Jean,

I do not think they are there yet. I read the review on Anand-tech and he states in his review that there is no digital output at least on the model he tested and they use about 90% of the cpu with a 720p video file. There is absolutely zero hardware acceleration and it all has to be handled via the CPU (Atom). I do not have a link I just google Eee Box and found the Anand-Tech review.

In closing he states that this will not make a good htpc at this point. I would save some money and wait for another model.

 regards,

 Dave

Hmmm... well based on our test of the Intel ATOM i945 based motherboard which uses the same chipset and importantly for video perfoamnce the same GMA950 GPU I can say that we dont see anything more than 15-20% cpu usage when playing a ripped DVD at 720p.

Overall performance is really very good indeed and i would not have any reservations about overall performance of ATOM 1.6Ghz based units.

All the best

Andrew

Andrew,

How plug and play is the Intel Atom i945 you tried?

Did you have to do anything special to get the video to work or was it recognised?

Thanks Andrew.

Adding to the playlist as you have stated is the only way I am going to get acceptance from 'the Boss' to use LMCE instead of XP MCE.

If there is anything I can do to help the development (testing, feedback, non-technical documentation) let me know, unfortunately I haven't done anything with Unix for 10 years and longer since I have done basic C++ and Visual Basic.

In the Audio player interface when you select a track to play you have the following options:

Play  -  Close  - Delete

So you play the first track, then you want to play a second track after the one that is already playing but the only option is to 'Play'.  How do I do what in Win MCE is 'add to playlist'?

EU frequency is 868.42 MHz, US frequency is 908.42.

and of course the voltage is different.

Installation issues / Re: Compatible Mother Boards
« on: August 07, 2008, 02:04:28 pm »
If it helps:

Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 with GeForce 6100 (256Mb shared), Realtek 8201 phy (10/100Mbit – eth0) LAN onboard

I have this board in my Hybrid Core, have not seen any issues

Have Used:
Onboard NIC (tested both internal and external)
Onboard Video - tested to 720P (LCD 720P only).  Some tearing on UI2 with alpha blending but I believe that is common on all.
USB - Working
RS232 - Working

Not Tested:
Onboard sound

Matsonic MS8147C VIA KT400 Chipset Socket A, Realtek RT8100B LAN (10/100 Mbit), AC’97 audio (sound did not work)

I have this board in a MD

Have Used:
Onboard NIC
USB - Working

Not Tested:
RS232

Did not work:
Onboard Sound - although I did not spend too much time trying to fix it as I had a spare soundcard to hand

I will add them to the wiki soon

could you provide test samples of those?

I'm just rewriting the Z-Wave code, and this sounds very interesting. I assume they work on EU Z-Wave frequencies (868Mhz)?

best regards,
Hari

I will send samples to help with the code development, although I don't have them at the moment.  I wanted to see if there was interest before importing them because I have to import a large quantity to make it viable.

They could be either be EU or US frequency from our US or UK office.

Do people think the prices I quoted are desirable?

Users / Re: How to control TV via rs232
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:18:03 pm »

Hi,

I've modified existing generic LG lcd TV template with neede Ruby codes, but I have yet to talk to developers how to enter them in LMCE - so it will probably not be available soon...

Basically I based my work on this one :

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LG_42LB5D

Regards,

Bulek.

Bulek,

I followed the instructions in the link and can not get it to work.  I know my serial port works becasue I used to use it for a CM11A X10 controller.  I have a null modem cable between my Hybrid Core and LG 37RZ55.  I have tried sending test signals to it but with no response.

Anybody help?

If you are going to build a Core, why not build an MD?

If you live in the UK this is what I would do:

buy a motherboard (find one from the WIKI), preferably with onboard NVidia graphics, Gigabit Lan, and Sound (about £35)
RAM 512Mb min (about £7)
CPU don't need much - AMD Sempron LE-1200 2.1GHz clock speed 256Kb L2 cache 45Watt AM2. (£20)
Case - A nice one to keep the ladies happy - this is where you can spend.

My MD's are old PC's that were being thrown away, new Quiet power supplies and hidden in cupboards

(prices are from Spot On Computers, Manchester)

I followed Colin's advice and now have DD and DTS passthrough working.

I went to the teminal, typed 'alsamixer', used the arrow keys to move to the right and there is a setting called 'IE958 Optical Raw' and 'Audigy Analogue/digital output jack' I unmuted them both and it works.  I don't know if one or the other, or both does it.  but it is now working.

Try that

Thanks Colin!!

I have the same problem.

My MD says 'file not found' when it tries to play audio or video.  I rebuilt the image but this did not work, I didn't delete the image.

strangely I can change the orbiter to control my Hybrid MD/Core and start a film, and then using the floor plan stream to the MD and that works fine

Anybody got any ideas of an easier way than suggested above to get this working?

My Company Techstyle UK Ltd. (www.techstyleuk.co.uk) imports products from the far east to Europe and North America for Wholesale and Retail customers.

In my search for new products (and because I have set up a LMCE system) I have found a supplier for Z-wave products.  Below is an example of the products/prices:

Window/door sensors  - £20.99
PIR Motion Sensor - £24.99

I am looking for some feedback on prices and interest from the LMCE community.

Is ACPI disabled in the BIOS of the PC's that you are trying as MD's?
