Installation issues / Delayed detection of plug and play devices
« on: March 08, 2010, 06:00:30 pm »
Finished my new install of 8.10 beta 22812 Saturday around 1:00pm.. immediately my 3 nas devices appeared as plug and play devices and were configured without any issues..

Here's where things get weird..  The next morning around 10:00am I got an on screen message that plug and play detected the internal hard drive and asked if I wanted to use it as a storage device..  I accepted and everything appeared to be working properly so I wrote that off as a fluke even though it took 21 hours for lmce to detect the internal hard drive as a storage device..

Unfortunately, it happened again.. with another device.. Sunday morning around 8:00am I plugged a new IP camera into my network (but made no attempt to use it with lmce), then Sunday night at 10:30pm I get a message that lmce detected the IP camera and wanted to set it up..  a full 14.5 hours after plugging it in... and to make matters worse, I had unplugged the camera later that afternoon so it wasn't even on the network anymore...

Installation issues / Initial create of diskless md

New install with the latest DVD, from March 1st:  LinuxMCE-8.10-22812-i386.iso

Finally got everything installed and working and ran Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh

Got:

Ran an apt-get update and upgrade and rebooted for hell of it...  ran again and got the same error.

Here's my sources.list which has not been modified:

Also, out of curiosity, what's the quickest way to get a new media file added to a nas recognized by lmce?  I know the update media daemon is running all the time, but 20 minutes after adding a new file to my nas it still was not picked up by lmce.

And before I try, I saw a post from awhile back stating that getting cover art from Amazon is broken.  Is that still the case?

Thanks

Installation issues / Finally trying 8.10
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:47:09 pm »
OK, I haven't used linuxmce in quite awhile..  I figured I would give 8.10 a shot...  fresh install of kubuntu, updates and reboot, downloaded latest installer, ran pre, install, and post install.

comes up with a WHITE screen, not black with cursor and states installing packages..  ie..  flac, cdrecord, lame, etc...  generates screens, says Loading LinuxMCE...  I never get the avwizard...  reboot and it does the same thing, white screen and states it's installing the packages it's already installed and generates screens again......  it just sits there on a white screen..

trying to select 1 for dvi does nothing because the avwizard never starts..  holding shift during reboot does nothing..

video card is nvidia 9500gt

Any ideas?

Installation issues / AppServer
« on: January 30, 2008, 04:03:43 pm »
Can someone give me a rundown of everything that appserver is responsible for?  It seems to me like there are issues with appserver in 7.10.  I know others have had issues..  When I tried to run the 64-bit version of Beta3, appserver would never start, even after multiple installs...  So I tried the 32-bit install and had no problems until 2 nights ago..  I had to reboot my hybrid (not the first time since install) and now all of a sudden appserver won't start anymore.  Worked fine for a couple of weeks and now it won't start..  No changes have been made to my system.

It seems many people are having issues with 7.10 that were not an issue with 7.04 including appserver, cifs mounted file systems disappearing, inability to download and install the additional software packages, etc...  not really seeing much in mantis about this..  it appears that the developers aren't having these problems with their test machines...

Developers / Via CN700 vs VIA CN896 Chipset

Has anyone tried the newer CN896 chipset graphics?  When the mobo I'm looking at is back in stock I plan on trying it out.

My only problem with the Quick-Install DVD is that I have to go in after install and change my network settings.  A fellow co-worker who I have convinced to give LMCE a try also asked if this is possible...  I would think since there is an option to keep configuration from a previous install, that it wouldn't be too hard to have an option to fill-in your specific network settings at the beginning of the DVD install.  We both only have one nic and need to change the external address and gateway from the default that is setup with the DVD install.

Installation issues / 0710b3 64bit issues
« on: January 18, 2008, 02:39:06 pm »
Was running 0710b2 (i386) and did not have this issue..  with beta3 64 bit, appserver does not start...  no flicr images, no additional software to install (non-network issue, can browse internet) in the logs I'm getting App_Server (xxxxx) Trap divide error rip:xxxxxx

Any ideas?

Users / A little lirc guidance please
« on: January 04, 2008, 03:34:23 pm »
I need a little guidance with lirc please.  My Streamzap remote is still not supported in the 7.10 beta.  It is setup in Kubuntu and I have a lircd.conf file for it.  I can run irw and key presses register correctly so it's working fine in Kubuntu.  My question is about the instructions in the wiki:

LinuxMCE's infrared remote control module is based on LIRC. See http://lirc.org/ for details. LIRC includes an 'IR Record' utility to build a configuration file for a new remote control. Once you do that, then in LinuxMCE Admin choose 'Advanced', 'Device Templates'. Choose the manufacturer, for the Category choose Peripherals, Remote Controls, LIRC Remote controls. Type in the model of the remote and click 'add'. Then edit the device, add a device data "Configuration" and copy the LIRC configuration file into it.

Are the instructions talking about copying the lircd.conf file into it, or a different configuration file like a lircrc conf file?

Users / VIA C7 1Ghz - LN10000EG - Diskless MD problem
« on: December 07, 2007, 05:25:38 pm »
Is there anything special you have to do to set these up as diskless MD's?? It boots from the network and performs the install, updates, etc...  gets to the end and says script is finished but the x server won't start so the av wizard won't start up...  video is connected through vga..  screen just goes blank and then goes back to console over and over... just to make sure I didn't have other problems I tried a diskless boot on another device and it worked fine..  (slowly) but eventually the avwizard came up on the test device...  anything special needed for the via boxes to boot from network?

Feature requests & roadmap / Streamzap PC Remote
« on: December 06, 2007, 05:16:27 pm »
May be too late to get this into 7.10, but my Streamzap PC remote is automatically detected and installed with lirc in Kubuntu 7.10..   anyway to get this remote plug and play with lmce?? Here's the lircd.conf file for the Streamzap.

Users / Network Help, Round 2
« on: November 27, 2007, 08:10:31 pm »
Let me begin by saying that right now my linuxmce is working other than a problem with keyboard/mouse (in another post)..  so what I'm wanting to know is if my settings are fine the way they are, or should I change them/tweak them to make them any better...

I have a hybrid that happens to be no where close to my internet router and only has one network drop.. during setup I chose to enable the dhcp server using the subnet of my existing network...  with a static ip address of 192.168.1.2 because my internet router is 192.168.1.1...  I disabled the dhcp server on my internet router and pointed it to the dhcp server on linuxmce which is the aforementioned 192.168.1.2 address..  I of course used the 1.1 address as my gateway on linuxmce..

After install I looked at the network settings in linuxmce through the web panel and noticed that it still assigned 2 addresses, one for the external network (192.168.1.2, the address I statically assigned during setup) and an internal address all on the same eth0 interface, although it called the interface eth0.0 (192.168.1.1)..  since my internet router is already 192.168.1.1 I tried to change the internal address of linuxmce to 192.168.1.3 so there would not be an address conflict....  I tried multiple times to change the internal address but it would never change, so instead, I left the internal address of .1, the external address of .2 and changed my internet router to .3...  I then changed my gateway in linuxmce to .3 (internet router)

Ok, so to make a long story longer, it's working, but is it right??  One NIC in my linuxmce..  external address .2, internal address .1, internet router and gateway for linuxmce .3  on my internet router I'm forwarding dhcp requests to linuxmce at .2 (does it matter if it's .1 or .2?)  when my devices come up and pull an address, they are showing a gateway of .1 (internal address of linuxmce, not the real internet gateway .3) but they can still access the internet, so like I said, it's working... I guess my only question is, should I leave it alone since it's working, or does anything need to be changed?

Thanks

Installation issues / Quick Question regarding version 7.10
« on: November 27, 2007, 05:39:40 pm »
Will it be possible to upgrade 7.04 to 7.10 or will you have to do a new install? Kubuntu 7.10 automatically detects and installs my remote (streamzap) when configuring lirc so I'm hoping that I can do an upgrade to 7.10 without doing a whole new install and that my remote will be supported.

Installation issues / Please Help
« on: November 27, 2007, 05:26:08 pm »
 >:(

I'm having a really strange problem...  I've posted before, but now I've figured out a little more, so I'm going to ask again..  When I first boot up my hybrid/core and the UI comes up...  I have no control over it with the keyboard/mouse...  keyboard does nothing, whether I pres F6,F7,F8..  and the mouse will just slowly jump from the beginning place.. wait several seconds, and then appear at the ending place....  but has no effect on anything on the screen..  ie.. will not activate the menus or any OSD buttons..  mouse clicks have no effect...  so, mouse will not track movement, will not activate any menu items, clicks do nothing...  keyboard does nothing...  they are both USB and I have tried unplugging them, plugging them back in...  same results...  I had this problem..  gave up, then just re-installed linuxmce and gave it a shot again...  same thing is happening..

Well, now I've figured out that if I kill the x session (control, alt, backspace), login at the command line, then startx, when KDE desktop comes up and then the UI comes up again, the keyboard and mouse will work..  so apparently, when the x server is initially starting, something is happening with keyboard and mouse..  can someone please help me solve this problem???

One more question, does linuxmce not detect UPNP shares??  On my freenas, I have both samba shares and upnp sharing..  the samba shares are detected by linuxmce, but not the upnp shared files...  other devices on my network detect these upnp shares, so my guess is that linuxmce does not detect them...

I would really appreciate any help with the keyboard/mouse issue..  It's driving my nuts...
