Developers / MVPMC for iPhone
« on: March 05, 2010, 03:09:10 pm »
I just wanted to share that the mvpmc.org team (they built mythtv compatible firmware for the Hauppauge MVP devices) has a new release targeted at iphone.  It looks like it has mythtv and vlc support on the device (including telnet).

I just thought I would share for the team, as there has been other interest in building an MD for iPhone/Pod/Pad devices.

Thanks
Chris

Installation issues / 2 Problems after 810B2 update from 2/23/2010
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:35:44 am »
I did the apt-get update/dist-upgrade update on 2/24/2010 and have run into a serious "snag".

My core upgrade just fine.  I decided to delete my MDs and let the rebuild so they would be cleaner.

The MDs go through the first phase of setup and build the image.  After reboot they fail.  I tracked it down to bad symlinks in tftboot pointing to a non-existent /usr/pluto/diskless/xx/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-17-generic and matching initrd.img files.

What kernel version should it be? Did my upgrade miss files?  If so how can I fix?

I copied the -16- file to -17- to ge the md to boot, which allowed it to boot again.  System seems to run but Myth will die in about 1min of live tv.  Using another machine as a remote, it never notifies what station is being loaded, nor does remote channel selection work.  It also does not jump directly into live tv, it just launches myth.  It seems to indicate a communication problem, but I don't know how to research from here.

Thanks in advance.

Users / Machine recommendation / feedback for cheap foxconn box.
« on: October 13, 2009, 05:36:50 pm »
I saw this machine on newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856119011&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL101309&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL101309-_-MotherboardsBarebone-_-LP1D-_-56119011

Does anyone know if it will handle US digital broadcast rendering @1080i.  I've got an older laptop (1.6 with 915 graphics) in place now, but it seems to struggle on hd playback, and the atom 230 makes me nervous if the gma 950 set can't take care of it.

Any reason to go above 512mb of ram?

I just want to run as MD.

I was also looking at the zotac ION systems (almost twice the cost with case.)  I'm not trying to be cheap, but I don't want to over buy for a simple MD.

Developers / Hauppauge MVP
« on: May 09, 2008, 11:21:42 pm »
I would like to create a device template for the Hauppauge MVP.

I would start as a UPNP client device under mvpmc, it can also emulate squeezebox...

I had it working by manually editing the dhcpd.conf file, and I would like make it a standard device.

I'm just looking for the information to get started registering the device type and building the config pages for it.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Installation issues / MP3 Ripping Failure - 710RC1 - Mixed 64 / 32
« on: May 05, 2008, 03:37:53 am »
I am having intermittent trouble on ripping CD's to MP3 under 710RC1 and I'm looking to see if anyone else is having anything similar or has suggestions.

The core is AMD64 all MD's are 32.

All CD's play fine, but when I try to rip certain CD's are failing it is about 30% right now that are failing.  The ones that are failing will rip under ogg, but fail under mp3 (have even tried different bit rates.)  I have had one cd rip and one fail from a two disc set.  When looking at names, their are no special characters or symbols.

The folders are being created on the server, however the no files are ripped.  One of the files seems to start, and gets locked (but is empty).  The folder then can not be deleted until the core is rebooted.  Doesn't matter if done from core or MD.

I have verified that LAME is loaded on all machines.  I have gone into the add software and removed / added the codecs (wasn't sure if needed or not).

Thanks

Developers / Linspire CNR
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:01:30 pm »
A question for all of you smarter than I :)

Kubuntu is now officially supported through Linspires Click N' Run (CNR).

I have an existing CNR account, with a previously purchased Legal DVD software.

My question is could the CNR client be used with LinuxMCE, to add functionality to the Core/MDs when they are used as regular computers (which happens for us about 20% of the time - kids games and such)  I also like the idea of being able to use a legal DVD Codec.

To me this would allow for LinuxMCE to become a more functional system in our house, Basically I can eliminate having both TV and computer in the same room.  I know I can dual boot, etc... but this is could be the simpler solution.

Thanks in advance

Installation issues / Slow MD no myth-setup after upgrade of 710b3
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:01:58 pm »
Looking for any suggestions before I do a complete fresh install.

I upgraded from 704 to 710b3.  The upgrade itself went smooth but I have some issues now.

Mythtv: I can not access mythtv-setup.  When trying to access I get the blue screen like a new myth installation that asks for location username password...  Ok through there and I skips the setup and jumps to the run mythfilldatabase question.

I have 3 different tuners that I had working in 704, a hauppauge 350, a cheap kworld 7133 based card and a air2pc digital card.  None of which are showing up in the av wizard so I need to use mythtv-setup.

Slow Orbiter: I am using an older 700mhz 384mb laptop for an orbiter (worked fine under 704) but now it is extremely slow, it seems normal until it "loading files needed to boot" then it just gets pokey.  Any suggestions (getting a new system doesn't count)

During the upgrade it may have failed trying to load files after the intial copy from DVD as 710 tried to use the second nic for internet that 704 ignored, so is it possible that it didn't upgrade some packages?

Thanks in advance.
