Users / Re: How do we update DVD cover art that amazon can't get?
« on: May 31, 2008, 11:51:41 pm »
Roy, thank you very much for the detailed info on how these are stored in the database.  I see that as soon as I add a pic to the admin control webpage, the corresponding ###.jpg and ###-tn.jpg and created in /home/mediapics.  I can view the thumbnail picture in the folder, but the ###.jpg does not seem valid.  I get no preview, and when I click on it I see no reported dimensions, and I can't view it when I open it in another program such as Gwenviewer or firefox.  The thumbnail works fine in preview, dimensions, and gwenviewer/firefox.

Even though the ###-tn.jpg pic is valid and I can view it, it does not show up in the orbiter.  I have restarted the orbiter, and linuxMCE from the control panel and I still see only the text title name where the DVD cover should be.

The dimensions of the photo I add are approximately the same as the full-size (500 px tall) screen covers from amazon, and it is a jpg format.  Any ideas?  I'm going to post one to this thread so maybe someone who has gotten this to work can see if my pic works on their system.  It could be a problem with the images, although the thumbnail gets created fine.

Are you regenerating the orbiter(s) after updating the cover art? If not - that should be all you need to do.

Wizards -> Devices -> Orbiters  (regen button) via web admin or in advanced via the UI....

I just added a new pic, about the same size as the amazon ones, and in jpg format.  I see it in the database when I click on the movie.  Then I regenerated the orbiter and don't see it.  I tried to resync the database, then regenerate the orbiter, no luck.  I also reloaded the router, still don't see the pic in the orbiter or after selecting the movie and displays the larger pic and the attributes.  Anyone have any ideas why this is not working?

Some of my DVDs can't get the correct cover art from amazon, usually its a foreign version or an HD-DVD, etc.  How can I update these manually?  I am not having much luck with the media file sync add/update pic feature.  It works for the pic after you click on the movie, but not the one you see in the orbiter when you are browsing.  I have tried to overwrite the pic in /home/mediapics with what I want to use but then it generates another file and thumbnail with a higher number and uses the original pic I chose.  Has anyone gotten this to work?  I'm using a jpg, and I've restarted the router and orbiter after updating and I still am not having any luck.  Also I notice after I enter a pic to use, it creates the thumbnail and regular file, but when I browse the /home/mediapics dir using the preview function in KDE I can see the thumbnail pic ok, but the regular one is not visible.  When I click on it the pic browser comes up but nothing is visible, like it is corrupted or something.  Any help will be appreciated.

Is there anything special about the type of the pic other than making it a jpg?  I added a pic for a DVD that couldn't find the right one on amazon.com (Dukes of Hazzard) and it does not show up in the media, just the text title.  I did resync and restart the router before checking, and regenerated the orbiter.

Users / Re: Adding Fiire Chief remote to existing install

I added the MCR dongle and then updated (I think I forgot to update in the first place) and the directional arrows work on the fiire chief now.  When I hit media button it only comes up with the cursor.  The gyration does not move the cursor on the screen, is there any other package I need to install for this?

Is there a page detailing this?  I only find how to try to get non-fiire chief remotes to work when searching.  Should this just be plug and play?  I see the led on the receiver is orange, should it be green?  It is solid, not flashing.  I tried to add remote, Fiire in the admin page.  I tried the MCR remote template and it does not seem to work after reloading the router.  Should I be using a different template?  When I select Mfr. Fiire, and click add filter there is no device template listed in the pull-down menu anymore.

Thanks for the info Geoffrey.  If you still have it running would you mind posting your xorg.conf file?  I am currently rebuilding my system on a RAID1 array but I'll be trying to get the 1080i working shortly.

Users / Setting up RAID on a hybrid system for main system disk?
« on: May 21, 2008, 08:23:48 pm »
Is it possible to do this after you have installed LinuxMCE?  I found a few threads showing to install Ubuntu with software raid on two disks, then install LinuxMCE on top.  I have MCE installed on a 1TB disk and I would like to mirror that with a second 1TB disk for fault tolerance.  I hope this is possible without reinstalling, but if not do I just need to get the CD download, the Ubuntu CD, and install ubuntu with raid, then mce on top?

Currently I can go into the config menu but it allows me to configure raid on two new disks.  If it is possible to do this in the KDE environment outside of the MCE admin page I'd be happy to do that.  I would like to avoid reinstalling since I have the setup working great and it has taken a while to get it here.

Thanks for any assistance!

How did you go about setting that up?  My TV doesn't support 1080p so that may be why the AV setup wizard won't use 1080 as a setting.  How do you manually set it up?  I've started experimenting with the xorg.conf file but haven't found a setting that works yet.

Thanks!

Anyone?  Nobody is running 1080i?  Is it officially unsupported and broken in 0710?

I saw that it was unsupported for a while in previous releases, is this still the case?  If anyone has it working can you please share your xorg.conf file?

My TV supports 1080i not 1080p so I can't use the setup program to set the video.  I have it working fine on 720p now but I'd like to get 1080i for full HD on channels that support it.

Thanks!

Good luck.  FYI I'm running 0710 RC2.  I don't know why it works fine to browse under public folders but does not work under private.  Can anyone with more knowledge on how this is all setup chime in?  I'm new to MCE as of a few days ago.

Thanks Roy.  I do have the ownership correct (pluto_jon) for both user and group of the subdirectories, and all files.  I still cannot browse into these folders or even see a folder name once I select sort by filename.  Again this works fine for public, just not for my private/user data.

I have tried a few workarounds but can't get them to work correctly either:

1) I put a folder in public/data/videos and changed permissions/ownership to 750, pluto_jon for user/group.  It was still accessible to public user.

2) I put a symlink in public/data/videos to user_1/data/videos, a folder there, etc.  This did not work to be able to browse those folders.

Is it just not possible to browse the folders in the user files, only public?  Is there any other hack or workaround anyone can think of?

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

Thanks Roy, great idea to check that.  File browsing works fine within the public folder.  I am not able to under my user_1 folder.  I tried changing permissions to 777 just to see if that was an issue and it still would not let me see any directories once I sort by filename.  It goes back to only seeing the files in the root dir and no subdirs.  Is this method of browsing into subdirectories supported in user directories?

Users / Another media browsing thread..
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:28:58 am »
Before you ask, I have searched and read most if not all of the threads.  First of all, this is not an issue for a small few, it is something that needs to be addressed.  I am fine with using the filename suggestion that has come up numerous times although that does not work.  I have a few files in my /home/user_1/data/videos root dir, then I have made a subdirectory structure 2-deep to test this out.  There is one file in the root (videos) dir, and the rest are in subdir Myd (or subdirs of that).  When I browse I see the public media, then I enter my pin and see all the media if sorting by title.  If I sort by filename then I only see the file in the root dir of my private files.  I though I would see the directory names as well so I can navigate through the file structure?  What good is it if it is root dir or everything?  I saw a thread where someone mentioned to stop complaining and use filename, and if it isn't working its broken, fix it.  Well, it sounds like mine is broken and I would love to know how to fix it.  I have not found any info on here.  I am pretty proficient with unix/linux but new to MCE.

Second question - if I am logged in (I'm listed under user) should I be able to see my private media without entering the pin?  This is my desired behavior to not have to have everyone have access, but I was wondering if this is the way it is supposed to work.  The documentation page example about john and susan's music seems to indicate otherwise.
