Users / Setup Wizard Av devices
May 06, 2012, 08:23:30 PM
While going through the Setup wizard, I browsed through the A/V devices  listed.
Now I noticed that some devices are listed in white and others in red. Any particular reason for this?
Samsung TV as an example;
LN-Txx6xF is listed in red
HP-S5053 is listed in white.

Users / Prevent other users to delete files
January 08, 2012, 08:16:15 AM
Hi Guys,

Is there a way to prevent users to delete files using an orbiter?
I.e when chosing a movie to watch, there are options :
Play, Move, Delete, Close.

I dont want other users to be able to delete or move files.

PS. My 2 step boys (5 & 8) accidently deleted some movies...... Wife not happy....  :(

Hi All,

Im trying to install 1004, but Im doing something wrong. Some items have unmet dependencies. Even when trying to install manually.
dcerouter_1024512:/var/log# apt-get install pluto-avwizard
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pluto-avwizard: Depends: pluto-xine-player (>= 2.0.0.45) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: pluto-xine-player (< 2.0.0.46) but it is not going to be installed
PreDepends: libxine2 (>= 1.1.90) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
dcerouter_1024512:/var/log#

There are several other packages too.
I attached the Setup log to.

Any ideas?

Hi All,

I havent done an update for a while now, 4months. So I thought it was time to do one. so I did an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.Dowloaded about 490mb of updates. I rebooted after update and now my core is in a loop. It keeps on rebooting.
Just after Stopping NTP server there is a message ERROR 2002 cannot connect to local mysql server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock and then it reboots.

Anyone had this before?

Users / Clipsal interface on LinuxMCE
October 22, 2010, 08:34:56 AM
Hi guys,

Im based in South Africa, and alot of the equipment is not locally available. So I cannot really expand my setup.
Currently I have X10 running, but to my suprise the insurance company is giving me a hard time. Its not SABS aproved. And I noticed that if I switch the lights of at the wall switch, WebAdmin indicates that the status of the light is still on.

So I started looking at Z-wave, but once again its not locally available.
On the other hand though, Clipsal products are available in SA. SABS aproved, but more exspensive. I dont mind spending the extra bucks, but I dont wanna get it and then I hit a brick wall.

There is a Wiki though
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Here_is_a_detailed_example_of_how_to_add_Clipsal_Interface_using_Generic_Serial_Device.

So my questions are:
Is Clipsal compatible with LinuxMCE?
Was anyone able to get the Clipsal interface working?

I dont mind digging in and getting it working if it is posible....

Users / New UI1 Orbiter skin
September 07, 2010, 11:37:11 AM
Hi All,

Im creating a new UI1 Orbiter skin. I got a few pointers from the Devs, but I want to hear what the users would like to have in a Orbiter skin.
My way of contributing back to the project.  ;D
I'm learning as I go along with the Orbiter skin design. The first time I opened HA Designer I thought WTF!? What do I do and Where?!
But then I stumbled across TSchak909's screencasts that explained alot about how HA Designer works.

The screencasts;
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5732.0
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5059.0

How to install HA designer;
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_HADesigner

When Im done with this Orbiter skin, I will make it available to all.
Any advice, pointers and suggestions welcome, however the end result might not include some of the suggestions.

I've attached some screenshots for thus far. I do this in my part time in the evenings, so it might be another few weeks from completion.

Installation issues / Core/Hybrid delayed movie start
August 30, 2010, 09:01:41 PM
Hi All,

If I start a movie thats stored on my core/hybrid, their is about a 45sec delay before the movie starts.
Example, I choose the movie to start, the tv connected to the core/hybrid goes black for about 45sec and then the movie starts.
But on my MD the movie starts to play immediately.

Users / Intergrate existing alarm system into LinuxMCE
August 16, 2010, 11:22:43 AM
Hi All,

I want to link my existing alarm system to LinuxMCE. What do I need to look at to know if this would be possible?
Use the existing alarm panel, PIR ect......
What is the requirements of an alarm system to be able to connect to LinuxMCE?

HI All,

I've got my Core/Hybrid running with 1MD. Now i wanna start playing with Ip Cameras. Im Based in South Africa and I can get Ip cameras
cheaper from a local distributor (Im employed by an IT company) than sourcing them from ebay. Now I dont wanna waste my time and money by purchasing the incorrect Ip camera that is not compatable with LinuxMCE. On the Wiki there is not a wide variety of supported ip cameras.

1. Can any ip camera be used as an "Generic Camera"?
2. From the Wiki i read that "Zoom" is not supported?
3. Pan and tilt functions -- are these only applicable when you manually pan and tilt the camera from an orbiter or can it be setup to auto pan and tilt
when one of the sensors are triggered?
4. If the camera has built-in mic can it be utilized as a sound sensor?

I can get Edimax and Vivotek ip cameras, but as per this topic http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8915.0 it seems that I wont get the Vivotek camera working?
Any suggestions?

Thanx in Advance

Installation issues / zotac mag hd-nd01 as MD
June 20, 2010, 12:44:28 PM
Hi All,

I'm trying to get a Zotac mag hd-nd01 up and running as a MD.
Sat the whole day with it yesterday from 10am to 11pm. From what I've read on the forum and wiki today it might be the NIC thats not loaded properly. But it went through the initial boot and setup, rebooted and loads. Shows the "KUBUNTU" with blue progress bar, then when the AVWizard is suppose to start, just a black screen. Conected via VGA and HDMI. Rebooted the MD again same thing. Black screen.
Deleted the MD from Admin Website and now it stops at

init: .: line 1: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
Kernel panic - no syncing: ...

That indicates it doesnt load the NIC's driver?

Thanx in Advance

Users / EeeBox PC EB1501U
June 10, 2010, 08:50:50 AM
H All,
Has anyone tested or using an EeeBox PC EB1501U? Im from South Africa and these are the only "thin clients" i can find.
HP Units I can get from most of my suppliers but they dont have HDMI or SPDIF capabilities.
They also have intergrated ATI graphics cards.

I prefer vesa mountable units, because they are out of sight.
Pls point me in the right direction of obtaining compatible units.

Thanx in advance.
Great job guys, awesome system LinuMCE.
