Hi, in my house there is no central climate control unit but instead there is a thermal valve on each radiator in the house. Is any one aware of a solution that can fit straigh on the radiator and be controlled by LinuxMCE.

I would not expect that it excists but I would like to be sure.

Users / dual boot on test server with LinuxMCE 8.10
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:42:55 pm »
I am trying to download the software for a new installation with version 8.10. I want to seperate install kubuntu 8.10 and then linuxmce 8.10. I have managed to download kubuntu but cannot find the download files for LinuxMCE. Do I miss something ? Maybe someone can give me the link.

I want to seperately install it as I am going to test the 8.10 version on a second linux system I have. I want to do this before changing my older installation. The test system I would like to dual boot for the time being as I am only doing some testing in the weekend.

Any suggestion are welcome

Users / Start something with command line command from linuxmce
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:14:44 pm »
Hi, I am still working on the option to start a process in the background while running Linuxmce. I quess there must different options. I have looked at starting Hellanzb as a daemon at boot. Have not been successful with this. Is there anyone that could point me to the right wikipage if there is one.

If no page available I am looking to create a wiki page on this. This process must be general to any programm you want to start in the background.

Two options I see are:

1) at boot time
2) through a scenario

Anyone that can help me further ?

I am trying to follow the wiki to install the games. In the plugin instructions I get stuck:

Here is what I do and the messages I got. Basically the file that I try to copy in the last command is not there.

Over the last few weeks I got to know LinuxMCE a bit better. It is time to build a system now that fits in my living-room. I have found the following motherboard. I know that nvidia is prefered over ATI. But what about the video chip that is on this board ?

Secondly is there anyone that knows reasons why I should not go for this board ?

Want to use UI2 with overlay and s-video output.

In stead of copying all the specs I add a direct link to the motherboard and only give the main information that I thought is most important.

Users / Add songs to playlist during playback
« on: February 08, 2009, 06:46:08 pm »
I am wondering if I can change the current behavior of MCE a bit. When you add a song through the orbiter to your current playlist it starts to play right away. Is there a way to add it to the playlist without starting the song right away and continue the playing song.

Users / Can I use rc.local in /etc to startup progs
« on: February 04, 2009, 06:10:37 pm »
I am using Hellanzb on my core. I want it to start at boot. I found a way to do this in linux. Will this work on LinuxMCE aswell or is there are better way of doing this on LMCE ?

Just add this line inside /etc/rc.local and change $HELLAUSER to whatever your username is.

 su -c '/usr/bin/screen -S hellanzb -d -m /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/hellanzb.py > /dev/null 2> /dev/null' $HELLAUSER

Can i use user linuxmce here or do they want another user ?

Users / Orbiter view on audio files
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:04:01 am »
When looking for music on performer and after choosing a performer you get in the album screen. After choosing the artist you get to the title screen. I never payed attention to fill in the album information of songs. Is it possible to configure LMCE that it will skip the album screen so it will show right away the titles that are there for that artist.

Installation issues / Kubuntu security updates
« on: January 31, 2009, 12:27:32 am »
Question I did not find post on or wiki articles. My brother is using normal Ubuntu and gets regular updates. Specially security updates. Do I need to check updates for Kubuntu 7.10 ?

How is that implemented with LMCE ?

Users / TV streams added to Video category in orbiter
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:52:03 pm »
I am still curious why played TV streams are added to the Video category in the orbiter. This is not the case with music streams. You will not see them back in the Audio category. Can I stop the addition of the TV streams to the Video category ?

Secondly I heard that there are issues with storing TV streams that do not have a file extention and that start with an IP address. The problem I heard was that the link is not stored correct in the DB.

Who can shine a light on this for me.

Users / Disable autoplay wiki (solved)
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:38:53 pm »
When you insert the DVD or AudioCD, LinuxMCE starts playing it automatically. But I wanted to switch this off. There is a page in the wiki that describes this. It does not seem to have a Send events box anymore. Did something change in 7.10 RC2 ?

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Disable_autoplay

1. Start browser and open LinuxMCE web UI there by entering IP address of your LinuxMCE Core
2. Login with your username and password
3. Switch to the "Show devices tree" view
4. Find in the tree the required "Disk_Drive" device for that M/D (note: if you have more than one drive connected, you will need to find the correct one)
5. For this Disk_Drive device, in "Device data" section, uncheck the "Send Events" checkbox. Press "Save" button
6. Do a quick reload router to apply new settings

Offcourse I will document this again in the wiki afterwards

Users / working fireplace tv stream for who is interested
« on: January 27, 2009, 11:56:43 pm »
I found a live tv stream with a burning fireplace. See the instructions in the wiki to create the scenario:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Internet_TV

Stream link is:

mms://wm1.streamzilla.jet-stream.nl/demo=fireplacePAL1500

Have fun with the fireplace and do not forget to put it out in the night  ;D

Leave a message if you have it working and like it. This will show the tread to others to use.

Is there anyone who wants to support me on getting the F6, F7 and F8 button configured on a logitec MX Air mouse. It works out of the box with some of the buttons. Am using 7.10 RC2

I wanted to programm additional buttons as described on the wiki:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Use_Additional_Mouse_Buttons#Result

I checked with XEV application and it recognised until button 5. I changed the procedure to use B:2 B:4 and B:5 (last two are the scroll buttons)

I have done the troubleshooting instructions to see if that would help but no success

Can someone who has it working check the procedure if it is correct ?

The thing that suprised me was that with using the following instruction I created an new file. Is that correct ?
sudo nano -w /etc/apt/sources.list

In the wiki on the logitec MX AIR page there is a link to the following website http://www.hidpoint.com/ for a driver. I am a bit reluctant to install this as the demo does not show that you can program the additional buttons for the function keys.

Any ideas ?

Does changing xorg.conf do anything on my installation or is another config file used ? I have a configuration for the mouse from someone else with the same mouse. Changing that in xorg.conf is not doing anything on my system.

Users / For new Linux MCE users
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:04:04 pm »
I recently started using LinuxMCE and with my journey though Linux and MCE land I have collected the steps done. A lot of my questions have been answered by the wiki or the forum. By time I needed help to find the right information. I see a lot of my questions coming back on the forum from other new users. I started with documenting my experience and steps taken in the wiki. I think this might be of interest to new users. Please have a look and comment in this tread on this forum if you have thoughts or ideas and if it is helpfull (it is taking considerable time).

For more experienced users you can see the things I am still planning to do but do not know yet how to do it. Please feel free to make suggestions or point me to the right source of information. Guess the easiest way would be to send me a message. I will add it to wiki so more newbies can benefit from it.

For now a big thanks to everyone who has helped me and a lot of fun with LinuxMCE as I think it is a great piece of work.

Please leave a message if you find this beneficial. This will encourage me to continue this effort

Users / manually fill in Chapters of DVD´s
« on: January 23, 2009, 05:57:24 pm »
I have some dvd´s added to MCE. It is a dvd with music clips. The chapters are numbered from Chapter 1 to 89. Is it possible to manually change the name of the chapters. Example name in stead of Chapter 1. It is not on official DVD that can be in any database.
