Users / Stop asterisk from being hijacked
« on: April 23, 2009, 08:39:52 pm »
There is currently a lot of malicious activity being targeted at asterisk phone systems.  In the default settings, it's easy to find an unregistered extension and take over that extension.  In the case of LinuxMCE, the extension and the 'secret' registration password are the same.

It's fairly easy to throw random registration attempts at the box and wait for a good response.

blocking external SIP traffic with a firewall with not work because you would also be blocking legit registrations to SIP providers you have accounts with.

How can the 'secret' phone registration password be changed on devices like orbiter embedded phones so that when they're off, no one else can assume the role just by matching extension and password?

It's fairly easy to change the 'secret' on SIP devices but I cannot find the password location in the orbiter embedded devices.  Of course, one can change the EXTENSION password on the asterisk side by accessing the phone config but this will break service to the orbiter as it will no longer be able to register without the correct password.

Users / TV guide will not display
« on: March 13, 2009, 04:14:40 am »
I have a DirecTV sending video to the PVR-150 over the composite video port.  I'm getting a good picture and can change channels.  I have SchedulesDirect and I'm able to get guide data.  I can not get the guide to display.  I'm using the medium blending option on my Nvidia 6200LE card.  I have no other problems with display or video on my HDTV.  What am I doing wrong / how can I fix my guide?

Can someone tell me how to switch or install the different XXXXXXX firmware packages in the software list to my XXXXXXX?  I've been searching around but can't find any information.

Installation issues / Schedulesdirect manual entry
« on: January 31, 2009, 05:12:50 am »
I did a restore and now I'm getting an error (There was an error retrieving provider information) when entering my schedulesdirect.org account information.  I'm positive i have the login credentials correct (they work on the website).  At the end of the message, it says I can specify the data on the admin web page.  Can someone tell me where to find it on the admin web page?

Users / Insteon security question
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:07:42 pm »
I am ready to add some automation and I like the Insteon stuff for several reasons.  I'm looking at the M1 Gold (http://www.smarthome.com/128301I/INSTEON-Compatible-M1-Gold-Kit-Security-and-Automation-System/p.aspx) and I would like to know if it can be controlled by the M1 ethernet port expander (included).  It will likely not be anywhere near my core and so I would like a good way to connect.  I want this to be as close to plug and play as I can get, considering it's my first time.  If I'm heading down the wrong path, someone please let me know.

Installation issues / compatible HD tuner card with non coax source
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:00:50 pm »
I have the newest DirecTV DVR (HR22).  It does not provide coax out.  My options are HDMI, composite or component.  I need a compatible tuner card that will handle input in one of those 3 formats and hopefully handle it well.  Keep in mind that I need to receive audio as well somehow, so a card with just a video RCA in will not be enough unless it also has a separate audio input.

I have combed the compatible list and from what pictures and specs I could find, most cards (even the HD ones) only have coax inputs.
Suggestions?

Installation issues / inbound calls not rining all phones
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:45:15 pm »
where can I check for problems with inbound calls / extensions.  I have several SIP phones configured properly and there are 100% working.  However, a call to the house that rings the whole house does not ring these extensions.  The admin web page / telecom / call routing has them all checked.

Installation issues / DirecTV HR22 configuration
« on: January 05, 2009, 03:06:32 am »
All,
I got a new DirecTV HR22-100 today and I'm having a hell of a time adding it.  I want to control it with one of the IR blasters connected to my MCE USB receiver.  I've been trying to follow the instructions on this page [http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Control_a_TV_or_cable/satellite_box] but they aren't very linear.  For example, the 'controlled by' doesn't show up in the add device wizard and I don't have the controlling IR device listed in the 'controlled by' section if I create the device on my own and then select it in the tree.

ANY help is appreciated.

Installation issues / Time settings on Cisco 7970
« on: December 28, 2008, 07:56:17 pm »
My first install of both linuxmce and a Cisco 7970.  Both about a week old.  I have the 7970 up and running as an orbiter but the time is 1 hour off from the "real" time and that of the core.  To be clear, the core has the correct time.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to alter the time on the Cisco?
