Users / Where are the Asterisk Files?
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:54:40 pm »
 ???
I have been playing around lately with the Telecom in LMCE 10.04. I understand now that everything asterisk is stored in a database.
However, I would like to know where it is getting it's information from. The problem is, in order for my SIP softphone ( 3CX from the android market ) to work, I have to ensure that the 'host' setting remains set to 'dynamic'. I go in through phpMyadmin, and I can set the field, but something is whacking my settings, and setting them back to 'Null'

Where is the script that changes asterisk located, and where are the files like sip.conf and such stored. I looked in /etc/asterisk, but they are not there, and something is filling in the defaults after a period of undisclosed time. I can change it by hand, and it works, but then when I use it later, the SIP phone fails to register, and sure enough, if I go back into the phpMyadmin for asterisk, it is right back to 'Null'

I also have a feeling this is why my MD phones are not working. Plus, if I had a sip.conf file, I could get my SPA3102 to register, by adding the appropriate line to it.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Seth

Installation issues / Re: Blargh. About to give up.
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:59:22 pm »
I use this motherboard as a core:

Core - Basement

NZXT Gamma Black Case - 580 Watt Green 80 power supply
Asus M3A78-EM Mother board
1x AMD X2 5000+ Dual core 2.6GHz
2G RAM - OCZ
1x LiteOn DVD-CDRW
1x Seagate 500GB SATA drive (OS Drive)
2x Western Digital 500GB SATA drive (media)
1x Hitachi 1TB SATA (media)
1x Seagate 2TB SATA (media)

I am currently using 10.04 and the ATI card onboard is what is hooked to the monitor in the server room.

Before that I was using a PCIe Nvidia Card I think the 8200 or sometthing. You do have to go into BIOS and set up the onboard devices to use the PCIe slot first.
Also, if you are using multiple drives like I am, make sure they are in the correct chained order in the BIOS hard drive setup screen. For some reason, if left to itself the BIOS will not assign the drives based on order of which SATA port it is plugged into. I even had my cables numbered 1 thru 5 using ports 1 thru 5, and it still shuffled them about. But if you go into the BIOS and identify them based on the order you want the system ( and therefore Grub) to see them, manually order the drives.

Currently with the almost latest 10.04 install DVD LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso, the ATI card is functioning well, but this server sits in a closet in my office, if you intend to use it for your main viewing as well as serving PC, keep using your Nvidia card.

Best Rgeards,

Seth

p.s.  If I get a chance this evening, I will post the exact order the graphics choices need to be in, into this post.

Ok Image LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso  http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso

Hybrid/Core install works just fine. Very little downloading. about 35 minutes to AV Wizard.
Core Only install works as well, however if you have tuners in your core and would like to use them for your MythTV. You have to manually configure using mythtv-setup after the fact:
Log into a terminal session:
Code: [Select]
export DISPLAY=:0 startkde
May also need to CTRL+ALT+F7 here to see desktop

After you get the desktop up, Klick K > Applications > System Settings > mythtv-setup

Now the bad news for both methods.

Well there is some good to it. The Nvidia based MD and the intel based MD both fired right up.
Nvidia - flawless execution
intel - when AV Wizard comes up, too big for TV. Solution
1. ssh to core and become user root.
2. Delete /usr/pluto/diskless/XX/etc/X11/xorg.conf  ( where XX is the number of your MD )
3. Return to MD, press key for desired input. 1 = VGA 3 = HDMI

Now for the bad news. Nothing downloads. the following will not start after regen:

External Media Identifier
Mythtv-Player
Xine-Player
Mplayer-Player
Photo-Screen-Saver

And it does not install firefox.

That is all I can report for now, currently running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y on core, following that with /usr/pluto/bin/DisklessCreateTBZ.sh

Nicely done.

I just installed the snapshot http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso

In a VirtualBox inside of my Linux Mint 12 workstation here at work. No network as we are restricted behind a proxy.
Flawless install. Made the mistake of using UI2 masked on an under-achieving hp workstation. After changing it to UI1, nothing but smooth.

I can't wait to try this at home tonight. Now if only there was a way to back up all my IR device settings......

Either way. The above snapshot was perfect.

Excellent work. Now I can see if it will build all my little Foxconn Netboxes, with intel, without me fiddling about with xorg.conf files.

Also my core is an ATI based graphics chipset. But I was planning on core-only install.

Off I go. Home, Supper, Copy all IR codes, Nuke and Pave.......

Hi.

Firstly: /me Drools at four floors of Zwave........

Secondly: Do you happen to have a thermostat in your installation?

If so, was it added during the intelligent mesh layout, i.e. starting at the core and working out geographically?

If not, when was it added, and how far is it from the core?

I added a knock off version of the Wayne Dalton version, but, I added it at the end of my chain. As I did not want to unlearn and relearn all of my devices. It worked well for some time, however I started getting messages like what you are, and my timed scenarios stopped firing. Like at sunset, turn on perimeter lighting, and such.

What I had to do was in fact delete my zwave devices, reset my Aeon Labs stick, and start from scratch, capturing the thermostat geographically from my core.

If you don't have a thermostat, then disregard this mad raving, and go back to the Firstly point, and ignore me  :D

Hope you figure it out.

Best Regards,

Seth

Users / Re: Strange behavior of the "Live TV" function with 10.04
« on: April 11, 2012, 09:51:42 pm »
@ JaseP

No. the LiveTV devices are separate from MythTV. That is why the wife using MythTV on tuner 1 to watch something was the initial issue.

My system is as follows:

2 Dish receivers
2 PVR inputs ( svideo, white, red )

Now. the above resources are used for two different functions.

Function 1: First choices in setup menu
After creating the SAT-1 and SAT-2 AV devices, you go through the setup wizard. Those devices show up  as AV equipment on that screen. The next screen is the Input screen.
There I have listed:
svideo PVR500 card 1
svideo PVR500 card 2
as well as the Composite ( yellow wire ) and the coax

I choose the first svideo PVR500 card 1 and connect it to SAT-1 and make it available to all MD's
then i choose the second svideo PVR500 card 2 and connect it to SAT-2 and make it available to all MD's.

Once this part is completed, If I were to exit the wizard, Media menu Items would be generated for:
LiveTV SAT-1
LiveTV SAT-2

This is completely separate from MythTV.

Function 2 - second choices in setup menu
Now if I were to continue the setup wizard past the above point, then the next windows would ask me for the PVR information.
Here I choose:
SAT-1 controlled by USB-UIRT core for the first tuner it sees
SAT-2 controlled by USB-UIRT core for the second tuner it sees.

Now both the live, non time-shifted SAT-1/2 feeds have an entry
and
I can also use the TV option and get access to time-shifted SAT-1/2.

My problem was, If I was watching LiveTV SAT-1, and the wife fired up MythTV, my screen would go away, and she would take SAT-1 away from me, or rather MythTV would.

The two are not connected.

My issue was SAT-2 pipes were not complete, so LiveTV SAT-2 was just producing a black screen, no audio/video, not unlike if MythTV were to take over that tuner card.

And that in the end fixed me up.

If I remember tonight, I will take a screenshot of my Media Menus, and show you what I am referring to.

Best Regards,

Seth

 ;D
Update. By changing the pipes on device #100, I now have streaming to LiveTV SAT -2.

Was a simple thing to resolve. Sometimes I think too hard when it comes to figuring this system out.

@JaseP,
When a tuner is detected, in my case I have 2 cards, well, one PVR500 which shows up as 2 PVR150s, when you go through initial Sarah time, you can assign receivers to different inputs on any identified cards. When you do this, Sarah creates a "LiveTV < insert name of device >" for each instance.

So after I added my Dish Network receivers, controlled by USB-UIRT on Core, during the setup wizard, when she says "Are there any pieces of AV equipment you wish to use" or something like that, I assign receiver 1 to the first card in my system, and receiver 2 to the second. This causes her to generate a media scenario for a particular MD or, if you click the button to make it available to all MDs, a scenario for each on every MD Media menu. The system however also asks if you want to use them for PVR. So she also rolls them into MythTV or VDR. So not only do you have the TV option on the media menu, but also an option for every piece of AV equipment you define during setup.

If that helps clear things up.

Thanks again for making me stop thinking so hard golgoj4.

Best regards to All,

Seth

Good call golgoj4!

I went in and looked. the first tuner (device 99) has variables defined in pipes.
However we see here that the second tuner (device 100) does not.

See images below.

I will set the second tuner pipes to look like the first, and post back my results. Have to wait a few to reload the router, family is busy utilizing the system at the moment.

Thanks, and Best Regards,

Seth

Users / Strange behavior of the "Live TV" function with 10.04

Hi all. I have recently been finding myself using MythTV less and simply watching the "LiveTV <insert device here>" streams lately.
Here is what I have set up:
I have 2 Dish Network receivers
Receiver 1 - using codeset 1 - hooked into the first s-video/white/red of a PVR500 card.
Receiver 2 - using codeset 2 - hooked into the second or daughter card s-video/white/red of the PVR500.

Now when I select LiveTV-SAT-1 I can see the streaming image of the first receiver no problem. Whatever remote I am using works swimmingly.
But....when I try to watch the second receiver, all I get is a black screen.

Now when I use MythTV, both receivers function well. So it is not a connection issue.

I am wondering where I can look to see why the stream from the second receiver is not playing?

Any insight as to where to start digging would be greatly appreciated.

When the Dish PVR I have direct connected to my Living Room TV is recording two events, the wife might like to watch something while I am watching Game of Thrones, and this would cause a great deal of angst, as I am hopelessly addicted to that show. If she fires up MythTV while I am watching a LiveTV stream from the effective Tuner 1 in my setup, I would lose Game of Thrones, and she would take over the tuner. And she hardly ever uses MythTV so this would be a bad thing.

Thanks in Advance, and as always,
Best regards,

Seth

You should manage your connections at the core level.

Log into your core. Change to user root:

Code: [Select]
sudo -i
Then as root user ssh to the MD. 1st find the MD number, either via webadmin or look in /usr/pluto/diskless. After you have it, and we will use 100 as a random number:

Code: [Select]
ssh moon100
From there you should already be connected as user root, and you can continue from here.

A good place to read:

Developers / Re: Android Scenario Widget

 :o
I just wanted to say. I was looking for something like this for a while. The ability to simply pull up my phone to work the lights in my house, without the need for an orbiter, is truely amazing.

I have already made 2 Desktops full of widgets on my android phone, one for upper level of my home, and one for the lower level of my home.

And my 10.1 inch Archos tablet. Forget about it. I have 2 full screens of widgets on that one, again one for the upper level and one for the lower level.

Amazing stuff here.

Outstanding work.

Seth

It could be that the 11.4 Live Disk partitioned the hard drive using ext4. Perhaps there is some incompatibility there. You could try running the 11.4 disk again, this time choosing to create the partitions using the ext3 file system.

If you have already done this. Please ignore this post.   ;)

You're welcome.
I can not contribute much to this project, but anything I can do to help, I am more than happy to oblige.

Glad it worked for you.

Hi there.
I had this issue as well. Here is what I did to resolve it:

ssh to your core and become root

Code: [Select]
sudo -i
identify your media director number - ls -l /usr/pluto/diskless
ssh moonXX - subbing the X's with number of MD
add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
apt-get install nvidia-current

This will update your nvidia driver to 290, which is what is most current. After this completes it will have unloaded the 260 driver and built the new dkms modules for 290.
When it has completed you will need to reboot the Media Director. However, before you do so, you must prevent LinuxMCE from re-installing the 260 driver.
Do this by editing the file nvidia-install.sh

So while still in the Media Director:

Code: [Select]
vi /usr/pluto/bin/nvidia-install.sh

right below the #!/bin/bash line add - exit 1

keystrokes for those who do not speak vi:

o  (the letter O)
exit 1
press escape
:wq! - shift+colon wq shift+1

Now you should reboot. Upon reboot, you should be good to go. I tested this last night and after playing MythTV for several hours, there was not an artifact to be seen.   ;)

I am running MythTV with VDPAU Normal setting on a Zotac ION Media Director - GeForce 9400M built in over HDMI. Using HDMI audio as well.

Best Regards,

Seth

I will begin a video on my home and LinuxMCE usage this weekend.
I start my Holidays after today, so I will have time to capture many pieces of how I use the system, as well as how it gets used daily by my family, as we are Full-On converted. LinuxMCE is a part of our house.

Cover some media bits, some lighting bits, and some of the cooler media and lighting features of the system.

I will be using one of those digital camcorders, and then I can put them on youtube as well as send you the files directly or put them out on my file server.
Whatever is easiest for you.

I really wish I could come over there and help you, but the $$$ needed to pull it off, are not as easy to come by, this close to Holiday.

Best Regards,

Seth
