Feature requests & roadmap / Windows games on an MD
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:05:48 pm »
Hi guys, as we all know (we do, honest, deep down) that one reason for having a computer in the living room is to play on it.
Could this technology be adapted to display (and control) a windows game from a LMCE MD?

That would be "supercool" GoW for PC here I come ;)

Users / Zalman HD160XT revision 3 enclusure
« on: December 07, 2007, 01:48:05 pm »
Anyone have any idea how this enclosure will work for LMCE?
Zalman HD160XT
This particular question has popped up on a Norwegian AV forum, I have seen some references to the version with LCD display Zalman HD160 (not the touchscreen).
This information is all we have found and searches of both the Wiki and forums came up empty.

Users / Autostarting a locally installed MD
« on: November 15, 2007, 06:49:51 pm »
Hi all

I have now done a local install of an MD, but it insist that I login to Kubuntu and start LMCE from the desktop.
Having no clue whatsoever on Linux and autostart (I did search the Kubuntu and Ubuntu forums as well, but found no definitive answer)

In windows (sorry about that) I can set the machine to 'assume' a particular user has logged on (as LMCE does when it runs the core as root), and then autostart the program, say mediaportal.
This machine is planned as an MD in the 'teenager dungeon' and once they get a wiff of Linux they balk (rather dramatically I might add) for some reason (One would have thought protesting against the established Windows platform would be more their way, but I digress...)

I have set it up as a dual boot machine, windows with Mediaportal and Kubuntu with LMCE, the windows sollution works well now (I have somewhat more experience on that plattform), but how can I get the Kubuntu install to automatically run LMCE as Root at startup?
hmmmm

Feature requests & roadmap / Support for non-US letters
« on: November 06, 2007, 04:17:37 pm »
Just would like to ask about the possibility for including support for non US letters
(like æ ø å)
I want the rooms in the house to be listed in the 'local language'

Feature requests & roadmap / Bundle the new Nvidia drivers in an update
« on: September 27, 2007, 01:06:17 pm »
some GeForce 7xxx and 8xxx cards seems to have problem with LMCE as LMCE uses an older driver, is it possible to use bundle the newest driver instead of this older version?
Would solve a great number of problems reported in the "installation issues" section of this forum.
Anyone?

Feature requests & roadmap / Automatic settings backup
« on: September 26, 2007, 10:57:12 am »
I have used the possibility from the admin site to do backups of the settings and storing them on another computer.
Would there be a way to make this automatically?
say once a week, keeping five or six weeks backlog?

I often forget to do the backups when I have to do it manually, and this could save someone a bit trouble when reinstalling.

Users / Lost MySQL database, warning
« on: September 15, 2007, 05:24:04 pm »
I have noticed that the media keeps playing and LMCE keeps responding up to the moment the Media Directors actually shuts down.
I don't know if this is the cause of my trouble, but I did answer a question about a found "fileserver" at the moment the Core shut down. (I know this is not a smart thing to do, but I wanted to test)
I am speculating that this may have corrupted the MySQL database as LMCE never did reboot after this, just came a message that it couldn't connect to MySQL.

Any answers, tips, similar experiences?

Users / Fiire. com products
« on: August 27, 2007, 04:03:56 pm »
I have a couple of questions about the Fiire products, but the website refers questions about their products here.
Well, I'll give it a go.

I am really considering going the "hard" way and order a Fiire station and a Chief.
There are however a few considerations since I do live in Europe (Norway to be precise).

What's the frequency band for the Fiire remote, and is it legal in Europe?
There are rules that normally will not let me use US equipment with transmitters, even some channels on wireless LAN.

I would think, but would like to be certain, that the Fiire products are compatible with 230V?

And what would be the referer reference for Paul, so that if I do buy, he get's a piece of the cake?

Feature requests & roadmap / File finding without being DHCP
« on: August 16, 2007, 09:35:03 am »
Hi guys

Just a thing that has really bugged me with LMCE.
Can we please get an option to just navigate to a folder on the network and mark it as a "medie folder" for LMCE?
That is how all the other portals work (Xlobby, Media portal, Itunes +++) and would be much simpler than having the LMCE as DHCP (atleast for me it would)
When LMCE detects shares on it's own it pops up several irrelevant (I know it doesn't know they are irrelevant until I tell it) hits, and it can get a bit much as I really only need it to find three specific folders on a Samba share (music, pictures and movies).

Users / Would Zonbu work as a MD?
« on: August 07, 2007, 12:46:28 pm »
I was wondering if this smartish device would work well as a media director for Linux-MCE
(and if it has 120/230V input, not just 120V)

Users / Uninstalling the Beta
« on: August 01, 2007, 09:45:08 am »
Sorry guys, I'm very new to Linux, but..
I noticed that the ability to add/remove programs (both the ways I had found how to do it) disappeared when I installed the release candidate.
So... How do I uninstall LinuxMCE, or do I need to do fresh install of Kubuntu AND the forthcoming release?
