I noticed that I have some upgrades available for mplayer, transcode and mjpegtools. Should I run these updates? Is there anything I need to worry about if I do? Do I need to run these upgrades on the MD's as well or just on the core?

Ok, So I followed the directions in the wiki and I did a search on this forum and still I cannot get subtitles to work.
Here is what I've done.
First: make sure that the subtitle file is named correctly and in the same directory as the .avi file.
File Name : movie.avi
Subtitle: movie.avi.sub

Second: Make sure to uncomment the following lines in the xine.conf file on the MD where I'm playing the movie.(I also made the same change on the core)
gui.subtitle_autoload: 1
misc.spu_subtitle_size: large

Did a full regen on the MD.

Still no change.

I booted into the core and ran Xine from the desktop and loaded the .sub file and everything was working with no problem.
What am I doing wrong?

November 24, 2011, 07:16:49 PM
I'm looking for a known working USB web cam for surveillance. I tried to set up a Logitech quick cam that I had but I am not able to get any visual. Is anyone using a USB cam? If so what brand and model?
Thanks,

Just wondering if there is a list of supported game pads and joy sticks for LMCE 810?
#5
Hello everyone..
I finally got around to installing the LMCE 810 release. My core and core MD installed with no problem. Everything seems solid but my diskless MD will not start the install process. I remember during beta there was something I had to do to get the diskless MD installers to work, is there a command I need to run to get the the diskless MDs to install? I'm getting the following error
QuoteUnable to locate configuration file
Boot failed: press a key to retry, or wait for reset...

Users / Boxee, kinda a fun little addon for just media
February 10, 2011, 09:13:25 PM
Hey all,
I just wanted to share with everyone a neat little media setup that I was using along side LMCE. I am sure some of you have heard of it.
My wife didn't like all the extra bells and whistles in the LMCE orbiter so I set up a boxee box downstairs and mapped it to the core and had it scan my media. It imported all my IDE Tags and went out and found some that I didn't have before. It was pretty neat.
Worked pretty good for just media.

anyway... carry on..

Users / Strange MD Issue
December 21, 2010, 09:19:17 PM
Hello all,
I have a strange issue with my living room MD.
Basically when I let the MD sit and it goes idle and then I try to use the MD there is a few min delay for it to recognize that I have pressed buttons on the remote. It looks as if the skin has to reload. Once it loads again everything works fine until I let it sit again. This happens on UI 1 or UI 2. I have replaced the MD and there is still no change. My other MD's do not have this problem and I did not have this problem in LMCE 7.10. The only thing that I can think of that might cause this issue is maybe the physical distance from my switch to my MD.

My switch is upstairs in my closet and the MD is downstairs. That MD happens to be the one that is farthest away from the switch. Could it be that I am just dropping packets or there is a delay due to distance?

Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

Users / Using the core as a SOCKS proxy server
August 17, 2010, 08:42:23 PM
Back in 7.10 I used to use my core as a proxy server using a SOCKS5 connection with putty and foxyproxy for firefox. I didn't have to configure anything on the server it's self to do this other then having an open port. Since upgrading to 8.10 I have not been able to get this to work. My Putty is set up exactly the way it was before.
I can log in to the server using Putty but when I try to enable my foxy proxy my connection just times out when trying to brows web pages.
Does anyone know if there are any extra steps to get this working. I am just not knowledgeable enough at this point to figure it out on my own.
Does anyone else use their core in 8.10 as a proxy?

Users / LMCE and Blocking web sites...
June 27, 2010, 04:01:15 AM
There comes a time in every Dads life when he has to block inappropriate content from the internet because his son can't be trusted with the responsibility of being on the web sites he is supposed to.

Are there any ways to block specific web sites using LMCE's admin site?

Users / Is there a windows orbiter for LMCE 8.10?
June 25, 2010, 10:06:04 PM
After recently updating to 8.10 I tried to click on the Windows orbiter for install and noticed that it downloads a file to my system that contains 0k. When I try to run this file I get an error message to contact the vendor because this may not be a valid install file. Is the windows orbiter located on a separate download for LMCE 8.10?

I just upgraded from 7.10 to 8.10 recently. I have used 7.10 for about 2 years and had it configured so that I can access my admin page and web orbiter remotely. I have recently tried setting this up in 8.10 and I cannot seem to get it to work.
I went to the security screen and enabled outside connections. I set the port I want to connect on and then I also set up the port forward in the network screen's firewall settings. Just like I used to have to do in 7.10. Everything looks pretty much the same as I remember it. I have done this a few different times since over the last few years I have had to reinstall 7.10 more then once.
Is there a step in 8.10 that I am missing. I have checked the Wiki and i don't see anything different.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am sure this is a known issue but I didn't see anything about this right off hand. I finally upgraded to 8.10... Got one of my MD's going and went to play a .dvd file that was ripped from 7.10 and it will not play because the dvdcss library is not installed. There is not software listed in the software area of the AV wizard so I am at a loss as to how to download the required software. Any Ideas?

Hey,... been a while...
Was working in my yard yesterday and my wife and I found an intimidating threat carved in to the cement wall that addressed my wife by name.
I can think of a few unstable people from our past that might will us some harm so I was somewhat creeped out.

So, I think I am going to invest in an affordable IP Camera (or any other camera that would work) and some zwave sensors. I would prefer one that has a night setting.

I do have a standard home security system and have not been using LMCE for our security but I figure the extra protection couldn't hurt.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently copied some music files from one drive to the other. Seems the files were added back but the old ones are still listed in the database as well. Is there an easy way to reset the database to make sure that the files referenced actually exist?

I have some high def video files that I have been trying to play on one of my MD's. These are mostly .mkv files that are set to 720p or higher. The files will play but the playback is very jittery. Like I am dropping frames.
I have not tried playing them on my core directly because my core is in my closet and I have not really had a chance to go in there and mess around much lately.

My MD has a total of 512k of ram. I am thinking it might be a lack of memory issue on the MD to be able to stream such large video files.

Is there any known issue with this or a minimum memory requirement for large video files?

Users / MD Question
November 14, 2009, 03:03:12 PM
Ok.. I know its been asked over and over again.. but I am always confused because it seems that hardware is always changing and sometimes the wiki (though is very helpful) is not always clear or easy to search.

I am looking to get a small form MD for christmass. I would like to find one that is supported out of the box with either 7.10 or 8.10 (haven't upgraded yet but eventually will).
I would like it to have digital surround sound support built in as well as HDMI.
What is out there and in use right now that is known working out of the box?

Users / LMCE and NOMACHINE
November 12, 2009, 02:52:20 PM
I was looking for a way to do a remote desktop connection to my core and I found this and was wondering if anyone had any experience with using this on thier core. It looked pretty straight forward and neat. My only concern is that everything is working right now and I would hate to break it.
Is there a better way to Remote in to the KDE desktop that I am not aware of? I am still running 7.10.

Users / Need a good low profile Sound card
September 20, 2009, 07:53:57 PM
Does anyone know of a good low profile sound card that has analogue surround? I don't know for sure if LMCE supports this but I was just curious. I wan to connect some surround speakers in my living room and I only have an analogue receiver. I took a look at the wiki but I didn't see much regarding soundcards.
