Installation issues / Making Raid storage the default storage
« on: November 12, 2011, 12:28:36 am »
Hi guys,

Total noob here.

Would you please be so kind to point me out how to start using my raid block as primary storage?

Just installed MCE on drive "a" and added a Raid5  block "b".

Now when I navigate from the tv screen into media>manage drives I am unable to see the raid storage.

However, from the admin website I am able to see the the block when I go to Advanced>Configuration>raid.

Also do I need to create certain folder structure or can I use my own?

I successfully installed 8.10 last night. Too many years waiting but it's worth it.

I have some teething issues but I'll post elsewhere.

Hi guys,

I would like to ask you if 8.10 is relatively stable these days?

If it is, I would like to give it a go but if it isn't I'd like to wait until an RC is launched as I don't believe I'll have the knowledge to fix something if I run into trouble.

Best regards

D

Mate,

Do your research and it is valid to make as many q's as you want.

Some LinuxMCE gurus expect you to be at their level and can be a bit rude at you. Don't get dissapointed, they work hard for their product.

Some are more DTE.

For my part I had the same problem. The ones that seem proven are no longer available and of course there is a huge range of untested mobos.

I bought an ASUS P5n7a-vm after reading the mainboards area that there was no problems with it.

Sadly, after buying it a number of posts appeared about having problems. I haven't been able to get it off the ground with 7.10.

Having said that, I installed kubuntu 8.10 without trouble. I am happy to wait right now as I have bigger fish to fry at work.

Good luck!

Is it really that hard to read the few posts in this thread?

No  its not hard.... I just want to make sure. Not being an IT profesional I just want to double check.

I trade dervivatives for a living I'm sure you'll get them in 5 min too. How's your 401k? I'm sure you understand every single part of it and don't need to ask obvious things as they are clearly written in the prospectus... don't ya?

Not all of us were born with linux in our veins... but I'm getting there.
   ;D

Thanks

Well I understand that all that money nonsense where people earn big amounts without producing or contributing anything is a huge fraud, and that's all I need to know about it.  Other then that... what possy said.

Not everyone earns the millions shown on cnn... otherwise I would buy a pluto appliance... I just wanted to exemplify that something simple and apparent to you may not be that simple and apparent to the rest of the world.

Zaerc....In the end.... Do you think I will need to wake up on lan if it is a hybrid box? Im sure that a "LinuxMCE God" will know.

Simple "probably yes" or "probably no" answer.

Thanks mate.

Thanks mate... I've been researching form many moths. The mobo's that do seem to work are obsolete the others...

Totallymaxed reports that his works both as a core and as a MD..... I pesume that id will do as a hybrid too.

BUT

Someone have stated some  have problems waking the mobo via the Lan.
A third one said that it will be their core therefore that doesn't bother them.

I plan to build a hybrid is that problem relevant to me?... I presume it doesn't since I can't think a scenario where I will need wake up on lan.

But

It is my first box and there may be one such scenario so lets ask the kind members of the forum

It may be dumb but to me is not evident nut to someone more qualified it may be an I/O question.

Don't want to offend anyone I'm just LinuxMCE illiterate..

thanks mate

Guys,

Is this good for a hybrid?

Just confirming the obvious but if something fails I'll have a hard time finding/fixing the problem.

It must be trouble free.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I know this is probably the wrong forum but I will be the right audience.

Which Mobo (trouble free and currently being produced) can you recommend me to build my first hybrid? The ones listed in the newbie hybrid pack are long gone...

I read a post that said that rather than models we should probably concentrate in chipsets, north/south bridge, and graphic capabilities.

Happy to put my time and effort to research if you point me in the right direction. I would probably preferr 7.1 audio and at least 4 sata ports.

Thanks.

Users / Newbie q: does linux mce can work as a file/print server?
« on: November 06, 2008, 01:10:54 am »
Hi guys,

I am a total newbie and I am currently considering building a core.

As I want a minimal number of computers turned on 24/7 I would like to know if MCE can double as a file/print server.

I would like to achieve the following:
+ have my own space on the RAID system to store my files (different fro media) and be able to access them from any computer (e.g the raid system would appear as a drive while at home)
+ be able to access my files while on the road.
+ connect my printer to the core and be able to print wireless from my laptop.

I would also like to know how complicated it is as I am really a newbie. A couple of months ago someone introduced me to Ubuntu and I'm loving it but the learning curve has been steep.

Thanks so much.

Users / MSI K9N2 Diamond
« on: June 14, 2008, 10:49:06 am »
Hi,

I am trying to build a Hybrid.

As per the hardware section I have tried to find a MSI MS-7329 motherboard but it seems to be out of production.
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodpage2&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171

Has anyone tried the MSI K9N2 Diamond?

This will be my first approach to Linux mce and will like a hassle free journey.

Otherwise could anyone please recommend me a hassle free, full feature, scalable motherboard?

Much appeciated.
