Users / version / screensaver
« on: January 20, 2008, 06:44:31 pm »
How can tell what version I am running?  I did the web update to 710 beta 3 and all appeared to go well.  But I read in a thread that there was an option in 710 in the webmin (Files & Media > Screen Saver) that could be used to easily select images for your screensaver.  I do not have that option,  was that bad information or did my upgrade not complete?

On that note, is there a fast way to set the screen saver attribute (command line?) other than on each individual file via webmin?

Thank you.

Any way to adjust the mouse sensitivity?  I seem to be a bit to shaky to make the FIIRE remote work smoothly.

Installation issues / s/pdif output problem
« on: January 16, 2008, 08:01:34 pm »
Greetings,

I'm having issues with the s/pdif output.  I have sound, but all output goes to all 5 channels.

I have a 5.1 receiver and a Diamond Xtreme Sound XS71DDL sound card connect with an optical connection.
Is this an alsa config problem? or maybe a driver?

Thank you.

Users / Digital TV signal in and out?
« on: January 15, 2008, 04:41:36 pm »
Hello,

I currently have an LCD TV hooked up to an antenna and it gets both anaolog and digital signals just fine.  I also have the option on the TV to select either analog or digital to switch between the two.  Of course digital is needed for HD.

Will my current setup still give me the digital signal if I run it through a linuxMCE box using a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE TV card and an nvidia 6200 chipset for a video card (DVI out).

Thank you.

Users / Video problem
« on: January 15, 2008, 04:35:34 pm »
I'm having trouble getting the DVI output to work on my video card.  Things look fine when using VGA, but when I switch over to DVI using the wizard everything is just yellow and hard to see.  I have tried different resolution and frequency combo to no avail.  I also tried both my TV and Monitor with the same results.

The card is a GeForce2,  and doesn't appear to be supported so that could very well be the problem and most likely is.  But I wanted to a make sure I wasn't missing something in the setup?

Thank you.

Users / Yet another video card question
« on: January 15, 2008, 04:24:45 pm »
Probably a dumb question here but here goes...
I'm in the process of picking out a video card, per the boards it sounds like an nVidia 6200 is a pretty safe bet.

Does it matter matter what manufacture makes the card?  Or just the chipset that is on it (nvidia 6200)?
There are quite a few video cards with that specifi chipset on them.

Users / Disable flickr?
« on: January 14, 2008, 10:54:54 pm »
What is the easiest way to remove the filckr pictures from being used by the screensaver.

Is just deleting the files in the flickr folder enough?  or will they get replaced?

I want the screen saver to run with my own pics (which I have figured out) but want to remove all the flickr pics also.

Thank you.

Users / Video card
« on: January 11, 2008, 04:46:47 pm »
Hello,

In the mists of putting together a system and trying to cut costs.  I have a Geforce 2 video card with dvi out.  Can anyone tell me if this card will produce good quality HD video or am I better off upgrading to something more powerful?

I see the Geforce 4 listed in the compatible hardware, maybe the geforce 2 was just never tested and I'm not sure what the difference between the two are.

Thank you.

Users / High Def video
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:50:58 pm »
As I'm researching hardware to put together a linuxMCE box.

I currently have two options. Run a VGA cable to my TV.
Or run an s-video out to my AV reciever.

What will I get the best picture quality from?
Will I get High Def from those outputs?
Do I need to go a different route ?

Users / Sound Card 5.1?
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:36:44 pm »
Probably a dumb questions, but here goes.

In short: How do I get 5.1 sound out of my PC?

I plan on taking the output of my sound card into my receiver.  I have two cards that may work.  One is a standard card with 1 line out jack.  If I'm getting 5.1 sound in through my TV card or from playing a DVD , will I get 5.1 out through the line out on my audio card?
Or do I need a 5.1 audio card?  I do have a 5.1 card also, but it does not have a line out.  Just outputs for each of the 5.1 speakers, which obviously will not work going into my receiver.
Or maybe I need a 5.1 card with a line out jack (something I can't seem to find)?

Thank you.
