Installation issues / Re: Can't start A/V Wizard
« on: July 31, 2007, 04:27:12 pm »
I want to change the resolution from 640/480 to ANYTHING higher. I try to do it and it says the machine will restart and the wizard will begin after it boots up. It hangs with a black screen when it tries to boot up. Then i have to reset the machine and when it boots back up, no wizard. Can i change the xorg.conf and get it to work that way and not using the wizard. I have an nVidia 7300 GT card....i have read the 6 series cards are work....could the 7 series be the problem?

Hi!

I had the similar issue - in my case it was happening because I had display connected to VGA, but the AVWizard somehow was outputting by default to DVI. Maybe you have the same issue: have you seen the following step: http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/AVWizard_running_steps  - note the text If instead of AV Wizard you see black screen or "no signal" message on display, try to switch the connector type as it is described in section II  -- this will allow you to press number to specify connection type VGA, DVI etc. In my case, I pressed "2" to choose VGA and after couple of seconds blinking, the AVWizard restarted with outputting to VGA connector. :)

(the option to change UI type from LM is gone now - it was creating many problems)

Press "Change resolution" button on "Video" tab of LM -- the AV Wizard should start on the next reboot, and you can select another UI type there. Alternatively, you can simply keep "Shift" pressed during boot of system, and it should also run the AV Wizard.

Installation issues / Re: MCE installer problems

hmm, it seems you don't have gksu installed: try to run
apt-get install gksu
from Konsole or install it using Adept package manager

- Second, the workaround I used with beta2 to have video, music and pictures didn't work right as it only founds half a duzen videos, one song and no pictures. The covers for the found movies are not there either.

Hi!

not sure if you posted this already in some thread.. can you please describe again the issue with video, music and pictures you have and workaround that worked and stopped working now.

Regards.

Hi!

Regarding 2nd issue: can you try run from console the: /usr/pluto/bin/UpdateAvailableSerialPorts.sh    (it should run quickly). After this, reload the router and then try to see in Web-Admin if there are any changes in ports list. There is a recently detected issue with not always updating serial ports list, so maybe you has the same problem.

I know about another effort to build an Orbiter for Maemo platform. Please consider this link, maybe it will save your time: http://smart-home-blog.com/writes/nokia770-as-plutohome-orbiter-os2006/

For start, please try to open Konsole and start "top" or "htop" there with sorting by CPU usage (press "P" for this). Then press "start core" and check in top/htop which processes are using CPU intensively during core startup.

Users / Re: DVD iso playback?
« on: July 11, 2007, 04:06:39 pm »
There is no such script - the playback is done by 'Xine_Player' which is LMCE application  (DCE device) that is built using xine-lib library for playback. One of the reasons why LMCE doesn't support playback of copied 'VIDEO_TS' folder is that in this case UpdateMedia files watching app would scan all files inside and mark them as separate media file - definitely not the result you want :)

I would suggest you to convert the VIDEO_TS folder into one .dvd file as it was described above.

bobpaul: right, but it _kills_ Xserver, so this is not good thing if there is some document open, etc. :)

If I understand correct, then you should tweak your xorg startup parameters:
in file /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc  find line like
ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp
and change it to
ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp -dpi 92
or some other value instead of 92

Note that you must restart KDM after doing it. The easiest way will be just reboot the box

Try to disabled firewall via web-admin interface - the firewall may prevent HDHomeRun device from being discovered by MythTV.

Indeed, screenshot looks bad :) I suggest to wait for the beta 3, where aspect ratio change function should become available. Also, to my knowledge, beta3 will contain a fix for detection of display (i.e. monitor, TFT panel, etc.) aspect ratio. Hope this will solve AR issue.

Any previous experience with HDTV on this box? E.g. was it playing in Windows, if you tried - or in some other Linux distro, etc.
