Hmm... to me it looks like your soundcard was not recognized by the Kubuntu 0710 drivers... If you have some time to experiment, can you download the Kubuntu 0710 ISO from here: http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php#latest  , burn it to the CD, reboot it to start Live CD and check if sound is there. If it is not, then probably you will need to install later ALSA sound drivers - especially if you have a modern soundcard :) If Kubuntu 0710 itself has a sound, try to "Stop LinuxMCE" from the LaunchManager and see if KDE sound works now. It could be a conflict between sound apps in LinuxMCE (SimplePhone, Xine_Player, etc.) - but this happens not so often...

Developers / Re: Are Java geeks welcome here?

Indeed, every piece of code is welcomed :) And there is no (hopefully!) language-wars people here. Please feel free ask questions about the arch - this is always a good start. If you haven't read the wiki - read it, as there is a lot of information on the system arch (some pages can be outdated, so don't trust it 100% - LMCE is a live system, so things could change).

By the way, if I recall correctly, the 0710 betas does install java vm by default :)

Installation issues / Re: codecs mixup

I think this is a coincidence - both extra packages are not related to the MythTV at all (unless MythTV is evolved since the last time I saw it :). You can try to remove the DVDCSS and W32Codecs from the Add Software menu and see if it resolved your issue. But I doubt it is related.

I don't know if have Windows at all, but take a look at this post: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=1232.msg27536#msg27536

where finsdown uses windows tool Ripit4me to rip the DVD with the similar issues. And please read my comment below regarding the using folderlocks when copying the ripped DVD folders to LinuxMCE to prevent UpdateMedia from scanning half-copied folder.

Installation issues / Re: Problem with xine-playback

Hmm... Looks like Orbiter doesn't position the Xine window well (generall Orbiter does all the positioning - and keeps the right window on the right layer, etc. etc.). What version of 0710 you use? beta4 or some earlier one? And how many desktops do you have?

Added a Wiki article describing a way to turn off UpdateMedia scanning of the certain folder: Folder lock, also with a redirect from Prevent UpdateMedia from scanning certain folder

Hope this will be useful.

LinuxMCE should treat the folder containing the VIDEO_TS or the AUDIO_TS as the ripped DVD - just tested this, and it should work. So, if you e.g. have the folder structure:

Matrix/
  AUDIO_TS
  VIDEO_TS

And you copy the full folder Matrix to the LinuxMCE folders (like /home/public/data/videos), then UpdateMedia should detect it and mark as DVD with the name "Matrix" (taken from the top-folder name).

I would also recommend to use the "folder lock" when copying this example "Matrix" folder:
- create the folderlock before copying
- copy it completely
- remove the folderlock

More info about folder locks here:

I updated the Mantis issue - looks like the mounting problem. Will post an update tomorrow - maybe there will be more info.

Users / Re: Can I watch ogg video files under LMCE ?
« on: March 20, 2008, 01:12:57 pm »
As the OGG is associated with the "audio" files, I would suggest you to change extension of video files to the OGM. This extension is recognized by the LinuxMCE as "stored video file" so you should see them in the Video(s) list. Of course this is a workaround, as the correct solution would include the "probing" files to analyze their contents. This will probably be implemented later.

If the DVDCSS is installed on the M/D and the files _are_ playable on the Core, then M/D must be able to play them. Unless there is something wrong. What I remember is that http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ChangeLog_0710_Beta4 contains the following fix:

• Cleaning list of installed Add Software applications if M/D was reinstalled

Because when M/D is reinstalled, all the Add Software is deleted => but it appears as installed on the M/D (which is wrong). So since beta4 this shouldn't be an issue.

Another possible problem is some ugly bug in network layer which corrupts the DVD ISO when it is read via network. But I doubt it is an issue.

Anyone with this issue - can you send me PM with RemoteAccess code for your system so I can take a look at this bug?

There is feature request logged for this issue, so at some moment it will be implemented :)

Like a temporary solution, you consider installing one of the podcast fetching tools, like
podget - Podcast aggregrator/downloader optimized for cron
podracer - podcast aggregator/downloader
hpodder - Tool to scan and download podcasts (podcatcher)

and setup it download your *-casts to the place where LinuxMCE can find them and add the invocation of the tool to the cron for regular execution.

There are some 'smallish' vdr files on our .34 Core but they may still be too big...ping me tomorrow and I will record say a 30 sec segment for you and you can grab a copy for testing ;-)

OK :)
