Users / Pictures?
« on: December 10, 2008, 06:40:31 am »
Hi,
I have a NAS with a bunch of pictures.  How do I configure Linux MCE to see my /media/pictures directory on my NAS?  It did seem to find my audio, by way of finding the windows share it is configured as.  The pictures directory is directly parallel to my music directory, but I don't see them.  I see under "media files sync" there are directories configured under /home/public/data, how do I add a path to my NAS?  I see it under /mnt/device/37/

Thanks

Hello,
I've got our PVR hooked to the hybrid being shared successfully, but I'm having to manually power it on/off when I activate "TV" from another room.  I do have the IR code programmed correctly, as I can test it and it works.  I see in pvr "advanced" tab, ignore power on/off is set to "off".  When choosing "TV" or "Live TV" from the media director, how do I get it to send the "toggle power" command to the pvr in the other room automatically?  (Really cool how this is working so far though, every other remote command seems to work)

Thanks

I have a usb-uirt I'm trying to use to control 4 components.  One is rather picky, my receiver, in that I need to aim the usb-uirt towards it to control it.  Problem is then my other devices can see the commands then.  I know there is a port on the back of it where I can purchase an extra emitter, but what can i do to reliably switch all of them?  Maybe mount a mirror on the other side of the room?  What have others done?

Thanks

Users / Can Mythtv use the Linux MCE IR settings for channel changing?
« on: December 07, 2008, 01:05:46 pm »
Hello,
I have a directv set top box hooked to a pvr-150.  I am just getting/learning mythv.  If I train my pvr commands in linux mce A/V page for channel changing etc, Can mythv access these codes somehow, to channel change at the appropriate times to record shows?

Thanks

Users / mythtv looks stretched vertically/skinny. Can't find setting
« on: December 07, 2008, 08:58:38 am »
Hi,
I've looked on the mythtv site, for "aspect ratio", looked in the setting etc, can't seem to find how to get the aspect ratio looking right.

I notice in the AV setup wizard for linuxmce, I cannot seem to choose 16:9.  When I get to the end, it asks me to confirm, and it says 4:3, but I never came to the option to select that.  I'm not sure if this is causing the mythtv issue, but it isn't correct.  I have a 16:9 tv.  I choose hdmi/1080p/60hz.  I see no setting for aspect ratio.
Can anyone point me to any information regarding how to change mythtv aspect ratio (or linuxmce)?

Thanks

Users / failed to connect to DCErouter
« on: December 06, 2008, 02:55:02 am »
Something is wrong with my system.

Last night I was configuring pipes between my devices.  I notice on the screen it said I should quick reload the router, which I did.  It seemed like it was stuck on "generating orbiter #20" on 0% forever (that is my onscreen orbiter device).  So it was late, I figured let it go and continue tomorrow.  Well today I went to browse the A/V devices, and I got an error in my browser, something to the effect of not being able to allocate memory.  So I did a reboot of the system, then after that a quick reload, and observed what was going on.  It got stuck on 0% on the onscreen orbiter device again.  When trying to browse to media directors or orbiters on the admin page, I get "loading" and no content.  So in the fear of making things worse, I figure I better stop now and ask for some advice.  The last thing I was doing was assigning the A/V pipes to my receiver/pvr etc.  (for the first time).  Prior to that, I think I did a "set up new diskless MD" in the media directors screen, in preparation for booting one of those for the first time.

Any idea what I should do next?  Any logs I can send?  I see on the display now it says "failed to connect to DCErouter!".  That can't be good.

Thanks
Dave

PS, after a longer pause, when going to the AV screen on the admin page, I get this in the browser:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 40 bytes) in /var/www/pluto-admin/include/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 541

Installation issues / USB-UIRT disabled
« on: December 04, 2008, 09:09:22 am »
Hello,
Long story short, I could learn with the USB-UIRT, but could not control.  I am running the i386 dvd install of 0710.  Found this:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/USB-UIRT_x86_Fix

Followed this very carefully to the letter.  Reboot, now I cannot learn with the remote.  When rebooting I see "Not starting USB-UIRT, it is disabled" in the window prior to the full GUI appearing.  I see this:

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5148.0

But no amount of reboot or loading the router helps.

I also notice a difference from before in the AV devices window.  Before, in the "comm port on PC" entry, I could select USB-UIRT.  Now, I can only select /sys/bus/usb-serial/devices/*.   Does anyone have any clue or suggestions on how to fix this?  I am contemplating doing a complete do-over with the 64bit dvd (I have an AMD X2 processor).  But somehow I feel this might open up a different can of worms.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

Users / Initial install, my orbiter is my tv, what remote to use?
« on: December 04, 2008, 05:37:59 am »
Hi,
I do have a USB-UIRT installed, and it is receiving, because I can train codes for AV equipment (can't transmit, but that is another post, which I have found a fix for).  But I have not purchased a fiire or any other remote yet, is there a remote that might perhaps work?  I do have a xbox media center remote, and I think I recall reading somewhere that this would work, but it doesn't.  I see the usb-uirt blink though.
I know that you assign IR codes for AV equipment in the home page for functions, but where do you tell linux mce what remote to recognize?  Are there predefined ones somewhere?

I have browsed around the interfaces page on the admin screen, and I do see the usb-uirt.  Down below there is a "device pipes used", is this where I assign a "remote"?  I am still wrapping my head around this "pipes" thing.

Thanks

Users / Use the 64 bit linux mce distrobution?
« on: November 30, 2008, 12:23:27 pm »
Hello,
I have building an amd x2 based hybrid.  Is the 64 bit install any more or less stable than the 32 bit version?  Any reason to use one over the other?  Do all the other media directors need to be 64 bit also, since they net boot from the hybrid, or can the media director boot images be 32 bit even under a 64 bit os?

Thanks

I was thinking of putting a Abit Mb Anm2 Hd Le motherboard in it for a Media Director.

Users / 2nd NIC for the core?
« on: November 15, 2008, 08:04:26 am »
I'm thinking of getting this for a second NIC in my core.

Are there certain chipsets I should limit myself to when buying  a NIC for linuxmce?  Will this one work?

Thanks

Users / Some dvd drives better than others?
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:36:31 am »
Hello,
I'm putting together a hybrid and media director system, and am wondering what brand of dvd drives to get, or whether it matters.  Are there particular models of dvd drives which are supported or unsupported by linuxmce?  Also, would it be worth it at this time to get a blu-ray drive?  Is there linuxmce support for blu-ray drives?

Thanks

Users / hard drive sizes for the core
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:13:13 am »
Hello,
When buying hard drives for the core, is it best to get a smaller HD for the linuxMCE OS, and reserve the large drives for the media, or does it matter?  I think I may want a raid 5 config eventually for the media only, but I want to just get it up and going first with 2 drives (one os and one media), then expand later.
Which leads to another question: If my initial configuration is 1 OS drive and 1 media drive, and later I want to expand my media storage to use raid 5, my understanding is I would need to get 2 more identical drives (minimum, 4 more optimal), and format them to use raid 5.  Can linux support a configuration where one drive is non-raid, and another set of drives is configured raid?

Thanks

Users / Connection of PVR and hybrid PC
« on: November 10, 2008, 01:54:28 am »
Hello,
I currently have my directv HD pvr hooked up to the component inputs of my tv.  I have been looking at capture card options for setting up a hybrid PC, and there doesn't seem to be any with hdmi or component inputs, only s-video.  So to maintain HD video to my HDTV, it appears I will need to leave the component cables hooked from my PVR to my tv, and use the additional s-video from the PVR to feed the capture card on the hybrid PC?  If so, this means if I want to see the hybrid PC video, I would need to hook it to a separate input on my TV, and would only see SD video from my PVR from the hybrid PC video side of things.

Are there any "HD" capable capture cards compatible with linuxMCE, to enable me to hook my PVR to it on the hybrid PC and maintain HD quality visuals out of the video card of the hybrid PC (kind of functioning as a HD pass-through)?  This would enable me to use the existing input on my AV receiver and not have to use an additional one (which I'm not sure I have).  The only thing I see is the HD PVR at http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html, but this is not expicitly listed as supported on the linux MCE hardware page.

Any advice is  much appreciated

Thanks

Users / tv card in core server?
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:19:58 pm »
Hello,
I'm getting ready to purchase hardware for a core and 1 media director, and I notice in the core hardware section the sentence "Further, it is best to have the TV card in the Core server".  I am wondering why this is, because I intend the server to be in a closet, with no tv hooked to it.  Is this because one may want to hook an OTA antenna to it, and record shows?  This is the only reason I can think of for the card to be there.  In my situation, I intend for one of the media directors to be capturing from my directv PVR, with an IR blaster to control it from another room.  Anyone know why a tv card would be in the core?

Thanks
