Installation issues / FreeNas, cant get ip from DHCP
« on: December 03, 2008, 05:10:42 am »
Anyone else have this issue? I cant seem to get my new freenas box I put together to talk to the core DHCP server. I have yet to try connecting it directly to a different router, which I dont think I should have to.

I have the free nas connected to a hub/switch which is connected to the core. I downloaded the newest version AMD64, and it installed onto a USB drive without a problem. I also tried running it directly off the CD. still nada.

Any ideas?

A nice thing to add would be to have Via drivers, openchrome/unichrome, incorporated to a standard LinuxMCE distro, so slow n00bs, such as myself, wont try to throw their compy into the wall when they can figure out how to get the drivers installed. Took me a week but I got it, kinda.

otherwise, keep up the good work! I just wish I could contribute somehow.

Users / ATT Callvantage with LinuxMCE
« on: March 28, 2008, 06:17:08 am »
Has anyone had any luck trying to get the ATT Callvantage VOIP to work with the LinuxMCE Asterisk?
For one thing, I am having a bear of a time finding anyone else trying this with LinuxMCE, and a hard time finding out how to connect just a regular pots line to linuxmce. The Wiki never really talks about setting up a POTs line with the system. Just talks about those other VOIP services listed.

edit: well apparently I missed this link
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2267.0
That link is a start to figuring out how to get an analogue line working.
If I cant figure this callvantage out, I may have to keep researching this.

Users / Core Server keeps freezing
« on: February 27, 2008, 04:59:57 am »
Does anyone else encounter this problem? Every so often my core server decides to freeze on me, and I have to go to the basement to reset it. The keyboard lights flash on the core, and the system is unresponsive, and the monitor is typically off (as if it is not receiving a signal). Once I do a hard reboot, it's all fine and dandy again. I never had this issue in 7.04.
Anyone else? I wonder if it is my hardware... I know people will ask me to post what I have, so I will dig that up and append. As for now I am just wondering if this is just happening to me.

Installation issues / 0710b3 AMD64: Screen blanks out
« on: January 19, 2008, 11:59:33 pm »
I was running LinuxMCE 0704 without any problems until recently somehow I corrupted my root directory. Anyway I digress:
I am running
Amd64 4200+
Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Foxconn C51XEM2AA Motherboard
MSI NX8500GT-TD256E GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16

I put the dvd-install in and select the "install 0710b3 AMD64"
then the screen (a 17" crt monitor) goes blank as if it isnt receiving a signal and stays that way. The DVD drive still reads for about a min, and then that is it.  Anyone else have this problem? I let it sit, so I will go back and check on it in a second to see if anything has changed.  I put in a 0704 DVDinstall disc in to see what happens, and no problems with the screen blanking on me.

I will update with anything new. Any insight would be appreciated.

I am thinking maybe its the video card, but I dunno:(

Users / unable to connect to Admin
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:33:31 pm »
Has anyone else had this problem? I have been having issues connecting to the Admin either directly on my hybrid, or on any computer connected to the network. Ever since I did a hard reboot, I get a prompt stating that asterisk didnt load, and then I am unable to load into kunbutu, or log onto the admin.  Any ideas before I do a reinstall?
Thanks in advance, everyone on this site has been so helpful thus far with any questions I have posted, and I greatly appreciate it.  Thanks,
Alex

Users / Attaching USB harddrive to CORE - see it on the network?
« on: December 06, 2007, 11:11:49 pm »
I hope someone here can help me out, since I am having a bear of a time finding it through the WIKI and forum.  I have External USB Hard Drive enclosure that I have been using to store all my DIVX movies mp3s etc (NTFS) and I figured I could connect it to my CORE and be able to retreive the files on any computer via the network.  Problem is I cant seem to find the drives anywhere. Unless I am booted in Ubuntu using my main desktop in my office (cant see it in XP).  Is there somethign specific I am supposed to do?

Any thoughts would be great.  Also has anyone found it a little difficult/complicated to view movies/files etc through the LinuxMCE gui on attached storage devices?

Thanks,
Alex

Installation issues / Media Directors wont install
« on: September 08, 2007, 06:28:06 am »
Hello all, first time linux user here,
after 2 weeks of fiddling with installing, reinstalling, connecting, unconnecting, reconnecting... i still can not get any diskless media directors installed. I dont think it is my router/core having conflicts.
I have my
Cable Modem connected to a --> wireless router which is then connected to my --> Core/Hybrid on the "external network card" and then I have my "internal network card" connected to a ethernet switch which i have connected another comp, which is supposed to be the MD.

I've also disconnected the wireless router to see if that was the problem, and I dont think it is.  Whenever I connect a comp to the internal network and do a "network boot" (by switching my boot profile in my bios), my CORE does not automatically recognize anything. I would have thought that when the computer tries to access the DHCP server it would recognize something, but nada. I am thinking maybe it's the network booting not network booting, but I've tried it on my intended media director, I tried it on 2 different laptops (more current) that have network boot options.  Now I am spend. Not sure what else to do at the moment, so if anyone has any suggestions, please throw it my way.

Gratias Ago,
Alex
