Installation issues / Re: ASUS M3N78-EM
« on: December 14, 2008, 10:08:14 pm »
I'd try the 2 cd install, just to see if u can get kubuntu going first. I can't even run kubuntu 7.10 on my htpc because the core isn't supported, I got a no prossor scaling error every try. It runs 8.10 though.

Hey krys,

I found a solution! Download remotepad app from the iTunes app store. It supports Linux! I have yet to test it, let know if you try it and it runs successfully. Btw it's a free app

i'm stuck after running the first script

matt@matt-htpc:~/Documents/new-installer$ sudo ./pre-install-from-repo.sh
E: Type 'http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/deb' is not known on line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: Type 'http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/deb' is not known on line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
./pre-install-from-repo.sh: Error installing dpkg-dev

I noticed http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/deb link is gone so i tried this

matt@matt-htpc:~/Documents/new-installer$ sudo ./pre-install-from-repo.sh
E: Type 'http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/lmce-alpha1/binary-amd64/ansi2html-source_2.0.0.44.0811300000_amd64.deb' is not known on line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list

I already have kubuntu 0810 64 bit installed, will there be negative results for sure if I attempt the Linuxmce alpha?? Or is it possible to install 32 bit mce on top of a 64 bit kubuntu... i am thinking its impossible. Let me know guys. thanks

I realized this possibility also, I'm probably wrong, but couldn't we just run the server app in wine or use synergy to make the iphone app work?

I think I'm just going to wait it out and just install mce 0810 whenever it’s finished. I got kubuntu 0810 running and I updated NVIDIA driver so the HDMI works without audio. I'm satisfied with using analog audio for now. Also the NVIDIA onboard NIC works fine. I believe I tried 0710 in safe graphics on a 19 LCD and I don’t have any CRT monitor at my house to try it with so that somewhat rules that option out for now. I just hope that the installation of mce 0810 goes smoothly since I updated the video driver, since it says it installs on a fresh install of kubuntu.

Nevermind Caravaggio, i got kubuntu 8.10 up and running on my HTPC. I will just wait for linuxmce 8.10

23
I have the same motherboard and whenever i go to install kubuntu in safe graphics mode my monitor looses signal and stays gone for some time. I can hear the cd drive reading though. Did you use the 7.10 AMD-64 Caravaggio?

I'd go with the HDhomerun, it seems pretty legit.

Hey rodercot,

Could you get kubuntu running before u added the graphics card and nic?

I just got my htpc:
Asus m3n78-pro
250 gig sata drive x2
Sata Dvd-rw
4 gigs ram

All the drivers run fine in vista ultimate. The hdmi 1080p w/ 7.1 audio playback is great with this board in vista.

I tried to install kubuntu but the screen just says there's no input after I choose to install, or install in safe graphics mode.

Hey nxqd,

Thats good to hear about the PS3. I hope everything works out in our favor. I ment "open" by apple having the SDK program. As for sony i was just talking about how they were orginally gona have an additional linux OS on it. But I don t know anything about bladesevers nor do i even have a PS3 yet, but it sounds like sony had good intentions in the first place. Thanks for the info guys.

Has anyone tried making any iphone applications for linuxmce. I know it has accelerometer just like the firechief remote. I bet its possible to make it just like the firechief remote. We need to take advantage of this device and the PS3 since the are so popular and so open.
