I am not sure about the cause of sluggish playback - but can you take a look at /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages to see if there are any errors from drivers during playback.

tthaulow, this looks like a bug in 'xorg settings fixer' script that causes wrong ModeLine to be put - can you quote this ModeLine here, so it can be checked?

Autodetection of aspect ratio should be present in Xine player, when you do not get correct aspect ratio, this means it failed for certain movie :) This generates an idea that it would be nicer to have ability to change the aspect ratio 'on fly' - and override the AR when it is set to wrong value.

Xine natively supports auto aspect ratio detection.

Looks like Xine doesn't detect the correct ratio for these recorded movies. If you are experienced with Linux, can you try to play the same recorded video say, with Kaffeine and see if it will do auto-detect correctly. If it does detect it OK, please provide the version of libxine installed (in console you can do

dpkg -s libxine1 | grep Version

for this). If it doesn't detect, then this means the current libxine is just not capable to detect them (and should be considered as a bug - in which case we will ask you to provide a sample of such video file for checking :)

The xine-ui keybindings won't work becase LinuxMCE Xine Player is a custom application built on top of xine-lib, not on top of xine-ui

Zoom functionality is planned to be present in the LinuxMCE 1.1, but it is not available in beta 2.

A/V sync is not planned to be present in LinuxMCE 1.1, so this is probably 1.2 feature-list plan.

This seems to be a problem in verification of your Xorg settings. Please you try to do the following:

1) before pressing "Yes" in dialog box, save your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to some other place (and please post it here so we can check it)
2) after pressing "Yes", also save the 2nd copy of /etc/X11/xorg.conf to some other place (and also please post it here)
3) try to reboot - if your graphics is broken, restore /etc/X11/xorg.conf from 1st copy and reboot again (this should correct any wrong graphics changes made), so you won't need to reinstall

Also, what video card do you have?

This is something really weird...  Can you try to open some webpage on your computer at this time to see if it also loads slowly?

From console, you can run "fglrxinfo":

$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1700
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6334 (8.34.8)

Note that in the last line you can see the version of driver (8.34.8 in this case). If you see something like "Mesa" as vendor/renderer, then probably you don't have driver installed correctly.

Users / Re: Separating asterisk and mysql from the core

Not sure, if this will work for all the pieces of LinuxMCE (it should, if all pieces are using the same config), but here is how to move the LinuxMCE MySQL DB to other host (from host1 which is Core to host2 which is your heavy machine): the DB that is used by LinuxMCE is specified in /etc/pluto.conf, so you can move DB and reconfigure LinuxMCE:

0) stop the inuxMCE if it is running
1) on host1 backup database 'pluto_main'
2) on host1 backup configuration file /etc/pluto.conf
3) copy backup of 'pluto_main' DB to host2 and restore DB there
4) edit the /etc/pluto.conf to change the values of MySqlHost, and username/password if they are different; verify that you can connect to DB on host2 it from host1
5) stop the mysql server on host1
6) start LinuxMCE and see if it still works

note that if you have extra M/D (media directors), you probably need to change their configuration file also

Don't know about Asterisk..

Installation issues / Re: Why does LinuxMCE only work on crappy TV's?
« on: March 27, 2007, 08:53:23 pm »
Have you tried to access the LinuxMCE admin site? There you can go to 'Media Directors', and in 'Video Settings' there should be line like "1280 720/60"  -- this is for 1280x720 @ 60Hz. Try to set your native resolution - then save and reboot box with it.

As far as I know, original PlutoHome system from which LMCE was recently forked supports only i386 arch, so LMCE got the same properties... Note that this doesn't mean that you can't run LMCE on your AMD64 CPU-powered box - this is all about the version of Ubuntu, not CPU name. So, if you have Ubuntu with i386 architecture - you can install LMCE. I also hope the AMD64-arch version of LinuxMCE will appear soon, but have no idea when it happen  :)

Hi!

It seems that something wrong with DCERouter and it either crashes or doesn't start at your box. Do you have any coredumps in /usr/pluto/coredumps/ folder?

If you still have this problem, please do the following:

1. Check if process DCERouter is still running
2. Look at the last ~100 lines of /var/log/pluto/DCERouter.log to see what is said there, especially if there are some error messages

Users / Re: Why the split?
« on: March 19, 2007, 07:15:27 am »
Hi!

- I found the following article, describing the goals of split: History of LinuxMCE
- As far as I can see, LMCE is a fork of PlutoHome, so it has all the features (i.e. core/router/orbiters), so it is definitely not a 'souped MythTV'

Installation issues / Re: 64 bit version of the installer?
« on: March 19, 2007, 07:08:10 am »
I don't think that 64-bit version is available :( If you want to try LinuxMCE, you can install it in parallel with your existing system, you just need to get some free space on your drive :)
