Feature requests & roadmap / BBC iPlayer?
« on: November 18, 2009, 09:54:22 pm »
Are there any plans for LMCE to integrate iPlayer as an alternative to Hulu to us UK folk?

I'm no developer, but from what I can see, this may help: http://jonathan.tweed.name/2007/12/hacking-the-iplayer-embedded-m

I also have read that they are planning on releasing an API before too long: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2009/11/bbc_iplayer_standard_products.html

In the mean time though, why not just have an inbuilt link to the ten' iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen/

Hey, I've found something, but I have no idea how to impelemnt it, as I have the coding knowledge of an amoeba on crack.
The details are all on the website, but it could allow a Sony Errikson phone to become a 'follow me' remote for HA, Media control, and pretty much everything else. It may, of cours be already implemented, or this cannot be used for whatever reason, but, hey-ho, here it is:

Users / Questions about Product compatability
« on: July 05, 2009, 12:05:17 am »
Hey there, I am almost ready to release a project I've been working on into the wider world, and while it is not going to initially be LMCE powered, because I'm going to get it working first under Vista (or Win7), as it's easier to begin with, but I definately want to upgrade to LMCE at some point in the not too distant future (12-18 months after initial build). So I have to make sure that everything is compatable as far as possible.
I will be having the following, of which I am not sure about:

* KWorld PlusTV 399U Dual DVB-T USB TV Stick x2
* Asonic 8 ChannelC-media 8768 Chipset Soundcard

And that's about it. As I recall, pretty much any Bluetooth dongle will work, but please correct.

I will post as soon as I release it, but in the meantime, keep a look out at my Blog, where I will post details first. Seriouly, this is good, and will hopefully provide LMCE with something more than I can really say before I've finished it.

Cheers!

Users / Skype is about to go OS!
« on: May 22, 2009, 10:13:36 pm »
Sons and daughters of the internet, I bear good news! Skype is soon to ditch it's proprietary nature and embrace FreeSWITCH, which means nothing to me, but to the developers out there should be going weak at the knees.
This will make the Telephony section of LMCE that much more brilliant.

Out of my range, certainly, but the prospect of holding 400 BR Disks does seem attractive, certainly: http://www.slashgear.com/sony-cx7000es-400-disc-blu-ray-changer-coming-soon-2144437/

Does LMCE Orbiter work on android, and if so, to what extent? I Might be getting the G1 in the summer, and as I've said before, all gadgets that I get from now on, I'm trying to have them as LMCE-compatible as possible.

Users / Eyetoy as Security Camera?
« on: May 13, 2009, 08:49:39 pm »
Hey, I have a PS2 Eyetoy (Namtai version), and was wondering if I could use it as a security Camera for my soon-to-be Linux Media Center.
It is of reasonable quality, and is quit slim-line, making it very good as a security camera (will probably hide it, as it has a bright Blue LED in it). I have WinXP drivers for anyone if it will help, or does it work out the box?

Any help appreciated, as I want to make a perfect set up that will, well, be perfect.

Users / Orbiter on Nokia E71, and
« on: April 26, 2009, 07:52:59 pm »
As some of you may know, I am planning out a Media Center for some point in the future, and whilst it'll initially be VistaMCE, as I don't have any need for the features( like Home automation, VoIP etc) yet, but I intend to build it so that when I do need those features, the upgrade (as it definitely is an upgrade) to an LMCE Hybrid is as smooth as possible.
I just want to check, however, that everything will work with LMCE, and then I can see about where to get the funds to buy the bits.
Currently, I'm looking at:

(Already have Motherboard, and case no idea what it's called though, but it has 3 PCI ports, and a graphics slot.)
CPU: AMD Athlon 3200+ (It might be a 3400+, not sure. No overclocking done or planned) (Already Got)
RAM: 1GB atm, and will probably get another 2GB, so 3 GB overall.
GPU: nVidea GeForce 8500 (Already Got)
TV Tuner: WinTV Nova-TD 500 (It's not a Diversity model, so I THINK it's supported :/)
SPU: either this, or this.
Disk Drive: A cheapo DVD drive, connected via a SATA -> USB thing. Does LMCE support this?

And of course, another NIC.

Another thing: how well does LMCE support the use of the E71 as an Orbiter? I want to get one, but will have second thoughts if it doesn't support it.

Thankyou all very much in advance!

Users / Can I use LMCE?
« on: April 22, 2009, 11:13:30 pm »
Just a question, but seeing as I'm probably building a Media Center anyway, I might as well ask. I am currently behind a combined Router/Modem, so I obviously couldn't get my planned hybrid between them (i know there are thin clients, but I don't think there's one that would fit INSIDE the box  :D) So I was wondering If it would still havre full functionality?

Users / Windows MP?
« on: April 21, 2009, 06:56:33 pm »
Is LMCE able to send music to WMP? Hard to explain (especially as I am really rather tired atm), but with WMP, you can play music from other computers in the network, and, as I am going to keep using windows Vista on my current computer for gaming and such, I would like to still access my music on that, and, as I use WMP for my music anyway, I might as well use that. Or would you reccomend something else?

Users / LinuxMCE-Proofing my soonto be Vista MC
« on: April 19, 2009, 03:46:02 pm »
Hey. I'm going to be setting up a Media center in my bedroom, but I've come to the conclusion that I won't be needing LinuxMCE yet, as I just don't need all it's features.
HOWEVER. I want to be able to change to LinuxMCE in the future, when I do need all of it's features, and I can actually implement them. ASo I'm going to build it so that the ransition will be as smooth as possible wheen I do change from Vista to LinuxMCE, ie, all supported Hardware.

Can someone look at the planned hardware, and say whether it will run LinuxMCE well as a hybrid?

So:

500GB HDD
DVD Drive
2GB DDR2 RAM
Hauppauge WinTV Nova-TD 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV Tuner card (Is this the same as the Nova-T 500?)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1

And perhaps using an old Eyetoy (Namtai version) as a Camera.

What do you think? obviously I'll also put in a second NIC, but I don't need one yet.

Thanks in advance, and again respect to the developers.

Users / GlovePIE WiiMote support, and other noob questions
« on: April 14, 2009, 04:48:30 pm »
Hey there, First post, etc. etc.
I'm thinking of building a Media center in my bedroom, and am looking at LinuxMCE as a possiblity (will probably initially sret up with WinMCE, but will probably evewntually change).
I have a couple of questions though:
  • Does Linux MCE have glovePIE support, and if so, has anyone used a Wii-Mote with it? If so, then that would be BRILLIANT for me, as I've been thinking of using WiiMotes, as it has a bit COOL factor, plus, they're cheaper. And also, Glovepie is very customisable, which makes things LOVELY.
  • How much do you think it would cost for a basic media/lighting automation system? I already have the box, just no monitor, or any other goodies. I will initially only be using it in just the one room, more as a test than anything, so I don't need much.
  • Does LMCE play HD movies?
  • Does it have bittorrent support?

Thankyou so much in advance, and thankyou anyway to the developers, you do truly rock. I mean it. And not just ordinarry Sandtone Rock. You're godamn Quartz Rock Rocking. I don't know where I'm going with this. At all.

Cheers!
