) Which I read required you to press ctrl+alt+bckspce to enter into the console with the x console turned off.

When I do ctrl+alt+bckspce, it asks for my login and pass.

Btw, thanks for everyones help, I am completely noob at this and its been a loooooooong time since I've messed around with linux so I appreciate the help.
