Users / VoIP for Internode AUS - Trunk settings
« on: January 20, 2010, 11:12:00 am »
Hi All,

Just a quick FYI - I am sure I am doing this wrong, however it took me ages to figure out so perhaps will be useful for others.

I was able to connect to a VoIP service with Internode Aus using these Wiki instructions http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/How_to_properly_add_support_for_SIP_providers

However I couldn't make any outbound calls until I removed the existing Outgoing Dial Rules in the Trunks section Advanced => Configuration => Phone Setup).

It had a bunch of codes that appeared to be US related (I changed the International Settings in General Settings - this didn't appear to do anything).

I now simply have XXXXXXXXXX in the dial rules - this allows me to dial standard 10 digit numbers.

I expect I will need to update this to be able to make international calls, but for now - this is all I need.

Not sure this is the right thing to do so have not noted in the Wiki...

Cheers,
WR.

Hi All,

Recently installed the 0810 and had a few issues trying to get MythTV to work. Initially it failed to download, then after trying the below code (found in a Viking post via google) I was able to get the MythTV setup option in Computing and Mythweb up and running.

I had to remove some modules first (mythtv common) as it had 0.23 installed and this was conflicting with the mythtv backend it was trying to download. Once I removed it the below seemed to get me most of the way there:

- CORE:
Code: [Select]
apt-get install mythtv-backend=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0 mythtv-common=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0 mythtv-database=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0  mythtv-frontend=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0  mythtv-transcode-utils=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0 libmyth-0.22-0=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0
apt-get install mythweb=2:0.22.0-fixes22785-0ubuntu0

- MD (Hybrid device for me) :
Code: [Select]
apt-get install mythtv-frontend=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0  libmyth-perl=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0 libmyth-python=2:0.22.0-fixes22779-0ubuntu0
This also downgraded the libmyth-perl and libmyth-python that was installed by default.

Now I can record shows via Mythweb and play them back via the Media player within LinuxMCE, but if I try and launch TV via the Media scenarios I get the error:
"I cannot play this media. Perhaps there is not a valid device in this entertainment area capable of playing it."

I figure this manual fix has screwed something up but I am not sure what?

MythTV Player appears as a device under the onscreen orbiter for the hybrid. Is there something else I can do? Ideas, suggestions?

Thanks!
WR

Edit: Incidentally the  sudo /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh is still spitting out the mythtv error:
Code: [Select]
E: Broken packages
#### Package pluto-mythtv-player failed (/tmp/tmp.RNVXu16861) - We wait 10sec and try again - to stop retrying press Ctrl-C.

Editing the source list didn't seem to help (as per Wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Error_Running_Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh)

Installation issues / Wiki DVD Installation Instructions - conflict?
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:43:55 am »
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Talk:Installing_0810

Hi All, I am confused by the DVD Installation Instructions. It advises:

Code: [Select]
Upon DVD boot, select LinuxMCE install(it is the bottom option). This will install a regular Kubuntu 810 system, with an additional button on the desktop to install LinuxMCE upon restart.
Let Kubuntu's  install run through, and after restart, login. Open a terminal and run

sudo su - #This might ask for the password you specified earlier during the install of kubuntu.
apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

But then at the bottom of the page it says:

Code: [Select]
Note: You should NOT run apt-get dist-upgrade after the initial install, as it can cause several problems, including having different kernel versions on your core and media directors, and the installation of new Kubuntu packages that can break some features!
Am I missing something obvious or does this contradict itself? I did the

Code: [Select]
sudo su - #This might ask for the password you specified earlier during the install of kubuntu.
apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Before running the Linxumce icon - now MythTV doesn't appear to be installed or available in computing?

Have I now busted something and should reinstall?

Users / X10 Pro?
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:21:54 am »
Hi All,

I got an email today re X10 Pro. I had not seen it mentioned before. Apparently it has Two Way Communication:
http://www.smarthome.com.au/homeautomation/x10pro.php?utm_source=SmartHome.com.au&utm_campaign=0fb4699e3f-X10ProHDAV121109&utm_medium=email&mc_cid=0fb4699e3f&mc_eid=c910112a89

I see it is available already in the USA:
http://www.smarthomeusa.com/ShopByManufacturer/X-10-Pro/

Anyone used this? How do people feel it measures up to zwave / insteon? Might be a moot point for those of us in Aus as we don't appear to be getting anything else any time soon...

Cheers,
WR.

Installation issues / internet install failed
« on: October 27, 2009, 07:59:38 am »
Hi All,

I tried the Internet install (as per wiki) due to some problems I was having with the Beta DVD install (nvidia drivers etc)...

however after the mce-install.sh I got the following error. Many of the packages downloaded but some didn't. BTW - I have a fast Cable connection (not dial-up despite the 45 hour duration)

Installation issues / 810 Beta - PC no net access?
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:19:21 pm »
Hi All,

Kudos on new Beta! Just trying to setup now (was previously using 0710), having a few probs.

I have dual nics setup and the core has been setup and _does_ have net access (can browse on the hybrid to youtube etc).

I then also have 2 pc's on the network that previously had net accesss. This time - they can connect to the admin page / dcerouter (have IPs 192.168.80.129...130) - but _don't get any net_...

really odd - network seems fine otherwise. Any ideas????

Thanks,
WR.

Users / Disable Audio Loop / Repeat?
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:53:56 pm »
Hi All,

Is it currently possible to disable the audio loop (so media will stop once the playlist ends)?

Try as I might I can't find anything on the forums, wiki or admin page....

This was as close as it came: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4551.0

EDIT: Unless something like this is currently required (in reverse)?

Users / Losing Media sub-type tag
« on: August 20, 2009, 01:27:33 pm »
Something that kept bugging me that I have only just worked out.

When I have a videos tagged with a "Media sub-type" - this data kept disappearing on some files for no apparent reason.

Seems that this happens only on files that do NOT also have a "File format" tag. Once they are also tagged as HD, standard def, DVD etc - they never lose any Media sub-type info.

Does this happen to anyone else? If someone can verify I'll raise it as a bug.

Note: this is in 0710, don't have 0810 installed to test so if this is already fixed...

Cheers,
WR.

Hi All,

I have a b202 setup as an MD @720p (masking) with an LCD monitor, connected via Ethernet, and I have a few minor issues I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on.

1. I have disabled the PSS (Photo Screen Saver) as per these http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_eee_box_b202_setup instructions, but I still get occasional ~5 sec lock-ups when watching standard def video. The video and audio stops (freezes), then it might skip ahead a second or two and continue. Happens about 2-3 times over a 40min video. Do others get this?

2. The monitor doesn't turn off (or enter sleep mode). Ever. "Leave Monitor on for OSD" is un-ticked under My Devices=> Generic PC as MD => OnScreen Orbiter. "Timeout is set to "600,600" if that has any impact. Is there a setting somewhere for this?

3. I have not been able to watch 720p content at all (which is ok because I don't have much :)), stages badly. Have others had any luck with actual HD content?

Thanks :-)

EDIT: I just noticed the main wiki page has this note "Some rare periodic screen freezing though" so number 1 might be normal behaviour...

Installation issues / 0810 Alpha install problems - how long to wait?
« on: July 10, 2009, 09:59:06 am »
Hi All,

I have heard that I should be patient with the install as some parts take a while (servers overloaded?)

Having said that - after take about 3-4 hours to get past this section (after the mce-install.sh)
Code: [Select]
Unpacking pluto-sample-media (from .../pluto-sample-media_2.0.0.44.0901260810_i386.deb) ...

I left it on overnight and the installer appears to be stuck here:
Code: [Select]
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  video-wizard-videos
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 469MB of archives.
After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.
WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
  video-wizard-videos
Authentication warning overridden.
Get:1 http://deb.linuxmce.org intrepid/lmce-alpha-latest video-wizard-videos 1.1 [469MB]

Should I keep waiting or is there something wrong here? Anyone else done an install in the last 24 hours?

EDIT: Note  - internet access it not a problem (Cable and it is working)

Cheers,
WR

Users / INSTEON is coming to Australia...sure but when?
« on: July 04, 2009, 02:53:10 pm »
I noticed this page in my travels:
http://www.smarthome.com.au/homeautomation/insteon/

I sent them an email asking if they actually have any idea WHEN this might happen (or if they are just collecting email addresses). Will post the response for those who may be interested. Unless anyone else here knows something?  ;)

Users / Losing Media sub-type
« on: March 09, 2009, 05:38:56 am »
Hi All,

On a new 0710 install I have found the Media sub-type seems to go missing sometimes. Not sure why. I'll be browsing via Genre and notice something missing and check to find the Movie sub type has been lost on that file.

This has happened to me in the past but I thought this was because I f'd up the database after doing this:http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5570.msg33655#msg33655 (won't do again ;))

Since then I have reinstalled (only kept the home directory) but the problem keep popping up.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Cheers,
WR.

Users / Denon AVR 2307 - house to sleep mode while media is playing
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:55:13 am »
Hey All,

Got myself a Denon AVR 2307 yesterday and was very impressed with the plug and play nature!!! (USB to RS232 cable)  ;D ;D

I did notice some odd behaviour though - hoping someone may be able to assist.

Prob1
I added the  Off command to the AVR under the Stop Media command in "House to Sleep" scenario.

This works (turns the AVR off) but it only _stays_ off if I run the scenario when no media is playing prior to running the scenario...

If I have audio or video playing and run the scenario - the media and amp get turned off, but then about 10sec later the amp comes back on again (not the media)....I tried adding a delay of ten seconds between the stop media and off command - but other than delaying the amp from switching off - it didn't fix the problem (it still comes back on).

When no media is playing - the AVR 2307 stays off when the house to sleep scenario is run.

Prob2
When I select new media, it starts to play immediately - but after a second or so - audio cuts out as Linuxmce seems to reset the Denons outputs. Then starts playing again. This doesn't happen if I change songs in a playlist - but if I load a new playlist or new media it happens every time...

Both problems are pretty minor but annoying no-the-less. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Adriel.

Users / Android device - no net / or core access
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:25:32 am »
Hi Guys,

Was having a quick play with an Android device via WiFi and found that after connecting to WiFi (good signal) I got an IP (192.168.80.245) - but am unable to get net access or browse to the core (192.168.80.1).

I have a Nokia N810 connected on the same network (IP 192.168.80.253) that has not problem with either.

I can't seem to find the WiFi MAC of the device list or in unknown devices. Have I overlooked something obvious or can anyone suggest any troubleshooting? I don't recall having to do anything to get the N810 net access...
 :)

Cheers,
WR
