I re-installed a Dianemo system and the axis camera received an IP but a prompt for the camera to add/ignore it never appeared and its not listed in unknown devices.
I actually don't need this camera added (axis 212 ptz) as it doesn't seem to work with the ios orbiter which already has an app.
My main concern is that as there is no dns server on the core I am concerned the ip might rotate at some point.

How do you guys handle these cases?

Thanks!

Users / Internet radio and audio in Dianemo
June 01, 2013, 09:35:00 PM
Hey guys,
Gotta re-install from a hardware issue and I never got around to setting up internet radio or ripped audio on a dianemo I setup for someone.

The wiki explains how to setup LMS, but I am unclear on the need for any actual squeeze players?
Is there any way to broadcast net radio/ripped music to a virtualized sound card with an amp pumping music to several rooms without buying any hardware?

Thanks!

Users / Atom based touch screen md

Does anyone know the model of the one used with the Dianemo systems? Although I see the merit in other configurations
I am stuck utilizing just one instance like this.

Thanks guys.

Users / Touchscreen md
January 17, 2013, 03:31:15 AM
I had planned for sometime when a kitchen was done to use a tablet as an Orbiter with a frame, stuck to the wall.

Now I need to drive a tuner and play sound etc at this location, so I figure I should just use a touch panel based computer as an md. Whats the currently best option for one of these now?

Thanks!

Looking through the wiki it seems this shouldn't be a problem. I am pretty sure I had it running with a 12.04 install but now each time I try with 12.04.1 once Dianemo installs it reboots with a flicker between a blank screen and the console login.

This core will never be used for viewing media, is there a way to set this up remotely or bypass the wizard and let it remain at a console login if it can't be fixed?

Thanks!

Users / Orbiter with knock off web pads
April 24, 2012, 11:07:58 PM
Probably a couple years ago I saw some ~$150ish web pad knock offs, anyone using something in that price range with success?
If not, what are the most economical pads people have found that work well.

I know I can use a Nok 900, but its disco'ed and expensive as hell. Seems from looking through the forum the ipad is pretty solid now, but thats expensive as hell just the same.

Thanks guys!

Anyone local to southern Alberta region interested in helping setup a new home with mce and local to Calgary area?
I started a new and don't have the time to finish a project I started ages ago...
Contact me if so to discuss compensation.

Its been a while since I have been involved with mce, looking through the wiki I gather ZWave would be the best option for a Canadian based home? Anyone have any opinions, I would be grateful.

Thanks!

Users / MD Downloading packages unexpectedly
June 04, 2010, 07:20:14 PM
I just setup a new core with 810, connected my revo 1610 and it booted up fine. The only odd thing was during the media wizard no matter what output I selected it always output video to vga until I rebooted.

It came up over hdmi and played audio fine through opt spdif so I turned it off then used the webadmin to set it to audio over hdmi and rebuilt the image.

After booting it up it began to download packages, is that expected, or was there something I did wrong in the above procedure? It also restarted the av wizard?

Thanks!

Users / Axis M1031-W Camera w/ Audio
April 20, 2010, 06:07:30 PM
Anyone know what would be required to interface the http://www.axis.com/products/cam_m1031w/index.htm camera natively with mce? I just dont know enough about the inner workings to know this.

This camera has both a mic and a speaker for bidirectional comm. I hope to use it at a front door, when the door bell is rung, I hope to be able to communicate with it via my MD with its TV or possibly an MO?

Thanks for any ideas!

Users / Anyone used a Valcom SIP Door Intercom
April 19, 2010, 07:27:30 PM
I am about to order a Valcom VIP-172L http://www.valcom.com/techsupport/ip_solutions/ip_intercomdoorphones.htm as an IP based door intercom, then add a bullet camera with a single port encoder such as an https://www.supercircuits.com/Security-Cameras/Bullet-Security-Cameras/PC337HR.

Anyone done something similar, or from a usability point of view see anything I could do better? From an old thread http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5712.0 (just getting around to doing this now) I suspect this should be fine.

Intercom is ~450.00 so I think its the cheapest solution to accomplish a "SIP" video intercom setup.

Thanks!

Users / Core install bypassing wizard
April 05, 2010, 06:27:50 PM
If the core will not be used for any viewing purposes, does there exist an undocumented way to bypass the wizards and predefine no initial options?

Thanks

Users / Touch Screen
April 01, 2010, 05:33:28 PM
Anyone got a wall mountable touch screen lcd (~17") that they know works with mce?
I would imagine most anything with Linux support would be fine, but just checking.

Thanks!

Users / Room w/ Radio Only
March 30, 2010, 07:33:50 PM
I have several rooms in a new home that we only want to put radios, hence no tv/monitor. I intended on putting small md's in my rack and routing their line level outputs into a commercial Crown 4 ch amp.

If I intend on using a Nokia N8/900 to control just lights/radio in these rooms, am I overlooking any needed functionality not having a tv in the room?

Thanks!

So after going through the AV wizard (where I recall the hotkeys for toggling video resolution etc) I enter the setup section where all of a sudden the display became torn badly as if the resolution was invalid. With a iLO2 console, I verified that the display is actually corrupt, so are there any hotkeys to force the resolution at this point?

Whats the best way to restart the whole process?

This server has a wee little ATI Rage chipset (I wont actually be using it for viewing).

Thanks

Users / hdmi balun's
March 26, 2010, 08:14:37 PM
All my speakers are in wall/ceiling and therefor I am thinking about leaving all the actual pc's for each room in the rack in the basement, and using hdmi balun's to get the video to each tv/projector. The only downside I can see is lack of a dvd tray. I can transfer remote signals via many options.

Any seasoned opinions on a setup like this?

Thanks!

Users / torrent for latest dvd

Hey guys,
The torrent filename doesn't match the latest iso filename, before I queue it up, is it still the same?
Thanks!

It looks like the install script attempts to write to /dev/cciss/c0d01 instead of /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 for the first partition?
How can I get around this for 710?

Kubuntu 810 will install on an HP (and therefor I assume simply installing the beta through apt will too), but will the unified installer for 810 still have the bug?

Thanks!

Users / TV Tuner Question
April 09, 2009, 03:32:49 AM
I actually don't even own a TV ;) but am setting up a system and have a few questions. Being in Canada, from what I understand Cable from Shaw must be decoded by their Motorola box if you want to watch HBO in HD for example. That makes it necessary to hook a TV up directly to it (as well as one of the TV's inputs to a media director). If I wanted to watch regular TV, I could stream the signals by hooking the cable up directly to a tuner in the core?

So I am reading about this HDHomerun, aside from streaming the video over the wire, does this add any viewing capabilities to the system as far as what can be watched/tuned from where? I'm a little unclear on "what" can be streamed and how? If it hooks up to incoming cable, I still cant decode any HD that is not OTA, right?

Bottom line I guess, until an HD capture card gets support, streaming anything from the Shaw box in very high quality isn't an option, correct?

Thanks!

Users / Insteon versus Zwave
March 23, 2009, 05:39:31 PM
I am going through incredible grief over getting Insteon docs for the new 2412N Ethernet based controller for Insteon lighting and HA products.

What can anyone suggest as far as zwave and its use in mce? Is it pretty solid, and issues to be aware of?
Also, does anyone have any reco's as far as a manufacture to favor for zwave integrated products?

Thanks for any insight!
