Feature requests & roadmap / Automatic Playlist generation
« on: September 12, 2009, 03:32:02 pm »
One thing that later versions of Windows MCE 2005 has that we don't is automatic playlist generation.  Windows will create a list of the most frequently accessed Audio files into a 'most listened to' playlist.  It does go a little further with Most listened to in the evenings and most listened to on weekends.  I know the media is accessed via a database and that the media know if it has been played or not.  So I think the foundations are there.

Is this possible?  What do people think of this?

Users / Asterisk - LMCE Integration
« on: July 18, 2009, 08:06:50 pm »
When a call comes in and in picked up by the IVR (after the number of seconds specified by the Home>Call Routing page), A voice says "to call everybody in the house press 1" and then a second voice comes in and says "to Call Jason press 2, to Dial Maxine press 3"

I have a couple of questions:

1.  Where can I find the file that does the "to call everybody in the house" thing?
2.  Can I replace the "to call everybody in the house" message with a customised message?
3.  Can I change the Names of the Users without adding new ones and then deleting the old ones?

Thanks,
Jason (Techstyle)

Users / Generic Sip Phone not ringing
« on: May 28, 2009, 05:26:17 am »
I just bought a EP-636 Sip Phone (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QT112K/ref=ox_ya_oh_product - $43) and tried to install it using the Generic Sip Softphone template.  After some configuration on the phone (I will do a Wiki page on the phone later) it is up and running if I dial 204 from an orbiter it rings and works fine. If I dial in from outside then all embedded orbiters on MD's ring but the Sip Phone does not.

Looking at the Telecom->Call Routing page of web admin all my call routing steps read ring extensions and include the Sip Phone

Is there somewhere else I need to set this? or any other reason why the Sip Phone doesnot ring?

Thanks,

Users / What do people use for telephones with LMCE?
« on: May 03, 2009, 07:00:46 am »
I am in the market for a new home phone, either an IP phone or a PSTN device.  I have done some searching of the forums and the Wiki to find thr only things covered are softphones, the Cisco 7970, the Sipura/Lunksys SPA2000 and a post where Totallymaxed stated they used a Phillips DECT version in CHT Builds.  I know some of the other IP phones may work and some of the other Cisco models do work.  But I think it would be good to get a list of the models actually tried and what the result was.

Thanks,

Users / gPXE - PXE booting without a PXE boot ROM
« on: April 15, 2009, 10:32:22 pm »
This thread is a continuation of http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6297.0 where the thread split.

I have been trying to find an easier way to PXE boot an MD that does not have a PXE Boot ROM.  I have been trying to make it easier than as described on the WIKI http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/GRUB_PXE_network_boot for those who are not as familiar with Linux or Grub.

The advantage here is that the website (http://rom-o-matic.net/) will spit out a pre-configured image for your particular NIC.

I have successfully downloaded an ISO file which I have burnt to CD and booted a test machine with.  I have been trying to do this onto a USB memory stick but so far have been unsuccessful.

I will add a WIKI page for the success with the CD and then add to it when the USB Memory stick is working

Users / List of Audio and Video files disapear when an MD used
« on: March 15, 2009, 03:20:15 am »
I have a Hybrid Core with 3 HDD's:

200 Gb IDE drive with the OS on it and a small amount of media
450 GB SATA drive with 200 GB of Video on it
1 TB SATA drive with 770 Gb of Video and Audio on it

with the core alone working, all media is visible on the orbiters.

If I boot up any one of my two MD's (a Dell D620 with Gigabit Broadcom NIC or an Athlon XP 2600 desktop machine with 100 Mbit NIC) and then access some of the media, after an amount of time the list of media changes and only a few files are visible, some on the 200 GB drive and one or two on the 1TB machine (Thom's 'using media in LinuxMCE' weirdly and an REM album).  After this I have to reboot to get it back.  before the reboot I can go into the KDE desktop and use dolphin and access the media from there on the core.

Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to get around it?

Users / Core Locks Up when MD gets to 'Reading files needed to boot'
« on: January 05, 2009, 11:49:35 pm »
I tried to install a new MD on my current build (i have previously had this MD working before a did an unreleated reinstall).  I hit the button to add a new diskless MD in the webadmin tool and then quick reload and boot the New MD.  everything seems to go well, IP addresses are assigned and the MD gets to the line 'reading files needed to boot' and then nothing, and the mouse freezes and the core locks up

Users / More TV Tuner Questions
« on: November 29, 2008, 07:48:29 pm »
Seeing as today there are lots of TV tuner questions I thought I would add mine:

I have just moved to the US (Milwaukee, WI) and do not have any hardware yet for TV tuning or as a PVR.  I have a LMCE core and MD's (in a container with the rest of my stuff) with no tuner card.

My local cable provider is Time Warner and direct TV is available via satelite.  I would normally subscribe to a couple of premium channels such as HBO, Cinemax or Showtime.  All my LMCE MD's are HD ready and I would like to recieve HD to them

What is the best way for me to approach this?
1)  Is there a tuner card that will allow me to recieve all the content I want in both SD and HD?
2)  If not, is there a video capture card that will take the HDMI digital signal or component signal output from a Cable or direct TV box and encode it?

I have read the Wiki and searched on this and it is still somewhat unclear

Thanks in advance
Jason

Users / Missing Hard Drives - Drives come and go
« on: November 02, 2008, 01:24:08 pm »
I have three drives installed in my core:

Samsung SATAII 1Tb drive (which has th OS on it)
Hitachi SATAII 450Gb drive (NTFS)
WD IDE drive 200Gb (Linux)

after the core is up all three drives are available.  within the first day the NTFS drive (or any media on it) ceases to be available and when you look in Dolphin it apears to be unmounted.

I thought this was due to it being NTFS and was going to reformat but this morning (the core has been up for over a week) media from the WD Linux drive was missing.  when I looked in dolphin it apears to be mounted, I could access it and all media was there.  I ran a 'resychronise' in web admin and it said the device was offline.

When I reload there is nochange, when I reboot the drives are back

Can anybody help me and suggest a reason/solution to this?

Users / LMCE Controlling my Reciever Volume
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:52:44 pm »
I have my reciever (Pioneer VSX-410) set up to be controlled by IR.  I am pretty sure the codes are correct because I can go to the 'resend codes' menu and advanced,  pick any code and get the reciever to do wat is asked.

When I use the vol up, vol down and mute, because I have the Audio pipe set from the PC to the reciever and the audio set to digital out (pass through)  I thought LMCE would control my reciever sound but I cannot see any commands being sent.

I am wrong to think this?  I there something I need to do to control the reciever vol with the Win MCE remote?

Users / Access the Internet from an XP Machine on the internal Network
« on: August 15, 2008, 02:00:54 pm »
I have a ADSL modem/router connected to the LMCE core Eth0, LMCE Core Eth1 connected to a Linksys router, XP Laptop connected to the Linksys Router.

From the core I can access the internet.

From the Laptop I can access the Adsl router setup page.  Skype also works but I cannot load a page using internet explorer.  Is there something I am doing wrong?  I am not trying to use a Proxy Server.

Thanks in advance for any help

Users / Adding tracks to the 'now playing' list in LMCE Audio player
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:59:06 pm »
In the Audio player interface when you select a track to play you have the following options:

Play  -  Close  - Delete

So you play the first track, then you want to play a second track after the one that is already playing but the only option is to 'Play'.  How do I do what in Win MCE is 'add to playlist'?
