Installation issues / Re: 10.04 DVD install experience
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:41:31 pm »
It is much smaller now, but 2.1 sounds too small. Check the md5sum.

md5sum LinuxMCE-1004-beta-1.iso and check the result against
61a0ad71aca775bc4ed711573cfe6d4c

Always check this when downloading snaps.
http://linuxmce.iptp.org/release/     will show 3 kinds of files. The iso, the md5sum and the zsync file.

Zsync is very cool btw. If you have a snapshot already, you change the name to the one you are getting, and then zsync the online file. This process also will not show complete until it checks the md5sums for you. If you do not have a snapshot you can also zsync from scratch. This will never complete until there is a perfect duplicate of the online file. It also resumes downloads, of course, should yours be interrupted for whatever reason.

I am doing a zsync now. I have not yet tested the beta DVD. I will report back... though others are expressing smooth installs.

What was the error? Did you press enter at boot: ?

Thanks l3mce it was indeed the file I had downloaded - Just grabbed it again and it is the right size and check sum so I will burn it tonight and install...

Oh another small Q - Is it ok to do an install without internet connection? I only have 3g on my Galaxy S3 which I can tether via USB if necessary but not sure if it works!

The new installer has everything bundled together. It SHOULD be booting... without a doubt. It boots to our custom installer.

The first thing that should happen is it sits there at a prompt that says

boot:

Where you press enter, and then select the type of install you want to do. I am going to write a wiki page I guess. I will return with a step by step. In the mean time, please explain exactly what happens when you try to boot the DVD. Have you checked the md5sum?

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_1004#DVD_Installation

I boot up with the dvd in and it throws an error straight after "H. Peter Anvin boot:"
What size should the install .iso be? after downloading I noticed it was only 2.1 GB on the harddrive so maybe im missing something?

Ok so this may seem like a noob question but it's been a while since I did an install . I just downloaded the beta iso of 1004 and before when I burned an install to a dvd it had kubuntu bundled with it . . . Is this not the case anymore ? I hope I did something wrong as the dvd  I just burned does not boot so I was thinking  I must of missed a step ? Sorry in advance it's been a while

Congrats to all involved, great team work.

I am now downloading 1004 for testing and I notice the size is smaller than usual snapshots (2.54GB), Is this correct?

Users / System with no connection to outside world!
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:05:55 pm »
So im looking to setup a system in a very remote location where it is impossible to get a connection to the outside world (3g maybe!)

anyhow what I want to know is will the system still operate without an "external" router?

Oh and will I be missing stuff like updates etc even if I take the final release of 810?

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Control PLC with LinuxMCE?
« on: March 29, 2011, 05:19:12 pm »
Really interested in this post as I do a good deal of work with PLC's and OPC servers.
OPC is a really good option as it can make alot of different makes of equipment "talk" to each other.
Also you can buy PCB devices that you can get any type of data out via OPC http://embeddedlabs.com/servermodule.html

I am interested in the PLC programs that Fedex Guy has as I would love to see how he is doing this.
A good option I reckon for a PLC would be Allen Bradley Micrologix. It has the serial port and an ethernet port and you can expand the IO with various add-on cards.

I reckon if this method was explored it would be a great advantage to the LinuxMCE system.

Installation issues / Snapshots reduced in size and also 1004 Q?
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:01:49 pm »
Hi all,

I was looking at the snapshots today and noticed that they are now building at around 2.2 gig instead of the usual 3.8 gig!!
Is there something up with the build?

On a seperate note, i see that 1004 has now begun....is 810 still not in beta? what are the advantages of moving to 1004?

I can see some of skeptic points are valid but telling one of the main coders that the project is better off without him is not going to help the project grow. This project is by far the best all-in-one package I have ever come across.

The only complaint I would have is that it is very very hard to get started with helping you guys in some of the coding as people coming from a non linux background find it hard to setup the project from source...(i still have not managed to follow the instructions) so maybe a bit more help is needed in that area, then when people get setup they will gladly be able to contribute!!

P.S. I love the PXE booting option so I for one would hate to see that go!!

Does the new version fix the issue of not being able to tune a channel using a coax feed?
