Pluto Main General Issues / Problem in installation - hangs downloading
« on: February 07, 2007, 12:16:15 am »
@RoyN

I would recommend waiting until the next release date before assessing pluto as the 2.0.0.43 version has many issues due to some bugs that were introduced during the current releaase.

We don't have an actual date for the next release but hopefully it is imminent given the wide range of issues experienced by the user base.

Previous releases although containing the occasional bug have proved what a great product Pluto is, so it is worth the wait

Pluto Main Installation & IR codes / .44 on ftp site
« on: February 06, 2007, 11:31:55 pm »
If you go to the ftp site you can dl .44...why they don't post or answer questions is anyones guess.  This is some sweet software but support is very lacking!  I know it is free but compared to some of the other stuff out there...trixbox...asterisk...mythtv...seems to be much better supported.  I sent in a suport question and after about 12 days I get back the response "We don't know it doesn't happen here"...come on guys, if you are going to give that type of response at leaste give it the same day!  Sorry to rant but a little frustrated.  I can't seem to find any type of operations guide to tell me how to ff or rw or do anything while wathing video's...this is some basic stuff I need to know.

Eventually I got it working.... It took a few retries of the full install, and it went through.... probably some intermittent problems at the time I was attempting the install! sorry for wasting forum space... anyways, I'm eager to try this out! it looks very nice and I can't wait to get it all working!

Pluto Main Installation & IR codes / First-Time Install - Lots of questions

Not sure if this'll help, but I noticed a problem with the AV Wizard when dual monitors were connected.  Also, not sure if you're connecting via DVI or VGA, but if one isn't working you might want to try the other.

Pluto Main Installation & IR codes / First-Time Install - Lots of questions
« on: February 06, 2007, 07:43:11 pm »
I have tried the reintall approach numerous times. My problem is i am installing on a hybrid so that computer is also my only (atm) media director. So on the initial startup when the av wizard starts up i get a black screen after the first step in the wizard. I left the thing over night to see if it just took a while to regenerate the screens but that didn't work. So is there a way i can skip the wizard? You know do all my settings manually? I don't really know how to do what you are suggesting if it black screens me before i ever get an actual media director. I am going to install .41 which i have read was fairly stable and see if that works. any help would be great. Cheers.

I had actually tried quite a few combinations and nothing seems to work. In fact when I try to hit the esc key to go back nothing happens either. At one point i did catch a quick glimpse of what i *think* was the same error message posted above. I guess i should have specified that i am using an ATI card.

A Little more info: I am relatively new to linux but i am learning fast, i had read the topic about yttron being down, so i edited sources.list thinking that might have something to do with the issue. I did apt-get update to make sure and it seemed that everything was installed correctly. Then i attempted installing without a connection as was also suggested, the same black screen occurs when i choose resolution.

System: Hybrid

Intel Pentium 4 2.66GHz
1 GB Ram
ATI Radeon 9700
Soundblaster Audigy 2

Hi again,

You could try going into Web Admin Wizard-> Devices-> Media Directors and manually setting the resolution/refresh for you monitor. Otherwise it might be worth re-installing!

Pluto Main General Issues / Problem in installation - hangs downloading
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:59:00 pm »
Hi,

I'm having a bit of trouble installing Pluto... I'm doing a hybrid test install, the linux part installs, it prompts me for the extras cd and everything it copies files, and then it opens the cd drive with the extras cd, and says "Get:1 http://deb.plutohome.com 20dev/main pluto-std-plugins 2.0.0.43...... (33.5MB)" and it just hangs for a while and then times out.... If I press enter after the time outs, it just goes on with a bunch of "not found" messages, and when it restarts it boots into linux, then when it appears to try starting pluto it just errors and says "waiting for '5 minutes" and doesnt do anythig... I'm trying for the second time to re-install and it just hanged on the Get:1 thing....

am I doing something wrong? is the deb.plutohome just offline for now? is there a way to go back and continue the setup from where it times out? cause each time right now I just re-installed the whole setup...

Just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong...

thanks a lot!

I'm another 3rd gen Symbian user with a couple of questions.

First., I see that the my OS will not work as an orbiter yet.  I did however expect that it would see and make the bluetooth connection to the phone automatically.  Is it doing this because it does not recognize it as something it can run on?

Some more information: The MD has recognized the bluetooth dongle and when searching for devices I see something called "moon77-0" (77 being the device id for my MD).  So it is out there, it's just not connecting.

I do not have the Pluto_S60.sis file on my core.  Has this file been removed from the latest builds?

thanks

I have just installed .43 on a single core hybrid. As soon as i pick a resolution and refresh rate then click "ok" i get a black screen that never goes away. Any thoughts? is this the same issue? From what i have read .43 seems to have some issues that slipped through the cracks. Cheers.

Hi,

Yes .43 has quite a few 'gotchas' that slipped through the release process!

It sounds too me from what you describe that the resolution/refresh you are selecting in the AV Wizard is not acceptable to your monitor. You should be able to hit the 'escape' key when this happens which should return you to the screen where you choose the resolution/refresh... then you can try another combination and see if that works. We usually find that 800x600 (4:3) at 60Hz is acceptable to most monitors - give that a try.

Hope this helps you!

hi Darren

sorry about your install, we know that many of you suffered when this release was made public. everything went good with testing inside but when was made public there was some differences in repositories. that was fixed but the damage is already done.
we're not planning a release this week, hopefully 44 will go out by the end of next week.

Dan

Some of us are still finding out the hard way.  For the past 10 days and now (as I write this) .43 is listed as the lastest version.  Why not pull it down and put up a note saying .43 was a "development release" not intended for production use?  I have wasted my time and your bandwidth to download a useless build.

What I don't get, is if a stable .43 release exists, why not release it 10 days ago as .43a or .44?

Since we were hoping for the end of last week, do we have a new date in mind?

Has any one used this Tuner/Decoder card with Pluto.

Thanks

some history on this issue.....

http://plutohome.com/support/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1086

I am using a M2NPV-VM motherboard.
For other people this motherboards works OK (don't know which Pluto version).

The core has a single core cpu, I am using the TV out (also tried the VGA with my PC monitor), but I only get a mouse pointer that I can move on a black screen. I am using the non-smp kernel. Even if I let the core sit for some hours (0.43 fatal issue) to update itself and reboot, it still does not show any graphical stuff.
It shows at boot that it is building the pages and renders the AV wizard but nothing is shown.

I tried many different resolutions and UIs but nothing works, still black screen with white mouse pointer (the screen when changing resolutions from the webserver is shown OK).

What can I do? The video card seems to work??
What should I search for and in which logs to see what is wrong.
