Users / Re: Net boot - Jetway JNC62K mobo - Kernel panic
« on: January 13, 2009, 10:39:28 pm »
Hi nosebreaker,

I have a j9f2 extreme from jetway which requires the 2nd pci-e device (2nd NIC) to be disabled in the bios as well as disabling the pxe-boot option. I found without this the 2nd NIC is still active and the NICs keep swapping during the boot process.
Hope this helps.

OK solved this.

You need to add attributes to each file in the web admin or it won't be available.

Hope this helps someone!

Users / Copied media on the core - not visible on MD
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:29:26 pm »
I am trying to expand my media library by adding some mp3s to my core. I have copied the files using scp from my ubuntu laptop. I have changed permissions and ownership (root:public) and put them in the public/data/audio folder on a sata drive on the core.

Then went to web admin and clicked resynchronize. The files are there and shown as in db and on disk.

The new files are not being added to my MD. I have done a quick reboot AND a full reboot of the core.

Anyone know why? Is there a better way do do this?

I haven't tried a lot of motherboards but I think from the instability that I am seeing we have a UI1 only Jetway J9F2-Extreme Core Duo Mainboard here.

In short using UI2:
The picture freezes when the overlay is visible and no key presses work. I have to ssh in and reboot or send the command from the web admin.
Sometimes it crashes instantly with graphic tearing.
DVI output doesn't always show the bios screen at post (have to quickly ctrl-alt-del until it shows).

Is it bios settings? Is it xorg.conf? Grrr!!! ???
I will keep playing around but it has been frustrating. Not sure if I should add it to the wiki as a 'does not work with UI2' m/board.

Is your MD amd64 or 32bit? Mine was amd64. I have read that the CD install doesn't have all the drivers required by 64bit systems.

I don't know how to copy/paste the conf file (I'm quite new at this). I can vi into the file as root on moonxx but not sure what to do next!!
I haven't tried the i815 driver as I don't know how to change/remove drivers yet either.

I have tested my system tonight and I removed the overlay and just had the pictures changing and it was stable for ages. I pressed F7 for the overlay menu and within a minute it had frozen and locked up.

Happy to post my xorg.conf if someone can tell me how!

More info:
Core is 32bit with nvidia graphics and works fine
MD is now rebuilt as 32bit (was detected as 64bit) and freezes regularly if the overlay is visible

Thanks for your input methodus. You have exactly the same setup as me down to the T7200 processor. Is your core 32bit or 64bit? Did you try rebuilding the MD as i386?

I still think it might be a setting in xorg.conf. I had it running stable yesterday with UI2 overlay for 20 minutes and watched a DVD. Today it's frozen with tearing graphics.

I'll post back if I get it stable.

Itsik did you get this working?

I had a similar problem which I solved by going into the admin website > media directors and changing the MD to i386. Then rebuild the image (wait a few minutes for the message) and boot your MD. This somehow fixed my intel 945 graphics issues.

Hope this helps.

OK managed to figure this out ... sort of.

I am running a 710 RC1 32 bit core (DVD install) and I added the 64 bit MD above. As far as I know this should work but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Using the web admin I changed the MD to i386 and clicked rebuild image.

I now get the AV wizard and can configure the DVI output. I went through the media setup and everything seems fine but I am now getting a screen freeze after a minute of no activity. I have to reboot.

I can't add this as a working motherboard to the wiki as it still doesn't run that well. UI1 seems OK though.

I have a Jetway J9F2-Extreme Core Duo Mainboard as a media director but so far I haven't got the intel graphics to work and can only get UI1 with the vesa driver. I had read that the the intel 945gm should work out of the box. The wiki says it should work (I am using 710 RC1).

If I leave the intel driver in xorg.conf x-server will not start.

Anyone had similar issues? Can anyone guide me how to manually configure this MD to use the intel driver?

Thanks Zaerc,

Will start experimenting. If I can get it working I will update the wiki.

OK. Nothing else is happening. Just the same message.

Any suggestions for a manual setup?

Cheers Zaerc,

It's running now and I'm leaving it alone. Mainly one message looping now:
lmce_launch_manager: cannot connect to X server :0

About 200 times so far. Will leave it alone and report back.

CIFS VFS: cifs mount failed w/return code = -13

Hi Kate and welcome.

Firstly you need an earlier version of Kubuntu 710 and the linuxmce install further customises the config files. You need either the DVD iso or the 2 cd isos. The main difference being the DVD is easier but wipes your drive, whereas the cds are slightly more customisable and allow you to boot to kubuntu desktop or linuxmce.

From your comments I don't think you can achieve what you want to. You need a dedicated linuxmce server. It's not the kind of system that can be made to fit in with your setup ... more a case of adapting to be able to use linuxmce.

This may help:

Installation issues / Diskless MD installs but no AV Wizard
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:33:08 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a Jetway J9F2-Extreme Core Duo mini itx Mainboard. Intel 945GM graphics, dual gigabit LAN. I disabled one of the NICs in the bios and successfully booted to PXE.

The media director installed (and appears on the admin site) but when the AV wizard normally appears I see the crosshairs for a second then I see some messages on the dos screen.
DCOPClient:Attach Internal. Attach failed could not open network socket.

Followed by another crosshair then:
kdeinit:Can't connect to the X server
kdeinit: Might not terminate at the end of the session
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-9258' to 'kded': ERROR communication problem with kded, it probably crashed

Also, messages about SAMBA for a split second just before the crosshairs flash on screen and it loops again. Basically it all goes wrong just as AV wizard is about to launch. Any suggestions? BIOS settings? Could it be an unrecognized NIC (despite booting and installing?)

Further info:
MD is 64bit
Core is 32bit
Just successfully added a dell laptop as a diskless MD with no problems.
NIC is REALTEK RTL8111B 10 / 100 / 1000 PCI-E LAN

Found an option in the bios to enable/disable pci-e connections. This allowed me to disable the second NIC. Hurray!!!!!!!!

Now booting via PXE and seems to have installed. Now got a weird looping graphics problem when AV wizard is trying to start (cannot connect to x server) but that's another thread!
