Installation issues / Compatible Mother Boards
« on: August 06, 2008, 03:37:43 pm »
I'm requesting help on finding a mobo that works well with 0710.  The motherboard in my Core Media Director died.  The list of motherboards in the wiki are somewhat archaic.  I have six motherboards in Media Directors, but none seem to work as a Core Media Director under 0710.  I would prefer a model and brand of motherboard that a member is actually using as a core media director under 0710.  I've learned through experience that a lot of boards that should work don't.

Installation issues / Beta 4 and diskless MD
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:32:05 pm »
I had a core/md and two diskless MD's running and then upgraded to Beta4.  Since then I have reinstalled the diskless MD the following two problems.  First, I had to reinstall the diskless MD's and each required several tries but finally succeeded. Secondly, when I shut down the diskless MD's and tried to restart them each will time out.  I have deleted them several times reinstalled with some failures and retries and finally got them to install again.  After turning them off, once again they will time out.

Installation issues / K9NGM3 Media Director
« on: March 09, 2008, 04:18:45 am »
I 've been trying to use a K9NGM3 as a diskless Media Director using the HDMI output connected to a Sharp LC 37D62U LCD.  During setup, the picture is set off to one side and bottom in such a way setup cannot be completed.  Adding an regular lcd monitor allows me to go through setup, but I cannot move the picture on the sharp to the middle of the lcd tv screen.  Any suggestions?

Users / network boot Asus M2NPV-VM
« on: March 03, 2008, 05:31:49 am »
I switched from a hybrid core to a dedicated core.  I was changing the ASUS into a diskless media director, but can't seem to get it to network boot.  I am already booting a couple of diskless media directors on the network so I know the core is assigning ip addresses..  I've checked all of the network cables using a cable tester.  Everything checks out as okay.  I took for granted it had something to do with bios settings, but I can't find a combination that will allow the network boot.

Installation issues / Installing a core
« on: February 02, 2008, 10:55:35 pm »
After dealing with a hybrid for a while, I've decided that a dedicated core would be better for me.  My problem is I can't seem to install just the core.  Is there another download needed to install just the core?

Installation issues / Multiple video out feeds.
« on: January 16, 2008, 04:54:44 am »
Is it possible to have multiple video out feeds from a single media director?  I have a director connected to a lcd tv, but would also like to have the same view on a computer monitor.

Installation issues / windows shares
« on: January 16, 2008, 04:49:09 am »
I've been up and down with linuxmce for a while from saying I'll never start it again to building 5 media directors.  Things are working well except for one thing.  I still have to deal with windows for several reasons.  One has a raid with two terabytes of storage and a bunch of media files.  I've renamed everything to be d:\video\*.* or d:\photos\*.* or whatever in order to keep the path short.  Everythiing is shared.  The corehybrid finds the shares.  But finds only the files in the shared document folder on c drive and none off of the raid.  I know its something simple it always is, but I can't find it.

Installation issues / Networked Media Files
« on: November 17, 2007, 09:14:56 pm »
With a lot of help from the forums, I have a core hybrid running and acting as my dhcp server.  The mce has found all of the stored media sources on the network and as requested login information.  After providing that information, I went to to videos and there is nothing there.  What am I missing?

Users / Networking
« on: November 13, 2007, 04:00:43 am »
I use a linksys router WRT54G as an internet gateway.  It is connected to one network port of the LinuxMCE.  The other network port is connected to a wired router.  DHCP is disabled on the WRT54G.  All computers can see each other.  Only the linuxmce can use the internet.  All computers have a ip address.  The linuxmce computer gives me the following information.

router 127.0.0.1
internal 192.168.80.1 eth1
external 169.254.7.213 dhcp eth0

Users / The state of my LinuxMCE
« on: November 04, 2007, 09:14:08 pm »
This is the third weekend in a row I worked on this LinuxMCE computer.  $300 in new mobo, processor and memory (my old ones where not blessed as any that would work) and I have given up.  This was my second shot (I've already spent a couple of weeks on an old computer).  I've put LinuxMCE away having decided that I can't make it work with what I know.  I never could get the other computers in my network to accept an ip address from the the mce.  Never could get it to find hundreds of movies on other computers on the network.  I wound up with two networks one that looked like it was coming from the MCE  and another that wouldn't accept the ip addresses from the MCE.  I've always been into AV and the whole idea of getting all the equipment in one rack being acessed by thin clients any where in the house is still a dream.  Maybe it's time for more instructional videos or a single inclusive recipe for building one that works.

Installation issues / Can't see media files
« on: October 31, 2007, 04:08:41 am »
I have hundred's of movies saved as WMF at about 1.5 gig per recorded hour.  LinuxMCE found the raid that the files are on, but doesn't show the files.  Same with the mp3 ripped from cd's.  The raid is shared under Windows.  I use a router to assign ip addressesand serves at the internet gateway, but I show "dceerouter' on the "DHCP Active IP Table".  The mce seems to be connected to the network since it is showing photos in the background.

Installation issues / Dish Network 322

I want to record from both tuners in a Dish Network 322.  One uses a IR remote (no problem) but the other uses a UHF remote.  Any suggestions?

Installation issues / Hauppage PVR USB2
« on: October 25, 2007, 06:03:18 am »
I am trying to use a Hauppage PVR USB2 as a capture device.  MCELinux does not find the device.  Upon further investigation, I realized that the connected light on the Hauppage would light temporarily and then go off during startup of  MCELinux.  I have been using the same Hauppage unit with BeyondTV under WinXP, and it has worked flawlessly and the connected light stays on when attached to the BeyondTV computer.  Any thoughts?  I use the Asus mobo and processor combination that is recommended in LinuxMCE documentation with two gigs of ram and a 300 gig sata drive..

Installation issues / I need a little more help.
« on: August 10, 2007, 01:53:26 pm »
I made a donation and downloaded the whole set.  But I have a few stupid questions to ask.  First of all,  the dvd came in a part 1 & part 2 and the download page referred to joining the files by typing "type *.iso_part0 > ubuntu-ultimate-gamers_or_LinuxMCE_0704_Quick_Install_DVD.iso".  Do I open a command window to do this or what and when?  Secondly I have a copy of the MD5SUMS, but how do I use them to check the integrity of the downloads?  Please pardon my ignorance.
